@mdmcd6273 I'm sure. No doubt, but I'd rather wear something I'm not worried about. I could buy a new ae1200 every week for the rest of my life for what that Rolex costs.
@maxlvledc hahaa it's a good thing Rolex isn't in the business of asking for anyone to buy their products or twisting arms. The opposite could be argued. Also.... what's happening in 5 years? Why die so soon?
@banana_necessary to be fair anything relying on this delta in accuracy would have the human element removed completely. And not be relying on a wristwatch. +2/-2 seconds over a day. 24 hours. No one wearing a mechanical watch has ever been left behind or move forward in time.
@@mdmcd6273 2 timezones, a world timer allows you to easily swap the timezones and tell which one it is. And for the price of the rolex it is one of the worst watches to get if you value finishing and craftsmanship
If you can afford the expensive gear then you have no excuse not to have the cheap one as a city backup. A friend who worked in field operations always used gel pens for his work for their reliability but when the moment came to get the service order signed from the customer he would hand them a mont blanc pen. This was an amazing impression because if you are dropping a couple grand on a service that signature is worth that much.
As a traveler it‘s „anything but Rolex“ for me. Besides the risk of getting robbed there is the „flex culture“, these watches are often worn by people to show off their success, at least financially. I don‘t want that to the first impression people get.
Depends where you travel. I travel every week on business and am happy to stick to the luxury end as I don't usually venture anywhere too public. I travel at least twice a year for pleasure and then I tone it down.
I consider a $4 Zebra compact pen expensive, now imagine my reaction when I saw the $400 Sailor pen... people are crazy. This video is really interesting though, thank you for the sacrifice.
I think it can heavily depend on a variety of factors, given that my education background was in engineering after seeing it in your videos I fell in love with and have purchased the Tactile Turn Bolt Action pen. On the other hand I could never see myself going with a luxury lighter, I don't smoke and if I were to have a pocket lighter I'm more likely just going to take a bic lying around home.
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
Good video. Could have gone 100 different ways. Lots of watch upgrades that aren’t a Rolex. If put one of the new citizen or Seiko gmts as an option. But a new apple watch would probably be the “luxury “ version of a quartz watch
Lowkey hoping for Apple watch as "luxury" Mechanicals may be luxury but man they're a deep rabbithole full of scary high tech analog stuff that wouldn't be safe to EDC.
Casio world timer is a great watch but buttons are large and easy to inadvertently press. Also, you can buy great aftermarket case and bracelets in stainless with sapphire glass which takes it to a whole new level
casio either has easy to press buttons (your watch) or difficult to press buttons (eg the 5610). Im not aware of any middle ground - the search continues.
A lot of these are great, and that Casio is god tier. When I travel I typically wear my Omega Speedmaster Pro. It has no date so I just pull the crown out and set it to local time and use the chronograph to monitor a 2nd time zone if for some reason I need to. The Rolex will garner quite a bit of (sometimes) unwanted attention.
Next time add a tiny pocket box to carry skittles or any other small candy with, bcz I don't smoke and it was really hard to find a mettal small box to carry
How do you compare a multi tool to a single use tool such as that knife?! One does more than the other at a much lower cost, and a carabiner to a the bellroy key cover... an key smart or orbitkey would be a suitable companion in the budget like. Other than that I liked everything and still choose the budget with the added expensive size of the bellroy, flashlight and knife.
In my case I would eliminate the pen, lighter, flashlight and pocket knife Most basic edc would be: -wallet -keys -phone -watch Additional: -pocket knife or multitool -flashlight -sunglasses when needed. I could put the watch in additional category, but there hasn't been a day since my childhood that I didn't have one on my hand. Keys, phone, wallet, forgotten at home so many times, they could slip all in additional category easily...😂
Amazing video as always! Very funny and interestingwhen you bring us these videos that compares different levels of EDC. Thanks again for your great work and effort! Take care
Imo yes. At least if ur actually using these items and not just flexing ur money. If u can afford it, the items are usually well worth the money and look way better. Especially in terms of quality.
As someone who used to buy exclusively luxury products, I can tell you there is very little difference and most of the time the cheaper version is of better quality.
2:13 I would suggest Orbitkey instead of Bellroy in this case 100%, even though I own Bellroy wallet which had been serving me for like 8 years already and had backpack from them as well.
@@mrEtanMW So wrong. Rolex is the equivalent of Mercedes. People who can afford Bugatti and RR will still consider Mercedes as a luxury car. Like Mercedes, Rolex also have very high end models that can cost just as much as the most exclusive brands. Unlike Mercedes tho, their «lower end models » are still more exclusive than Mercedes « lower end models ».
@@faubourglincoln I’m talking about the lower end models like the oyster perpetual. but of course to the layman paying 6k for a watch is still quite a lot
Bellroy wallet is more expensive and worse than slimfold if we really want to optimise our wallets. The slimfold is lower profile and faster access to whatever you want from the wallet.
