Susu kerbau (Buffalo Milk) like cheese, BPK ( Babi Panggang Karo), Ayam Pinadar (Chicken cooked with blood), Ikan Mas Arsik (Tasty fish from danau toba), Saksang (Pig cooked with blood, spice, and some Sichuan pepper), etc, etc. You should try have a nice 1 night sleep around danau toba/ samosir island

The street food area that your family was at (Wonton noodle place) is called selat panjang (translation: long strait). It’s a well known street food place in Medan. Also medan has a lot of vegetarian food options as there a lot of Buddhists who are vegetarians and their vegetarian foods are bomb and some taste exactly like meat. You should try some! Originally lontong sayur does not come with rendang but today lots of people try to add more variety to lontong sayur which is awesome. Rendang itself is served with rice. It's originally from West Sumatra (Padang), you can find rendang at all Padang Restaurants. I went to Medan a year ago. You should go to Toba lake and Samosir Island. Lontong sayur medan dari dulu memang banyak campurannya. Seperti sayur untuk kuahnya, mie, sambal dan sayur tauco. Kalo bumbu pecal itu optional. Nah, kalo di tambah rendang, saya belum pernah memakannya di Sumut ini.

Beside Danau Toba, you can also go to Bukit Lawang to see the Orang Utan and very clean river. It's only around 2 hours from Medan. Or you can also take your family to Brastagi (2.5 hours from Medan). At Brastagi, you can find so many fresh fruits and you can enjoy hot mountain water at Debuk-debuk. But if you are still in Medan and want to take a short trip to Asam Kumbang Crocodile Farm, it's still in Medan and took only minutes
Lontong made of regular rice while lupis made of sticky rice. From the ingredients you mentioned in your dish, while it's good, it's not famous lontong from medan. The one that originally from medan has some veggies in it, also there is something called tauco, and anchovies. Also it's not potato chips. Usually it's cassava.

Lontong medan is most popular there, maybe next time you try durian there, because durian most popular too, or mie soup. And i hope you can visit Berastagi or Kabanjahe you can see Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung, and the eruption area in Sinabung too. Or dont forget to visit Binjai too is 1 hour from Medan and try the food and the natural views there 😊
