Any of you content creators getting these EVOs from Elves actually going to get out on them and tell us what they're like to ride?! Got a hundred build videos but no actual reviews. We need to make decisions here!
Rode mine for about 500km mostly flat and fast terrain now. It is of nice quality, nice looking, easy to build (105Di2/ultegra mix for me). It is not lightweight and feel, It is not faster than other aero bikes but fast and supports a nice aero position if you can hold it. Had some creaking issues but getting better. It is influenced by wind from the side a lot. Would I buy it again - yes. Price is great for the quality and looks. Will I still ride it next season? I think maybe something with a little less surface? Difficult to tell and test if it just looks and feels fast or really is. Guess that is why no real reviews.
Nice work. Leaving the nasty bits to Johnny is brilliant. He knows his bikes. Great pointing out the difference between UK and Continental on the placement of the brake levers.
Elves should consider offering a pre-built option, like Rose & Canyon do. Would surely increase sales for rookies like to me to whom the assembly looks daunting.
Nice vid! Thank goodness we finally have a video and potentially a future review of the Valar wheelset! Had my eye on them for a bit but can never find any reviews or testimonials
Great build, Jourdain! The headset spacer/washer is something I'd need too after getting my bike fit on my Falath Pro last year. Elves did a great job of making it look good both ways, with or without the spacers.
Thankyou for making this content, this is the exact build, exact content, and super detailed video tutorial that I'm searching for thankyou thankyou thankyouuuuu ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah, U've seen varying amount. The top cap take a little space as well on this frame so we took that into consideration. Glad you enjoyed the video! 👍🏽
You really want to keep the space between the top cap and expander to a minimal. The more space you have there, the less surface there is for your stem to grip onto. Obviously you also don't want "negative" space there, otherwise you're not applying preload to your bearings. 1-2mm should be plenty if you measured carefully.
Knows his stuff…..on what basis. The tolerance on that bottom bracket is way out of spec, and he says it’s super smooth! You can see how badly finished it is just by looking at it.
If they didn’t wind tunnel test the bike then it’s not really aero, I would say buy a casd13 with 105 then upgrade the wheel set and it will be a better bike.
In the final stages of my build based solely off your posts. I have the Shimano 105 Shadow mech as well. The hanger I received from Elves was not the same as the hanger you have shown in your video. You said it came with the frame set. The one I have from Elves is clearly shorter. I asked Elves to send me one for the “Shadow Mech” and they sent me the same one I already had with the frame set. Can you provide some guidance on the proper hanger for the rear derailleur? Thanks in advance.
I like the bike building videos, but I would really like actual reviews of these bikes after they're built. How do the ride? Any issues since putting them together? Pros/cons? It's cool to see them being built and a general view while building, but this doesn't really give real world expectations.
Yeah, the long term reviews will be coming of the whole bikes and individual components. I need to put plenty of miles on the bikes before I can give a real world reviews. I'll have some first ride videos coming soon as well 👍🏽
I have been riding my Falath Pro Disc for a week or so since finishing my build. I chose 105 as for my personal situation it was the best cost/performance balance, Fulcrum racing 4 wheelset and Pirelli P Zero's. I already own a Tarmac (2011-12 model with 105) and a Giant TCR 2019 also with 105. Love both the Tarmac and TCR, although really enjoy returning to the Tarmac it just has a special feel. My impression of the Falath so far is that it feels eager to be pushed and fast and has also got that special something that the Tarmac has. After bedding in my breaks I did a 55k loop that I do fairly regularly when I can't fit in a longer ride. While having a headwind for a large chunk which turned into a sidewind for the return leg and meeting some late afternoon traffic to slow me a little, I still did the loop about 2kph faster than usual. Hope my first impressions help.
I've built up my MTB from frames for the last 10 years. Not sure I could be arsed with the integrated bar/stem/hidden cables of a road bike though. When I got a new bar recently I purposefully just went for a standard one rather than the integrated stuff.
Hi Jourdain. You made me decide to order a Falath EVO too. Your videos are honest, logic and easy to understand; and funny. Anyway, my height of 176 also made me order exact the same size and color as yours. The build will be different though: high end with SRAM red AXS, light accessories and a DUKE Baccara disc 48 SLS Ultra2 wheelset. Hope to keep the scale under 7.2 kilos😊. Looking forward to your 2nd part of your build. Keep up the good work!
