We spent $37.81 to have afternoon tea at the famous Heritance Kandalama in Sri Lanka. After visiting the Cave of the Divine Kings, we're naming this the Feast of the Divine Kings as it's the only name suitable for such a grand spread of cakes, chocolates, and appetizers! We were recommended by a lot of local Sri Lankans to come to the Heritance Kandalama as a must visit. But with room rates starting at $250 a night and 7,000 lkr ($38) for afternoon tea...we're going to explore to see if it indeed is a must visit or not worth the hype. Comment below with your thoughts!

Some disappointing monologues in this one. It's totally unfair the way you have portrayed the picture.... Heritance Kandalama is an Eco lodge which was built in harmony of the surroundings, just visiting for high tea will not give you clear picture of what it has to offer. I my self have stayed there and it's a totally different experience. So its truly exclusive .... you can give your opinion but be humble to lay out the circumstances in which you have experienced it.....

It is a beautiful eco-friendly hotel I wanted to visit for a long time. All the credits go to the architect and the engineers who made it possible. Location wise, Heritance Kandalama is one of a kind and very unique in all of South Asia. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Thank you for highlighting about road safety in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka really need to go a long way to fix them. I request you to do a separate video about it. Educate the people and make a trend to put road safety rules. Our people need to be more educated and civilised in the road. It’s costing us too many lives.

The Johnny’s comment about Road Safety in Sri Lanka should be brought to the notice to the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Transport and to the entire government. It should be taken very seriously and make sure anymore fatality on the road to our locals and the tourists because we don’t live here to die on the street and the too they don’t come the same intention.

I have not told you why I am interested in your videos. My Dad, a UN worker was in SL for two years, while back. Of course the whole family was there. I do not know the price but we always has similar treat when we were living in Kandy. We would go for a swim near the Kandy lake and then go to a restaurant that served a similar fare. We did travel but not extensively like you. Childhood memories are in the back of the head but did not return lately. So me and my siblings are planning to visit all the countries my parents worked. Beginning from Africa (most of the continent) to Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Korea, Mongolia and the Papua New Guainía . We are done with half the Africa and Malaysia, Mongolia and Indonesia. We will hit Sri Lanka, once this pandemic is over. You are a very valuable resource. Yes this place was recommended by many.

@@JohnnyFD My parents crossed Africa, for four and half years, when I was a toddler. Dad was researching DDT effect on rural mothers. I was 7 through 9, when were in Sri Lanka.. All of us in the family speak many languages.

Yeah heritance kandalama is 99% eco friendly design by 'Geoffrey Bawa'.at early 1990's its the worlds best hotel and now a days its an unique sri lankan hotel.also you can watch sigiriya rock fortress and Dambulla Golden Temple at two ends of this hotel.sir Geoffrey Bawa designed this hotel as a eagle who waving his wings.yeah it's great to have you in sri lanka 🇱🇰♥️

I have been to Kandalama Hotel once and I truly enjoyed the experience there. Out of the hotels that I have visited in Sri Lanka, there I have seen the best variety of food. It's a nature centric resort experience and I get that not everyone will enjoy that experience. I would like to suggest you to visit Forest rock garden hotel in Anuradhapura. I haven't visited there yet but what I have seen from my friends who have visited there is that it's such a unique place, blended with truly wonderful architecture. About the Sri Lankan road safety, that's one of the major issues that the country has right now. All the points that you highlighted there are illegal and carries a significant amount of penalties but lack of driving discipline and various other socio economic complications have caused this mess and I am sure the government is working towards mediating this issue.

Johnny, you’ve been brutally honest about few things and I’m sure most people would appreciate it. You are nailing some issues on the head and as long as we are in denial about it we’d have no chance of fixing them. Sri Lanka is absolutely blessed with so many things as the list would go on but it’s the processes which are created by people that is a hindrance to the progress. Question for you Johnny, where would you rate Sri Lanka amongst other countries for a visit? Because I might be biased as it is home for an opinion however after traveling many countries and now living in Aus for about 25 yrs I feel SL has something unique and magical about the place. Keen to know your thoughts mate.

Thanks for the comment. It's a tough question as I'm 100% happy I'm here in Sri Lanka and love it here...but out of the 50 countries I've been to...it's close to #1 for some things like diversity, and close to #50 for others like road safety. This hotel became one of the best and must visit hotels in the world in rankings if I am not wrong in early 2000s. Your videos are all fantastic...which have very balanced and honest opinions with everything you experience. This is the true beauty of Sri Lanka. Normally afternoon teas are always massive, but the one you had definitely they have given something extra for you two :)..🇬🇧

Johnny , Kandalama is kind of an architectural masterpiece. Created by renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. The hotel is about a kilometre long, but has been designed to blend in with nature so it's almost invincible when you look at it from the other side of the lake. A day at the hotel is definitely worth.

