This a really cool idea as a concept. Honestly, we should as a community, just make decks that are under 50, send it to a website, and that way we can have new players just go there and shop around for what they want. Is there something already like that?

I've always been fascinated with Portcullis, it's a card that basically says players can't fill the board with creatures, but no one seems to play it. It's a rare from stronghold but it's not on the reserve list. It's never seen a reprint but it's only two bucks. I think adding Monarch and Initiative cards to my Sarulf deck really took it up a notch. Sarulf is good with the "each opponent" edicts just because he's already so effective at wiping tokens and small things out; he also benefits from your opponents sacrificing their creatures. I've been disillusioned with protection spells in commander, and especially with Sarulf I'd rather slam him on turn 3 and risk him being removed while having the resources to slam him again on five mana, than slam him on five mana with a maybe-negate in hand. I run Golgari Charm though. Sarulf gets to play Demonic Lore and I think that's pretty neat.

How did you go about making this budget deck? I absolutely love it and wanted to start making my own budget decks because I love Magic and doing all different kinds of things but I don’t have a bunch of disposable income to spend on it like a bunch of my friends do. I’d like to make more budget decks for us to play together and introduce more people to magic.

As someone who made the mistake of buying the kardur deck when they first began, I think the deck you made is WAY better. If only the community was in charge of making something like a starter deck!

Doesn't portcullis have Anti-Synergy with this deck? You exile opponents creatures as they come in, wipe the portcullis from your battlefield, then they get the creatures back instead of them exiling?

With that line of play yes, but sarulf is a may, so if you just keep smacking face with commander , they have to kill portcullis and if they do sarulf goes back to wiping boards, if they dont , they keep taking commander damage while not being able to drop creature's

Big fan of this deck looks cool and it certainly does have quite a bit of a different build than most precons would have(also mass exile inst a golgari is cool). If you bumped up the budget a bit what kinda cards would you try to put into it?

One Goad dude in the Goad deck is sad. The last Commander pre built i bought was the Ob Nixilis one and that felt pretty cohesive and focused. Obviously it could be better but the deck worked as described. Plunder the Graves was much the same way but gad way more big ticket Commander cards Edit: The Portcullis spice made me laugh. Such a dumb card

I dont really think its the best idea to suggest an archenemy deck to a new player. Probably not going to be fun getting targeted out of their first game because they are playing a repeatable boardwipe as a commander.

I totally see that , but some new players do like that aspect of the game , of being so powerful people target you , plus learning to play around that , I guess that's the point of the video , and future starter deck videos , tapping into a starter deck mentality and budget with more niche strategies that normally sealed product wouldn't approach

Love the idea behind the concept (making your own starter decks), hate the actual list. Most of your stuff Sarulf will permanently remove. I expected a bunch of instants and sorceries that put counters, instead got shown a tutorial on how to shoot myself in the foot. I'm suscribing to see how you self-sabotage in the next video.

"Most your stuff" lets simmer down their partner. 14 creatures 3 enchantments and 3 artifacts is not most my stuff. 41 instants and sorceries m'guy, that would constitute most my stuff.. The threat of Sarulfing is most the time more threatening then actually doing it , so being able to build up a couple big boys , while opponents are to afraid to play anything is great! If they do remove Sarulf BOOM protection. Using instants and sorceries as the main way to buff Sarulf seems worse then just letting Sarulfs own ability do it with sac lands, baubles, aristocrat decks , removal, etc. I don't have a funny personal jab to put at the end of mine, have a good one!

Some new players like that shit , that's kinda the point of these "Lotus Starter Decks" its gonna be starter deck prices but with other "unfun" or "difficult" strategies , or just under supported ones like group hug. There are all types of players and I think more will play if we can show all lines of play at starter deck prices. Just my opinion tho
