Thank you for acknowledging that it’s not an issue of laziness or incompetence. Some people value their free time differently. A lot of tasks for some people are on the “I just don’t want to do this…” list. If someone else can earn a living accommodating those folks, it’s win-win.

I agree, some people reach a point in life where it's just make sense to pay someone and not be bothered with it, regardless how small and easy. When I was younger I built our 800 linear foot fence with three gates, recently I called someone to rehang two of the gates...haha.

You do what most “handymen” don’t do. You test your installation to make sure it works as it should. I am a building operations supervisor for a fortune 100 company. I teach my technicians to take before, during, after pictures, and a short video of the item working. I have them upload it all to a work order as backup to the work. But most importantly they are to test the item for proper functionality.

There’s definitely something to be said about being the person who shows up for the estimate and the work. My customers all have commented on how nice it is to deal with one person. Not having to deal with a sales person, then someone to come out and measure and order parts and then another person to install goes a long way with people being willing to pay more. And I always welcome customers calling electricians or plumbers for these types of fixes. When you get a $250.00 bill just for them to walk through the door, $350.00 for a ceiling fan is cheap! Keep up the great work!!

This is why I invite my customers to shop around. You think it’s too much? Feel free to shop around and get bids. If you have the skills, by all means save yourself the money and do it yourself.

@@nekmiftari9635 what happens when you install the fan, flip the switch and nothing happens? Is the average homeowner going to know how to trouble shoot the issue? Hey! I have been the Apt management for almost 20 years and there is that common problem I have seen where the screws that hold in a door latch or deadbolt have lost their grip, and the typical solution is glue, sticks, putty, or that ugly metal sleeve that sits over the door. There is this new hardware piece that sits INSIDE the door alongside the latch. Its threaded to receive the machine screws, tightening down the latch. Its called ReSecure Latch. They have a couple videos on here showing how it works. Maybe something that could help you in your next home repair.

Really thinking about being a handyman..I can do everything you've done and more. People are so lazy and don't want to mess with things. I've done everything myself, from rebuilding boiler units, total car repair, ripping out floors and building new joists and subfloors, electrical work, etc. I make too much money at my city job ...considering part time though.

Do small jobs when you have time and get a feel for the business. In no time you'll be wanting to quit your other job. You'd be amazed at how simple many of the jobs are.

When you do installs like this do you just have set amounts to do certain tasks? I can tell that time wise doesnt matter in our field because our pay relies on skills and thats the hardest thing I have trouble with is feeling like I charge too much sometimes. I just drove 2 hours to do a washer and dryer hook-up because the lady couldnt bend down to do it herself and I only charged $120 for everything. Also how do you get paid by your customer? I ask them what they prefer and they usually do cash but i would like to use apps like paypal or cashapp. Any tips?

I like it, but for the money, I would throw a balancing kit at it too and a few minutes making sure that fan rotates dead level. Pretty simple... Mesure distance from the ceiling to blade tip and rotate through all the blades trying to find the high one, then weigh it down with the movable balance weight before doing final glue down on the back of the blade it reduces running noise and extends bearing life..

If you’re a hvac tech like me you going to find more strange stuff like this than what you think including no filter units from install then you have to add the all thing.

im a handyman and these numbers include many factors. location, customers, marketing, (if any) connections, and rates. if youre just starting out then dont expect this immediately. it takes time to reach said numbers. you will have good weeks that produce this and more, and youll have slow weeks where the pawn shop looks like an option.

I am put a ceiling fan in my bedroom and there wasn't one there prior. After wiring it with the existing wires, everything works but the motor on the fan is not spinning at full capacity and almost is making a humming noise like it wants to go to a higher rpm. How did you wire the fans here to the preexisting wires?

Great video, only thing is the boxes used for the paddle fan installations are not rated to be installed directly in an attic space without a vapour barrier which would then need to be sealed to the existing attic vapour barrier.

vapor barrier as in the vapor barrier underneath the roof shingles? can you provide some more info or perhaps direct to some literature where it states these are "not rated to be installed directly in an attic space without a vapor barrier...". Pretty safe to assume most attics have vapor barrier underneath roof shingles or any other type of roofing.

I like to use the old work fan boxes that screw into the joists over the brace ones if it's right next to the joist.

So I installed several fans in units that had those same type surface mount fixtures, and I didn't add a brace or anything..was I supposed to? I have always seen it done this way and always done it. Or maybe here in texas all the round junction boxes are always supported properly to hold a ceiling fan? I think ours are metal and have to have braces across the studs or something because it for sure was a little diff than the ones you removed. Maybe I am ok ;)
