First: fun! Then: Guitar and gear reviews. Not a shredder. 🤣🤘🎸
Unbiased guitar and guitar gear reviews. I've spent well over $15k buying gear to review and to set up this channel.
Hey, I’m Karol. Pronounced like Carl, not Carol. You also know me as Joe Satriani's cousin's uncle's neighbor's brother. I’ve been playing guitar since the mid-90s and, although I was in a band back in the days, I’ve mostly been a “bedroom player.” I grew up playing Nirvana and metal (Pantera, Metallica, Black Sabbath, etc.), but have expanded my horizons drastically as an adult and now listen to and play almost anything (yes, even country!).
If you like to play guitar for fun without taking things too seriously then Art of Shred is made for you.
About the name:
1) It comes from the Pantera song The Art of Shredding. 2) I can’t shred like Dime. Or at all. ;)

As an adult beginner, I was looking for something solid and versatile to learn on which wasn't going to break the bank. My local guitar shop had this same model in a very sexy cherry red with a $189 price tag (which includes a full setup and new strings.) I'm picking it up in 2 days. This video helped solidify my decision. Thank you!
I just got a 200 dollar Pacifica or around that price maybe a little more but it has a more richer sound to Me than other guitars I came from. I think I may buy a Professional one later on.
Yup. It's my first guitar. Thrown around, dropped, moved across the country multiple times, spent 10 years tuned to B, etc, etc. It has been through some things, but still plays and sounds great.
. I have almost everyone of these....Monoprice indio guitars are super guitars for the price especially. They go on sale periodically for well under $100. Last year they had a blowout and the boardwalk was under $100.
@@ArtOfShredYT I have a LOT of budget guitars. Indios are among the lowest cost, but not bottom of the barrel stuff like gLarry, or some of the earlier imports like Cresent/Mahar.
@@popsfereal Haha, I have a Glarry review on this channel. One of the first videos I did. It was not a good budget guitar, especially in comparison to many of the others. But I do want to give them another chance at some point
@@ArtOfShredYT i have several but I knew what I was getting myself into after the first one. I have one of their semi-hollows (335 type) that they sold for a very short time for $99, and it's a decent guitar now after several hours of work. I have a thin line telecaster with the conventional pickup configuration that's actually not bad, bought the others I have are pretty much bottom feeders that required a lot of work to bring them up to bait fish level.
Taylor the most overrated guitar in the world. If you're not willing to absolutely baby it, it's going to start having lots of major problems that aren't your normal fixes.
@@ArtOfShredYT it's just that I worked in a music store for six years and Taylors needed repairs hands down 5 to 1 over any Gibson, Martin etc ..etc ... Yes people love them but they do need extra TLC. I think the reason they sound so good is because of how delicate they are, if that makes sense.
I recently bought a Gretsch Jim Dandy parlor guitar which is $279 or something like that and I can’t believe how fun it is. I play it more than the Gibson I had that I payed around $1200 for. It’s just a fun little guitar and with some extra light strings it’s super comfortable to play, and sounds great. Looks cool too.
@@ArtOfShredYT I’ve played em all over the years. Budget instruments ideal for beginners but there’s a reason they’re cheap and it’s mainly slave labour. Just the nature of the industry.
That's difficult to answer. If you have money to spend for a better guitar then spend it on a better guitar like a Squier Classic Vibe Stratocaster. But for $120 this is a good guitar.
Absolutely love these guutars. Inhad a blue squier back in 2005. Bought and sold lots of guitars over the years. Happy to say last week i finally bought a 2004 graffiti yellow fender deluxe cyclone, this is one guitar I'll definitely never sell. I've got in booked in to have a full professional setup next week.
These are decent guitars, but you can find used squires for cheap also. I have 6 squire strats that I have bought over the years from $ 40 to $ 180 for a Classic Vibe. Most of them are barely used and the frets have very little wear .I look for older squires that are full thickness so I can upgrade the tremolo block if I want. I set up and mod all my guitars myself and squires are a good guitar to learn how to do setups and mods on and most of them need a good set up. I did pick up one recently from my local Replay guitar store in Tampa for $75 that was set up perfectly. It may be hard to believe but some of my squires with cheap pickups and electronics sound better than some real strats I have owned. Also they do all sound a slightly different from each other.
I just bought one. first it does NOT come with 3 months of Fender PLAY... it only has a 30 day TRIAL. now as for the guitar... it is a CHEAP copy,, NOT a real Fender. it's good but it has FLAWS. you get what you pay for.
@ArtOfShredYT Hastings used to sell Squire guitars that were made by Fender for about $110,, but that was years ago. I wasn't expecting top notch equipment, but when they lable it 'FENDER', you have to at some level expect a fender product. It's NOT a bad guitar by any means.. I truly like it. But it is NOT a fender. A d since I dint know how to play, it works for me. I have several cheap guitars that will not stay in tune.. this one stays almost perfectly in tune. I said almost.
@@jojodood In that case I would probably go with the Debut and if you love playing guitar keep playing that but save up for a bigger step up in quality like a Squier Classic Vibe if you want to stick to Fenders. These Debuts are surprisingly good for starting out. If you can find a Sonic new for $150 then maybe I'd recommend the Sonic but the best it's usually on sale for is around $180. I will say, depending on your location you can find Squier Affinity Strats for around $100 and after a setup those are great beginner's guitars. Here's the Affinity I bought used for $80: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EKUxy_QnANs.html
@@ArtOfShredYT yeah the reason i was considering the Sonic is bc i found one on sale for $160, but it is probably a safer bet to go with the cheaper option while i'm starting out. will probably end up getting the Debut kit that comes with a frontman amp then, i appreciate your advice 🙏
Use purple loctite. Does same function as blue but is easier to undo. I’ve used it in precision air rifles where there is lots of pressure and vibration. Blue I use automotively where I can get a 6” wrench or a power tool to loosen a fastener.
Hi Art O’Shred! I enjoy your videos. Comprehensive, unbiased, dry humah, and you know how to play guitar. The only thing missing is dancing girls. Please refer to “ Hello Goodbye” video. 🎼☮️❤️
Actually, Nirvana used chorus and flanger more than you might think. Nevermind chorus: 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit (Small Clone: verse, pre-chorus, solo) 2. In Bloom (Small Clone: verse, solo) 3. Come As You Are (Small Clone: all) 5. Lithium (Polychorus: verse) 7. Territorial ****ings (Small Clone: all) In Utero flanger (Polychorus “filter matrix mode” on all distortion; “flanger mode” on all verses): 2. Scentless Apprentice (Polychorus / double track: all) 3. Heart-Shaped Box (Polychorus: solo) 10. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter (Polychorus / Echoflanger: all)
The only thing I don’t like about my Morgan is it is not entirely balanced in tone. However, this is the best setup I have ever seen on a factory guitar. Typically orangewoods are overbuilt and have too thick of a top.
