I'm in the media/publishing industry, mainly editing based, but there's a class I took in college that has stuck with me. We had a long debate and discussion about how there is no such thing as an original idea. There are concepts that can make things feel original, but any concept has been done before. A lot of books copy the same kind of blueprint. So long as there are slight differences and nothing is taken word for word, it's good to go. There's a lot of things I've edited where authors copy stuff without citing authors or musicians and those have the potential to get in trouble for copyright issues but it's harder to manage and I don't think many people care enough to report this kind of stuff.

Bright young women is an amazing book. I “read” it on audio book. And it was amazing. The way the author explains everything is like you can feel like you’re there. She just has a way of telling the moment, the way you can feel the room is like tasting a good glass of wine. She is probably my most favorite story teller of all time!

$40 per person would in no way cover the entire cost of each person's meal for the wedding. I work for a mid priced wedding venue and the per person cost for a three course meal (which is considerably less food than you could get at a buffet) is btwn $130 and $160. The couple likely hopes the guests will contribute 50%, and they will match it. It could be the difference btwn them being able to have a sit down meal together vs just a few grazing stations to tide guests over after an evening ceremony.

The issue with me a girls the musical is that they made a movie inspired theater production back into a movie . The broadway production is so popular because they don’t have the cgi so the stage props have to be a specific way and the classic lines. So the movie version of the theatre production didn’t make sense and fell flat

I went to a Christian college with all of the rules you’re describing, and it really only applies when you’re a freshman or living on campus. Which is honestly helpful in terms of learning responsibility in some ways. But a lot of it is also pretty wacky at times.
