I think 1 coat of primer before painting a darker color might help eliminate the need for 3 coats of the more expensive paint. And provide a little more durability on a frequently used item. Also would suggest using a wood conditioner on stripped wood to get a more even finish and you won't have to work so fast with the stain.
Lauren your presentation has improved noticeably. You sound more natural . Your content varies and is more complete and detailed. I enjoy the photography as well. We’re not hearing the same text/ script nor viewing the same pictures and yet it’s comprehensive and artistic. Bravo!
I really like the end result of the table but I was a bit confused that you chose not to do the repair on the extensions to ensure that they are level with the main table. Looks like it won't take much to make that work. I really like the blue and the TN Whiskey stain together. Hope the chairs are a win for you!
I love what you have done to this table! The best table I ever bought was a maple one from ikea! It’s round when you sit 4 at it, then the middle opens to bring the leaf up and then it becomes oval! Best £200 I ever spent! That was 23 years ago and it’s still going strong!
I absolutely LOVE that type of table with the built-in leaves, and I also love the drop-leaf tables. My grandparents had one similar to yours, with the built-in leaves but much older than yours. It belonged to my great-grandmother and was passed to my Nana. My Mom has it now, and it will be mine one day!
There isn't a problem. The table is designed so when you pull the leaves out, they come out a couple inches past the end of the main table. Then you lift up and push the leaves back in, and everything lines up. But if you do that, you can't reach all the edges, which needed to be finished too. You can see it working properly at 5:55
I have a similar table design but mine is older, has barley twist legs and planks instead smooth services. My problem was that the skirt was lower on one side than the other. The solution for us was to lift the entire table using bun feet at the bottom. Matching the finish was the hardest part, but now you can’t tell and the table is 2 5/8” taller.
I am a new subscriber have been watching you from the beginning and I must say I’m happy you went back to Lauren the teacher on how to flip furniture. I started flipping because of you but the only problem I have is searching Marketplace.
Lauren, your table is BEAUTIFUL!! You did such a nice job with the sanding, paint, stain and finish!! It’s so cute and I know you will make a lot of great memories around this table with family and friends! 😍🥰♥️
When I was growing up, we had the exact table but was a solid stain or paint ,kind of Swedish sort or Scandinavian light wood color. The chairs were square 3 or 4 rungs.
So glad you waited for this table so much better than the others you've been looking at. I love it, and I love what you did with it can't wait to see what you do with those 4 chairs that you should be getting, re upholstering them would be great.❤
Lauren if you haven’t tried your damp blue sponge with the LM gel stain you should! Works amazing and spread so nicely and avoids streaks. I do still spray my surface with my mister. Hope you give it a try 😊
Good job on the dining room table Lauren! I love the natural grain of the wood. I hope the chairs will be a suitable match. It is so much fun being creative!❤🎉😊
Love how you have done that table. Mom had two drop leave tables and they are so handi and I love the idea and looks of them. So pretty. Excited to see if the chairs will work out for you........that would be awesome! Great video! Have a great weekend!
I love how the table looks! I hope the chairs work out. If they do, I look forward to seeing how you upholster them, if you do! My dining table and chairs need both makeovers and reupholstering.
Water repellant... As you are about to put a pitcher or glasses of water on the table and the table violently knocks it from your hand since you used Gator Hyde.
The table looks great! Just curious, why did you switch to the SurfPrep orbital sander? Does it have more power than the Ryobi or Dewalt orbital? I just never understood why I would see furniture flippers that owned a 3x4 SurfPrep would also use an orbital from them. That just seems like it would be a waste of money to have both SurfPrep sanders.
It's great that you got a call about the chairs. They'll go well with the table. I had a table in the same pull out leaves/extensions. I believe it was probably oak as well, but stained a dark walnutie color. I really wish I still had it. (Bummer.) Were you intending for the two pieces to match? (Or did I misunderstand?.) If you used the same stain on both pieces, then either they didn't accept the stain the same &/or they are two different woods because they don't match. Or is my monitor crazy?
What kind of wood is that? I have a teak table with similar extensions about 50 years old.. Very handy not to have to have leaves that have to be stored elsewhere. My leaves come out level though. Also mine is oiled only, no clear coat and has been really easy to maintain. . What kind of finish is that that is so difficult to sand off?
You should put on a proper mask, pants, longs sleeves, shoes, goggles, hat/bandanna and gloves on when working. Now you are covered with the particles from the table. That’s not good.
