4:05 - It's not clipping. That sound cut-offs in windy situations are caused by the foam inside the dead cat of the BY-MM1. I saw it in many reviews, people thinking the mic is not ok, but some just took off the foam inside the dead cat, put the furry thing back on and it works beautifully! The wind reduction is still good and no cut offs in sound.
Yep, you sold me this one! They should give you a commission! Always dubious of electrical equipment when the price is so low! I mean let's face it, you cant even make a cake for this price! But thanks so much for showing me it's actually a viable microphone! 👍
I actually got one for free from buying my mirrorless camera. Haven't used it since I use a separate audio recorder. But I plan to use it as a backup mic when doing projects.

I have been on the fence with this mic. I finally ordered it last night for around $20.00 on eBay. I wanted a small shotgun mic when I use my tiny action camera on a gimbal. I already have around 5 different mics, but they are for different purposes. Can't wait till it arrives!!
@@AndrewMurphyFilms I have an adapter plate with cold shoe mounts on it. Fits on the bottom of the gimbal where you can mount a tripod. It will be perfect with the mic & a small Ulanzi cube light. 👍
I have it. Its a great mic. However, the shockmount is completely worthless. Its clanky as all hell. So it only works when stationary. With a better shockmount - yes no problem! But I bought a videomicro instead because of the hassle.
I like mine. I have two in an XY pattern going through my Zoom H6 for field recordings. I didn't think the floor noise was an issue at all. The floor noise is probably due to the shitty pre-amp in your camera. Sounds the same as the Rode video micro for a fraction of the cost.

I dont get it. The deadcat is wrecking my audio completely. It works fine on a tripod, but handheld its rubbing somehow against the mic creating booming sounds. Anyone got this issue?
Important notice: The shock mount does nothing to absorb vibrations and even the lens AF and touching the camera gently (holding it for example) will get picked up by the mic and ruin the sound. And the output level is way too high. Even if I set my gain lvl to 1 above 0 I easily get distortion. Completely worthless as a shotgun mic on a handheld setup and in an environment with loud ambience e.g. a concert.
I got the Boya MM1 and connected to my phone and recorded, but the volume is low. Any ideas how to make it louder? just with using the phone and nothing else

@@AndrewMurphyFilms I think it might be the iPhone dongle thing (3.5 to L) that's causing this noise and interference, as it does a similar thing now with the Boya BY WM4. I picked up the dongle from the iStore.

Hello, can I use this for a podcast? I have the same Boya BY MM1 and the Sony A7iii but the sound recorded is terrible... I always get noise when recording and I have to post produce the sound. I expected to use this setup for making podcast or live videos but it seems the quality of sound is poor... What can I do?
I've yet to try out the MM1+ but if you are using it on a phone then 100% Because it has that headphone out jack on the mic, you can monitor the audio to make sure it sounds good whilst recording :)
will it work if i bought a longer plug? if it does what would it be? coz im using it for my pc even tho the plug is only for phones,laptop,camera since its short.
@@migi7150 sine this mic has no battery with a long cable you should expect the quality to drop. Im figuring you need a separate preamp for a long cable
