For durian, I prefer the yellow/orangy color & bitter in taste. Fyi, the bitter the better because durian is a nutritious fruit. Wow! your kids love durian - amazing! In Singapore, the stall keeper tell you to put on disposal gloves to eat durian.
You can wash your hands before and afterwards, they have handwashing facilities. Eating durian with gloves you can't have that licking your fingers experience, that's the thrill!!

I would describe durian as either sweet or alcoholy.. not the easiest fruit to eat if you didn’t grow up eating it 😃 glad you guys tried. Btw.. the green fruit in the fridge is guava (Jambu).

The first time I ate durian was in 1995 when I was 3 years old, my dad came home from work he brought lots of durians, everyone in the house loved it except me, I vomited immediately after the first bite, and that was also the last time I ate it. Until now I can't even be around people who are eating durian, it can make me very nauseous and dizzy, feels very uncomfortable. Whether it's some kind of disorder or something, durian is the thing that confuses me 😂
Glad you made it to Ucok. When I was there it was still basically a warung, with a bunch of tables set up under tents and a giant pile of durians in the middle. They have -- quite deservedly -- come a long way. For a durian fan, no better place in the world. Sumatran durians put those of most other places to absolute shame. Compliments also on your very well cultured children.
Next time when u are eating durian again, i highly suggest you to try for the bitter type (not the sweet one).. It will be a whole new experience for u again for sure.. i like bitter durian much better than the sweet

Kudos on raising such good, well behaved kids! Durian is not for the faint of heart; the smell and texture is unique. Granite ate it with gusto while Cedar tried, which she politely declined afterwards. Forest slept the whole time, unfazed by the commotion and strong smell! Love durian in any form or kind but the fresh one is my favorite. It’s sweet, custard texture combining that smell is absolutely divine! Good job on polishing off two.

To pronounce Ucok correctly: split it in 2 syllables U - cok. Pronounce *U* like in "do, who" and *cok* like in "choc" of chocolate. If you like es cendol, then you should try next time Es Cendol Durian (cendol mixed with durian) and ask they put extra durian in it. That's heaven. 🙂
Malaysian durian trees are mostly clones, they grow very fast. It's GMO. Indonesians keep them grow in natural level, really depending on the rich soil, temperature and rain

yea man, Us as indonesian also not eat durian too often. Durian its like vacation fruit for us, just eat it once in a while. and also its like seasonal fruit in all region, except sumatra ( they def have infinity stocks) cause they known as the best durian in the country and they have the best soil quality. In Asia, we like strong tasting foods and chillis to go w/ it. So when it comes to fruits, Durian is the king in both taste and smell. One way to ease into it is to start w/ fruits such as Jackfruit and Cempedak.

keep it in mind that.. in the eastern part of the world, when it's "C" word, it's pronunced like how you pronunce C in the "cherry" word. it's "ce". not "ke". so that beginning, it's not "ukok". it's "ucok". or maybe in the english spelling, it's "uchoke"
