Good repair handy. Based on comments you hit a few buttons on folks today. I work in several multi million dollar homes and money is not the issue for these clients. They want to know when I’m in there the silver is safe and they don’t have to lock the liquor cabinet. HandyOn!
Here in my part of Texas, people will either pay top dollar for licensed and bonded/insured plumbers and electricians, and people/companies who specialize in only doing one thing (tile, drywall, windows, roofing, etc) and GCs who sub out everything to the aforementioned people, or they'll pay very cheaply for handymen who can "do it all" off NextDoor. There doesn't seem to be much in-between. Nobody here has any problem hiring the illegal Hispanics (or if not illegal, at least very little English speaking), not even for commercial, it seems. Do licensed, bonded and insured plumbers and electricians charge what you do for electrical and plumbing work, Handy? Or actually, are you a licensed plumber and electrician yourself? Are they cheaper or more expensive? I'm just curious how the area you work in usually does things. It's very different from here. That said, I think the cost of living difference here is a big factor. You can buy single-family houses here for like 240k built in the 80s (or 160k right before covid), so I'm guessing prices aren't near as high, and everybody has bilingual friends who can talk to the Hispanics or they're fine using Google translate.
@@TheHandyman1where are you located? These jobs are taken by guys quick by guys who can do it quickly and efficiently for about $300/hr. $150 just to step into the door
I have never had a simple and super duper clean sink faucet replacement. The last one I did involved me breaking out the sawsall tool and cutting the faucet in half because everything was rusted and seized up
People think the rates are high until they have to buy a new truck. Or replace warranty work. Tools wear out. If you had to rent most of the tools used, it would be a fortune… Handymen are becoming higher demand.. the more knowledge, the higher the value.. don’t underestimate your work.. it’s a lot different than being an employee!
If I could buy a house for $800,000 or a truck for $70,000 maybe I could lower my prices. But the fact is a house costs $1.75 million and trucks are up to $110,000.
@@TheHandyman1 most people don’t live in 2 million dollar homes or drive $100,000 vehicles, I couldn’t get people to pay those prices in my wet dreams 🙄🤷🏼♂️
I always find myself doing repairs in buildings that are 75 to 100+ years old. When I show up to replace a sink, I start out making sure the packing nut is snug, and I keep caps with seals in case the valve is leaky when I take off the hose. I also bring a small wet vac. Had way to many pipes burst while I was looking at them. Not working on them, just trying to see where the leak was.
Since I have everyone’s attention, how much should we charge for a bathroom remodel? SMALL BATHROOM, new cabinet, top and sink, new towel racks and tp holder and paint everything. I estimate $850, and then a 5x5 (25 sf) tile floor for additional $1650 ? Total job estimate to be $2500 ? Maybe $2350 ? What would you guys charge?
1/2 day for demo and prep for tile. 1/2 day to install the tile. 1/4 day to grout. 1/2 day to paint. 1/2 day to install vanity, toilet, new towel bars. 1/2 day for any other odds and ends. You will not always work a full day.
Did they pay that interior designer to design that backsplash too? I think I migh remember watching the video where you installed it and people were flipping out in the comments. Is that a Park Tools bike repair stand holing up that BMX bike? How do you like it? I'm in the market for a bike repair stand.
It is a park tools. I spent the extra money for the heavy duty stand. I can easily work on 80 pound electric mountain bikes on it. I have had it for over a year and have no complaints.
You did not work hourly. It is not PER hour, merely a $250 job charge to exchange a fixture. I charge that, then bill an hourly rate for anything that is over my job time. That is not my or your hourly rate. It is a job rate. If the client added more work, i.e. a toilet valve or a leaking hose bib or maybe some drywall repair, would you bill $500 per hour? No, you would bill a job rate. If they saw that rate billed hourly over an eight hour day for two or three days, I'd think they would have something to say about your 'hourly' rate.
We're not getting $400 an hour for it. I don't think you are either. I didn't see any explanation for this job on your money channel. We're getting $118 an hour per man in Seattle for the same stuff.
Maybe you could help me get started recording by coming to Seattle and doing a job with us. We have a guest room you can stay in. It's just me (55) and my son (30) working for landlords in Seattle. We're doing a shower tile repair and re-grout right now. $5500.
I have dozens of videos over there on pricing. It helps if your have a formal education in economics and business management. Basic math skills help too.
Not sure who your customers are but working in Manhattan with people that own $50 million brownstones I rarely see them being this generous in fact they’re quite opposite most are always second guessing the cost and squeezing you for a better price
11:00 Is that right? Well, if I can't fix it, it ain't broke. Where are you operating? I'm in Seattle. We only work for landlords and their agents. How about you?
@@TheHandyman1 Huh. I think replacing a faucet is a little easier than surgery on a human being...but maybe you're right that they don't know the difference :)
Tell your friends and family you're in business. Do repairs for super cheap for a year. Tell every customer to recommend you to their friends and family. Once you have enough work to work every day of the year start raising your prices to meet what your local market will support.
@TheHandyman1 slow down cowboy how are we supposed to charge so much when your telling everyone how to do it now!!! Lol jk I love that you help and spread the good word!!! 👍
I go to the some city near me and putting my flyers to people mail box I put stick on my car I do my best hopefully god see I know he see guys bless u familys and good luck in life :)
If you are going to make videos clean your garage. You may do good work but i looked up one of your videos before i hired you i would pass and hire someone else just because the disorganized messy garage. If your garage is messy your work pr is too
First, I'm not for hire. I'm booked out indefinitely. This isn't my garage. This is a storage building that I have tools set up in for occasional work. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to afford my service if I had availability.
If they don't know how to do it then what? Not use it? They aren't paying for the hr, they're paying him for his skill set guy. Doesn't matter how long it takes
@@TheHandyman1 if you can get someone to pay that kind of money for 30 minutes of more power to you… I would never pay that much but then again I do stuff myself 🤷🏼♂️
Please elaborate.... I don't quite understand your statement... As a functioning business, you're more than welcome to establish your rates.. but that does not by any means make it ethical
@@pietroantonelli6961 if his client base is willing to pay 400 an hour then whats it matter. Hes stated before most of his clients are repeat customers and they know his prices. Everyone cant charge that much, but it works for him. Hes probably not charging by the hour either, Needs to be worth his time.
