Bought a TU-8900 that I am gonna build on a rainy day.

Looks like a lot of fun. I was SO tempted, even paid for then canceled an order last year as I realized the company was cranking out new/improved models faster than I could keep up with the numbering system or available options and I wanted better Hashimoto OPT’s. Decided to go with a PtP 300b SET plan (seen elsewhere on YT) with a pair of EML 300b tubes and various 1940’s-era 6SN7/6F8G drivers. Thanks for sharing. How do you like the sound?

I just ordered the TU-8600S version with Lundahl output transformers. : ) I haven't even received it yet and I'm already having dreams where the first time I power it up all the tubes explode and the amp bursts into flames.. I've worked with and built electronics kits for 50 years but this one is going to be intimidating. This is the most expensive kit project I've ever done. I'll be taking my time on this build the last thing I want to do is have it go up in smoke. Thanks for the build video!

Ha ha! I had those dreams too :D. The instructions are very good and I ticked through each component and then I think they had test points with expected voltages which were useful. I honestly had 0 issue. I had just bought a pair of 2k speakers too, which I didn't want to damage so I used 8 ohm power resistors when I did the voltage check. Your comment reminds me of the first tube amp I built where I used a bunch of old components, and a couple of caps that I had salvaged from my parents kitchen hob, that was used for the breaking grid was broken. Nothing blew, just the power tube anodes started to glow.

Rcore low noise, thus latest adoption that most stuck with old steel cores.

Hi I just ordered the 8900 kit. Thank you for sharing this build. What temp do you have the soldering iron set to for this? JH

Hi . Thanks for watching. I don’t remember to be honest. And it was quite a while since I used my soldering iron but I just fired it up and it seem to be set to 680F. I have Hakko 888D soldering station and it served me well.

If you wear those gloves in the begining of your built it would be much better, sweat from fingers is highly corrosive to any metals in circuits..

Nice build! How many hours would you estimate you put into it?
@567anorrman
@567anorrman 3 года назад
6 hours maybe. Most time consuming was probably soldering the resistors. Just took time to find the correct locations for them.

Is it easy for a beginner with not a lot of soldering experience. I’ve heard issues of solder bridges?
@milanstastny6799
@milanstastny6799 3 года назад
@@skularatna8136 Hi Suran, it is not difficult to solder it, if you know the basic rules of soldering. It depends on the tools you use and the type of solder too. My recommendation is to assemble some cheap electronic toys first. I paid a one day course how to solder. It was necessary for me to understand the process and common rules. Then I assembled some toys from China and finally I assembled small headphone amplifier, Elekit tube amplifier and Elekit tube pre-amplifier. It is amazing experience when you assemble it by your self. By the way, Elekit provides for their kits the best instruction manuals I have ever seen. On youtube you can find a lot excellent videos about soldering. Do not be afraid and go ahead. You will find out what my master told me on the soldering lesson - soldering is addictive!

@@milanstastny6799 Milan other than solder station which tools that you used did you find most helpful? which third hand do you recomend could you list which needle nose pliers type of tips helped. I am going to need some basic tools to do the job right. Since you have some experience that I don't have could you make some recommendations. Anything you found extra valuble in gettig it done right the first time. I plan on purchasing the amp camp kit to begin It's been more than 30 years since I did any serious soldering in the Air Force I wish I coild hear it before I buy PS If I can pull this off I will do the SunValley Phono Pre as well Thanks again, Cheers!

how's the headphone output?

@567anorrman 2 года назад
Hi. Realized I haven’t really used headphone output so when you asked I just had to test it out. I think it sounded awesome with my grado headphones at least. If you inspect the circuit diagram you can see headphones output uses the 300b output tubes and the lundahl output transformers.