@@JourdainColeman5"8 ? 52cm is 9cm stem/handlebars cockpit. I like a nice high 😌 seattube showing, not a 1970's look. So you reckon a 52 cm 🤙 and not lower? Thanks.
nice, can't wait to see the finshed build! My falth evo frame is on the way right now from china, same colour as yours. I will build mine with 105 di2 and 65mm elite wheels :)
Good build. However I do wonder about the wisdom of applying carbon paste to the compression/expander plug. It really does no good and runs the risk of some dropping on the bearings and causing damage
great build. it is mental that this build is an "affordable" superbike at 3k. I'm hoping for a chinese contender to make a light frame to rival the Aethos.
I know, the prices of bikes seems to be through the roof overall. I could have gone cheaper on some parts of the build to be honest. The only other alternative without spending a fortune is second hand bikes. I'm hoping to do a few second hand buys soon 👍🏽
nice that the video is online faster than my frame was delivered. I am now waiting exactly two months and the frame has not even been shipped. When the frame is there, then I will look at the video again very closely.
I hope to get my frame very soon. I'm starting to get a little disappointed that it's taking so long. "We have.a new factory that is opening in May to relieve the pressure caused by the backlog." The transport will surely take another 1-2 weeks. Then I need certainly a week (something is always missing) to build everything together. Means unfortunately that I have to expect that I can ride the bike only in a few weeks, even if it leaves the new factory today. Annoying, since I no longer have my other road bike. Now I have to go with a TT all the time. Ok, there are worse.
This is a disc only frameset I'm afraid. They have the previous 2022 version in rim - uk.elvesbike.com/products/2022-elves-falath-pro-carbon-road-aero-framesets?VariantsId=10280
I am 5’9 and I have a specialized 54. Do different bikes size differently? Asking because you said yours is a 52. Now I’m like crap is my bike to big!!!
That’s the problem with buying crap online, can’t size the bike properly. So many people go, ohh look at my super light and aero bike build, and it doesn’t even fit. So goodbye to any “gains” they hoped for.
The Eglath is an all-rounder and the falath is more of a race frame. I built this bike for speed so I went with the falath. If I was doing longer endurance rides then the Eglath would likely be a better choice. 👍🏼
Yeah, I need to get my hands on one... The cost is just crazy for them though so I'm hoping some of the Chinese brands release some good versions this year
@@kpsig I had mechanical 105 before, I always had to downshift before the climb, Now I have Ultegra Di2 and i can shift mid climb while putting the power down without it even making a noise.
which wheelset did you opt for this build? i'm thinking to buy the Orome 56bh disc set for this frame, but i'm not sure if the hub sounds as nice as the other ones.
I have the OROME VALAR TH50D wheelset - store.elvesbike.com/products/orome-valar-th50d-carbon-road-disc-brake-wheelsets,-disc-brake-carbon-wheels-superlight-carbon-disc-brake-wheelsets?VariantsId=10411
@@JourdainColeman Several carbon frames have the Cervelo cable container inside the botton bracket. Elves did a nice touch there. Showing without showing consumers they produce Cervelo bikes.
Hi there, seeing these videos of you building bikes really got me thinking about building my own. This would be the first time for me and I don't have a lot of experience in this direction at all. My question is wether it's always possible to get a nice result, just with different time investments or if there are chances to royale fuck up quite easily? Any insights are helpful!
If you have the time then you can get a good result. Plus you know how everything works so you can fix it yourself. You need good tools though, and lots of them so that's an extra cost / investment
I also have the frame and did remove it because it did not stay in place when riding - it always started to move up the seatpost. Maybe I did not install it correctly.
They are actually not that hard. As Jourdain has done a fantastic job of explaining, you just need to plan your build. If you use an electronic group set such as the Force AXS, the build is relatively easy and also plan for cable changing.
It’s not even the fact that this is a Chinese mass produced carbon frame set, it’s the mere fact that it’s disc brake. Never spend your money on something like this ladies and gentlemen.
That 105 groupset is a heck of a deal. Too bad “Big Bike” is trying to force us to eschew technology that has worked well for nearly a century. I enjoy electronic shifting, but the price vs. benefit equation doesn’t always make sense.
