As far as the TV show goes, I think the reason it didn't make it was because 'they' sucked all the 'flavor' out of it. If they'd just let you be YOU it would have gone over much better with the audience, exactly like your present 'home grown' production does. I'm sure you've read many times in the comments that 'they' should give you your own show, and yes it's true; but they would have to let you have more 'creative control' of it.... But of course 'they' always think they know better.... In the end you've proved that you're better off doing your own thing...
I actually saw these 2 pilot shows late at night when they aired and I was like holy s*it this is Sonny! Good for him! Was excited for the show but your RU-vid channel is 1000% better with allowing your tire humor to shine through!👍

honest truth Sonny, your regular videos are a million times slicker than what the TV crew did! kudos to your crew! when i watch it, i can see the beginnings of your unique style. i have been following your channel since you were less than 100k subscribers and i am so pleased to watch you and your channel grow in both style and content. through it all, i am glad you still retained the same Sonny style, the same look you give when you put nice food in your mouth, most of all i love the fact that I have never seen you ever criticize a food you eat. thats class dude. keep it up Sonny!
Gotta be honest, its way better when you and your team handle the whole production aspect, and mostly editing. Because its more like you, your unique humor, its more human and most importantly uncencored (well its beep out but you know) and it makes everything a lot me genuine and real.

That show seemed very tofu without sauce (lacking flavor) Your show has so many layers, food, culture, humor, and soul. Glad you didn’t go back in time as TV is so outdated, who has time for that? Entertainment on demand is where its at. Keep up the great work and thank the gods that you didn’t get sidetracked in your journey.

This "Hogma" looks almost like a dish from Rheineland Palatine in German, called Saumagen. Good to see that the Amish didn't forget the good german food.
Most of them still speak German, so I don't think they forgot much. In fact, I'd say the average German has forgotten far more about old Germany than these people have, considering they keep living in a 19th century fashion.
I would’ve definitely watched your show. I grew up watching Andrew Zimmern and Anthony Bourdain 😅 Also the bandana is smart because now we see the bandana and think of you and your channel, plus it wicks up the sweat.
I bet the travel channel would be crying now about missing this guy back then. There’s no way stopping him now. Also, really fortunate they didn’t get him full time. This is such a tone down from his original.

Travel Channel or whoever past on the show, stupid move. The good thing is, you don’t have to make 2000 or $5000 an episode, if even that. You can make the majority of your profits and split them up between your staff. Gives you much more freedom and you don’t have to be under of the thumb of whoever the hell is running the network at the time. Bless you my friend, I truly appreciate watching. If you get up to Ocean City Maryland, I’d love to take you to different incredible restaurants around the area.

There’s this show on history channel named “eating history” and they literally buy and eat old expired foods . If that can be a show ,you should definitely have a show on discovery channel ,forget the travel channel no one watches that lol.

Your show now is way better. They was trying to tone you down & make you into something your not. So I'm glad it didn't get picked up. Bc I would of never got to see your lovely face, I don't have cable & therefore I can sink my teeth into that 10 lbs of crab meat, shrimp, lobster & more meal. All bc I've saved the $$$ by not having cable TV. Woohoo how do I find that Crab house in Florida. But I'll have to wait till the COVID-19 virus ban lifts to travel. No, that show was never going be as entertaining and weighty as BEFRS. If they were scripting your decisions from the jump, they were woefully misguided by not understanding that *you* were the selling point. I mean....otherwise, they could have had _any_ host. Travel and Food Channel are over-saturated with kind of good ideas. (Hah-hah....6:02 - The pig stomach is *literally* hogmaw. I would call the Amish dish "stuffed hogmaw".

I see why these pilots didnt make it, you seem reserved and.. normal. they didnt let you be you... or atleast cut out the parts of you being you. No funny awkward moments like leaning against some drooping leaves while desperately trying to give the professional documentary host look into the camera.. :c

Nancy was the sweetest lady ever! But at around 6:00 I couldn't help but see her thumb bleeding while handling the meat. And you can see a little before that she was looking at it and squeezed it with a paper towel. Then later when they eating she did have a band-aid on it too🤪 Bless her heart, she was probably really nervous being on camera and hoped he didn't notice it!

Something feels off, it seemed like they took away sonny's best assets! They shouldn't have! This simply means that sonny is a better artist and a director than that travel channel!