The majority of road accidents in Sri Lanka are caused by undisciplined drivers.The new leadership of the country has focused on this and has introduced the lane law as a step forward.It is currently being implemented in the Colombo area.It must be said that the implementation of new laws over the years has seen qualitative progress.So let's wait for the bad guys to get better😁❤✌

Dear Johnny, As most people have said you have done a great job highlighting road safety in SL. But I don't agree with some who says that this has become a norm that we cannot do anything to eradicate. This is where you can help SL johnny, by going a step further. Please try and forward this video to Sri Lankan president's office.The current president is trying to change so many bad practices in SL which has become norm in SL for years. Please somehow try to get through this message to him from a foreigner's point of view ( sorry to name you as a foreigner you are a true local than most of us, but I mean from your foreign nationality point of view). Try his secretarial office as well if you can. You will be doing a great service to SL and its people, even if can get one policy implemented for road safety.

Bus drivers, trucks, and tik tuks are the main culprits of road accidents. They lack accountability. Having said that I should add that foreigners always indulge in Buddhist bashing when they see things that they are not used to in their own countries. However, there are over 6 million non-Buddhists in SL. My advise is for you to get a ride through PICKME ride app or UBER. Quite reasonable fares. Avoid the hassle.

Sri Lanka has all the traffic laws but there's no effective implementation, plenty of accidents due to careless driving of specially bus drivers, the politicians in charge aren't bothered because they all drive duty free imported land cruiser vehicles with safety vehicles in front and back, unfortunately public have to face all these careless driving...

Known for its’ architecture by Jeffrey Bawa , even Prince Charles is a fan of Jeffrey Bawa’s architecture ! A lot of hotels have his architecture represented !! Tea with shorts eats between 3-5pm miss this ritual ! 😋ENJOY !!😛 Christina looks happy!!!😚

For hotel stays? It depends on how long you're staying for. 1 night at $400 may be doable if you travel once a year. But if traveling longer or more often it needs to be much less. During covid times the best hotels are in the $100 a night range.

Agree. Specially bus drivers and truck drivers in Sri Lanka are the main culprits for many road deaths. Would you believe one time a woman inside a bus stop was killed when a bus crashed into it?

This part of World,especially in South Asia motorists never bother about traffic rules and regulations. Simply push the vehicle on the Road. No hectic fine and penalty for accidents and traffic violations... So lots of life's losses in the road and goverments duty is simply collect the fine and road taxes....

Look i completely agree that it gotta improve a lot, but if you really believe it to a level that you would ask ppl not to come to Sri Lanka you would have left the first plane out after the airport was opened. I agree with you about the hotel in Kandalama, the quality of the stay is not really worth the cost. It seems that it hasn’t changed much in the last 10 years. Anyway I still love going there and relaxing by the pool in the afternoons around sunset, looking out in to the lake. The place you are staying at sounds much more homely. If you want somewhere a bit different try Vil Uyana in Sigiriya - it has a paddy field/country style vibe to it, maybe you can bag a deal 😅

Sadly people are so used to reckless driving here and many precious lives are being lost to road accidents. Yah.., the worse are the idiots driving head lamps-on without giving a damn about other drivers due to either arrogance or ignorance. Governments have been trying to clamp down on these ugly habits by deploying motor-traffic police to penalize them financially island wide. But there aren't enough traffic cops to man all the roads country-wide. The way I see it the only way to put this right is by strict penalty point scheme like in Australia where when you gather a certain number of points your license will be cancelled automatically for a period. Also to introduce automated video systems country-wide (if it's practically possible) to find culprits and charge with above penalty points scheme on top of financial penalties.

@@JohnnyFD That's a shame. But I think take away polices vary from hotel to hotel. This is why I don't like the the idea of high-tea for 2. It is a lot to eat. I hope they don't resell/recycle the food to another customer :) They seem to have great ratings on booking sites. Anyways, Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay in Sri Lanka.

11:23 civilized country! most developing nation have this issue, its 65 years of garbage in garbage out since the British left. This cannot be corrected from bottom up, It needs to be reckoned from top down. Speaking from my first 26 years of my life there. Here is my 2 cents : take Australia for example : a bunch of criminals turn that country in to a place worth living today, Here in SL: A bunch bourgeoisie's allowed a bunch of bad people to turn this county in to a den of thieves and made it miserable for themselves. Sad but true....some of us escaped out of there but the rest of the masses are still asleep, it may take another 50 odd years for them to wake up and act as in France 1789.😝 Appreciate sharing your experiences and views. Be extra careful on 2 wheels specially down narrow roads. Stay SAFE! Cheers.👊🏾
