As a chemist AND metallurgist, I can tell you with 100% certainty, that bar needed a much higher melt temperature, the mold and crucible were very dirty, and the pieces that went into it needed cleaning with nitric acid. I am surprised it was even 52% purity. It is SO much easier to chemically clean those pieces when they are small.
Facts, it seems they don't melt like this very often. I'm sure he's aware of this, considering he did put a printed off comment into the crucible XD. They clearly weren't concerned with how pure it was. Yeh there's a LOT of slag in that crucible man damnn.
As a 20 year vet of a cast iron foundry I found the video interesting because of the similar process. Thank you for posting. It was very informative and overall a great video.

I work in the industry and what still astounds me every time is how quickly molten gold goes from 1064°C when dipped in water to cold enough that you can pick it up in your bare hands. I've never timed it but I guess ..... maybe 90 seconds.

Russia ramping things up i bought as much gold as i could get my hands on and overnight as expected Gold prices jumped up and i made a huge profit buying low and selling high and its only going to keep growing. Gold is back in action i have even heard mines that have been closed for decades have now been reopened due to a big profit margin projections.

But question- is there any affect to the diamonds? We all know that there is something called “ heated process” with diamonds,, temperature here is higher than 1400*C so I assume that are some changes on diamond structure
I had a family heirloom ring- ca 1869, 2 carat in platinum. It was in a house that burned to the ground approx 1915. This was before fire-retardants existed, and most homes were filled with hardwoods (structures/furnishings) and burned extremely hot. This ring had to be re-cast from sketches, I don't think the platinum survived, but the diamonds (5 European cut, 2c's) DID. Once the ashes had cooled my husband's great great great grandfather took the employees, who worked for him, to the site. The men sifted through the ashes and found the diamonds. They were completely unharmed by the fire.
I've had steam explosions happen when casting gold, it's not fun at all. The hot molten gold flies everywhere and you'd be lucky to get even a little bit in the mold.

Custom jobs are a PITA, I used to do custom leather work and I always got a 50% deposit. You cannot easily reuse leather, you're fortunate the gold and gems can be reused.

Labor is cheap. The stones are always garbage unless paying crazy markup for certified stones. Your margins are awesome. $3k in materials. $2k in labor. $15k for the piece.
