After the $200 eBay engine video I had little expectations for this $300 4 stroke outboard motor from eBay.
We take it fishing!
4hp 4 stroke Air Cooled Outboard Boat Motor from eBay Timestamps:
0:01 - The previous $200 eBay outboard Engine I bought
0:37 - Unboxing $300 4 stroke outboard engine from eBay
3:10 - Assembling 4 stroke air cooled outboard engine from eBay
5:40 - Small issue with propeller on the 4 stroke outboard

14:28 - Taking 4 stroke air cooled engine on Jon Boat fishing
18:05 - Catching fish while testing cheap eBay boat motor
25:18 - Final review of 4 stroke Air Cooled Outboard Motor off eBay after 3 weeks
I have a say this engine is awesome!
I can't believe this boat engine is $300 on eBay. This is the cheapest 4 stroke outboard engine online.

Perfect setup for a small Jon fishing boat. Don't have to mix oil and gas plus less pollution to the lake since the exhaust isn't pumping nasties in the water. When storing motor make sure you drain the gas out of tank and run the motor to use up gas in carb, store it dry. This way it will start and run good next time you use it. Wish we had more lakes here, I would have same rig. One thing I would do for a backup is make sure you take some oars with you just in case, LOL. Thanks for the Vids. :)

NO ! You do not have to run an air cooled motor in water. That is just silly thinking. When something says it is "AIR COOLED" that means it has not need for water. The gear housing is oiled to prevent friction not water outside the housing. When did everyone get so unsmart?

The lower unit is water cooled but the engine itself is air cooled. Also, although it doesn't say, you need to remove the propeller and the cap over the drive and fill with 80w gear oil. Otherwise you'll destroy the gears and the engine will go no where after a few uses.

About 5 or so yrs ago I bought one looked the 2 cycle that he first showed it had basically no instructions just said mix fuel 25-1 it didn't show which way to turn throttle for start fast or slow or which way to turn choke . So when I figured out all that I finally got it started . But the recoil cord was hard to pull it would lock up like the motor was stuck . Called seller he said take plug out and squirt straight gas in cylinder. That worked until I had to start it again . Then from pulling the cord broke . Had to fix that . Once motor started it ran and pushed my 12 'boat pretty good upstream on river . I haven't used it lately got tired of pulling cord . Learned not to yank on cord just pull slow and steady with no slack maybe if I ran it more It would free up . It was an early model and is supposed to be 72 cc . If you buy one good luck

How’s it going? Thanks for doing this review on the inexpensive little outboard!! I was actually impressed!! Not bad for the money. Seems like with a little know how and tinkering you could easily make this yourself with a good weed whacker. Definitely seems like a good way to get around a pond or lake and not have to worry about batteries. I’m sure you can go quite some time on little gas. Thanks for sharing this video! I just happened to come across your channel and like it ! I’m a fisherman from upstate NY. I mostly fresh water fish for trout . Big brown and rainbow trout at the Ashokan resavoir, one of NYC water supply resavoirs. It has an upper and lower basin divided by a set of gates that regulates the flow from one basin to the next. Early spring I’ll usually fish the Hudson River for striped bass. In my profile picture I’m holding one I caught two years ago, 42 lbs 441/2 inches long. Their only in the river for about a month and a half, they come up to spawn along with the herring. We catch the live herring using a hookless rubber minnow with a 4oz jig head and swim it in circles to attract mating herring. They will follow it right into your net. Some people cut them up and chunk fish, but then you could catch catfish or eel’s so I use a whole live herring which almost guarantees when your drag starts singing, you have a striper on the other end. It’s a much different experience reeling in a big striper from shore in a tidal river than from a boat in the river or ocean. I’ve gone on many charters for striper and blues and never caught one nearly as big as I have in the river. Your arm is burning by the time you get them in. But nothing compares to tuna fishing!! That felt like having a small vehicle on the other end of your pole and it took 8 hours to get to where we were fishing, you see nothing but water for hours and at 2am we arrived at a spot I. The middle of nowhere. There was 4 or 5 other boats not far away. It was pouring and the boat would disappear into giant swells, out of about 10-15 guys only me one other and the mate’s were fishing. Everyone else was extremely sick and couldn’t stand let alone fish. I was young at the time and paid a lot of money so I was going to fish every minute possible and I did. It was a great trip until I got off the boat. Then it was my turn to be sick, after standing strong, fishing and partying with the mates. Once I got off the boat I felt like I was rocking for 3 days. It was horrible, I’ve been on many different trips since and never had that happen again. Have you guys ever fished up north anywhere? Ever been to NY? Where are you guys fishing and what do you normally fish for? I look forward to seeing what your channels all about!! Thanks again, take care, stay safe and healthy!!