HOW DID HE GRAB A ZIPPO FOR A CHEAP LIGHTER WHEN YOU CAN GET A BIC FOR LIKE $2, AND $90 ISN'T MUCH FOR A TORCH, I'VE SEEN SOME FOR OVER $200 WITH MORE FEATURES
Expected everything to cost more on the expensive side rather than it all really being focuses on the watch. If we're going from cheap casio EDC to expensive watch EDC, you should have something in casio's oceanus line there.
There's a wide variety of uses for these certain gadgets depending on who's using them. I personally believe in the quality of the product, and I think it's a myth that only luxury products can have good quality. Instead, we can choose from a range of options that offer a good range of durability.
I would comment that key covers are basically essential on a security standpoint because an experienced locksmith can copy your keys just by seeing them (FYI, if those keys shown in this video are keys you actually use, beware), which means covering the bitting provides an additional layer of security without you having to worry about never taking your keys out in public.
@@evrythingis1 Me and you probably don't need to worry about that, yeah. Someone with a channel with a quarter of a million subscribers probably does. Also, lockpicking requires not only knowledge and experience, but you'll look suspicious if you try lockpicking, while having a key means you can use it in any context and nobody will bat an eye at it. Btw, a key blank costs pennies, and a locksmith with experience is able to cut a new key in seconds, so... If you can't see the threat of that, sorry to tell you but you're the bot lmao
Nice comparison, I'm ok with expensive premium items if it makes me smile! I am very hard on my gear so i try to find high value to quality . By the way sick pin storage....tell me more please. Thanks Maurice, From South Texas Matt
Last comment would be that luxury does not have to mean flashy and attention seeking. Some people have commented that for travelers attracts the wrong attention, I think this depends more on if you mean BRAND by luxury or the QUALITY of goods. Yes wearing a Rolex on holiday is a terrible idea unless you are only going to luxury hotels / restaurants etc and can afford to replace it.
I would not consider the note core to be too much of a luxury option. Surefire stiletto woulda been more accurate. The note core could fit into the budget category imo I have one and paid 90$ for it which sounds like a lot but I literally use it every time I walk my dog or work in the garage and a million other things. The quality for price is crazy like I would have paid 2x for it happily given what I got
idk why this was recommended and I wasnt honestly sure with EDC if it was weapon content or not but this was a good video feels a bit random too me but I am down lol also swish army knifes are so handy
The Wallet/cardholder & key holder sure I'd upgrade too, then swap out the ring watch for a gold one. Maybe get the insert for my Made in Niagara Falls ON Zippo while I'm here. Pretty good lists laid out here.
Take out the watch and lighter, other expensive items are actually better quality! Especially the knife and torch, the more expensive version are good value for money if you consider what they can do and how long they can last.
Okay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the kislux book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
Whether luxury is worth it or not, depends on what you want. luxury for stuff you want, but things you need in your edc but don't want to pay a premium, get the budget, so you can save up for the premium you want.
I love the Nitecore T4K you recommended in another video and rocked with it for a while but less than a year, the sockets for the screws broke. I refuse to buy another to replace it as it’s still functional, I just haven’t found a solution to keep it together yet. Most of my Unbound Merino shirts also have holes in them now despite being washed on delicate in the wash and line dried. I’m definitely getting that luxury wallet though.
Best key solution ever is the LV 6 key case. Compact, jingle free, sleeve on the interior holds cards and/or cash. I never leave home without mine. ST DuPont also makes amazing pens. You should look at Schon DSGN pens. I think you'd like Ian's stuff. Sorry man, Rolex is a no. They are a poor customer experience and mad expensive.
Who sets that scale though? To me a $50 hat is too much for a hat, but I can understand the RRP on a Rolex much more. But I agree with you. Quality within means for sure is a smarter way to go.
@@mdmcd6273 A 50 dollar hat is value for money only if the fabric of that hat truly feels worth 50 dollars otherwise it's a waste of money even if it's a Nike Hat.
Um if we are going all black edc why pick the Rolex gmt, there are some pvd and ceramic watches all blacked out, Pandorai Luminor GMT etc, this seemed like a very half hearted research and video.
From someone whose met and knows wallet as well as leather good snobs, Montblanc is a terrible buy. They do not use high quality leather whatsoever and that wallet under a lot of use will fall apart in less than two years. Find a British or American brand with a rich and lengthy history of producing only high quality products
@@MMDAMV You can’t categorize people like that and assume. Luxury and quality things are things you reward yourself for your own personal enjoyment and longevity, specially after you’ve achieved something significant in life. There are people who go to an expensive restaurant to show off and those who want to experience the best made cuisine or nice wine and steak, depending on what you’re into. Usually a man tends to reach that level of being able to afford quality and luxury in later years of their life, and again it’s personal enjoyment. And to prove my point, there is such thing as quiet luxury, for example, no one knows what a Patek 5227 G is, it looks like a Timex, but the personal enjoyment of looking at the finishing, the movement up close, knowing the history, the manufacturing, and the feel of winding the watch is personal, same thing with cars, every one knows what a Ferrari is but not a Pantera, but when you’re shifting gears on the Pantera and feeling the engine that is a personal experience for yourself and not a show off thing. If you catch my drift.