My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ru-vid.comUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

It does clog up, freeze when cold yet still be pumping. Just look at exhaust ports... And yes. Air cooled should not be ran out of the water. Gear case will heat up.

@@meegstomtom Which models? If the motor has an impeller it was not used to cool exhaust. I have worked in outboard motors now for over 15 years. I own motors from the earliest outboards available from British era all the way to a fully electric 200 hp outboard on my bass boat. I have never run into a air cooled motor with an impeller pump that was not used to cool the engine block. I would love to know what brand would waste the time to try to cool exhaust and for what reason they felt the need to cool the exhaust. Water pumping to cool the expelling motor vapor seems pointless. The only reason a motor pumps water is to cool the block and I am sure the model you are speaking of did the same thing. There would be 0 reason to make a motor pump water without it cooling the block.

I bought a little Jon boat 3 years ago and the guy had nearly this exact motor on it. It is the most reliable motor I’ve ever had. Maybe I just got a lucky one but I still use it as a kicker on my walleye boat. The only issue it’s ever had is the pin that connects the propeller gear broke one time.

I've never eaten walleye. They're not in coastal MS area. How would you compare it to largemouth in taste?

I have always heard that the cavitation plate of the lower unit should be in the same plane as the bottom of the boat. For best performance.

Don't worry about the plastic propeller, it'll self-clearance itself. When I was 16 and lived in Brandon, Florida I bought a 14' fiberglass flats boat and it had a 7.5 HP Chrysler long shaft sailboat engine on it that ran decently. I would take it out of the Tampa Shrimp Docks (the old Seabreeze Restaurant), Bullfrog Creek, and the TECO station, and my friends and I would just fish all the time. I got the boat and trailer for $1,500 and it was worth every penny. I would put the ears on it and flush it out after every run. I haven't had a boat since because I live near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and although I would love to have a Jonboat for running around the rivers with my boys and wife, it's easier said than done. If that Chongchee (no racism or ethnic BS intended, it's a play on the brand name of the engine) engine ran decently and was reliable it would be just fine for a small 12' jonboat. Don't expect to go fast, but it'll do just fine for a little river boat with light current.

You only really need to use the choke on a cold startup. Maybe the first start of the day, but if you're starting it again within 30-60 minutes, it should start up easily without the choke.

Dayum! Honestly, I think if my 20ft boat motor left me stranded I could hold this in the water by hand rather than paddle my way to safety. But, the shaft looks too short, even for my small aluminum.

So enjoyed this vid.. especially when y'all got on the snapper..i do have dumb question though ? Is that bolt above the prop used for something or was it placed there for mabye a safety while shipping block and is to be removed? Probably not because it probably has a purpose ..just curious

You don't want to use marine engine oil in an air cooled engine. Air cooled engines run much hotter thus marine oil won't be viscous enough at those higher temps. Better to get normal lawnmower oil.

I have a 1,5 four stroke, same shaft, 2 blade smaller engine and have used it for 2 years now only in seawater. All shiny bits are rusty but it works sweet on my sailing skiff and uses next to no gas! Make sure you use clean gas, it is a pain to clean carbs!

re: your 2 methods of cooling.... I say your engine is air cooled, and the water cooling is for your impeller pump (it may also send water to the block, but may just be for the lower unit.) The rubber impeller blades will melt if not cooled. I love your channel. I watch all your videos.
