■ SAIGON, VIETNAM: Having truly struggled to spend $100 US in an hour in a Sri Lankan market last year I thought $200 would be tough in Vietnam. I was very wrong! The Dongs ran out fast and I didn't even make it to an hour. Spending 5 million Vietnamese Dong in less than an hour shopping at Saigon's old market was awesome. But I wish I had brought more money as I didn't even get through 20% of the market and I felt I could've gone shopping for at least another hour.
So therefore I cam up with the $400 US (10 Million Vietnamese) Saigon market hunt challenge.
The goal was to shop for 2 hours....

I get offers everyday actually and yes the money would be unreal but can't bring myself to advertise a product I don't actually use myself. If a black shirt manufacturer for example wanted to sponsor me I'd seriously consider it though

I mean, principles are good, but would you seriously suffer if he did a little ad of a minute, or less, to be able to do what he does best? As he said, if someone finds him and offers a product that is valuable, for example a black shirt or a bag, why not? It's his job after all. I don't get why people get upset when someone finds an extra income; it wouldn't take anything away from the quality of the video. Just my opinion (:

iv done this treasure hunt in Nam many times. Harald is bob on here he knows what he is doing, supporting the venders and paying fair prices with some haggling. To those who have never been wdo not understand the market hunt in Asia. he could get any of these items 20/30% cheaper but its for good content. the 1000 dong haggle has the locals cracking up every time. It's like that in every market I think? we call it hand clap here (NL) where you bargain and when you're agreeing on the price you shake on it by clapping eachother's hand. I bargained all the time on markets in the Czech Republic for example as well, it's part of the game.

9:50 I think he said something about "morning" because in Vietnam, there is a custom called "Chào hàng". You generally don't want to hassle the owner if you are there first customer because of superstitions 14:05 Same thing. They don't want you to walk away if you're their first customer. Bad luck

The thing I love 😍 😍 about watching Heraldo in a market is not only an education on bargaining but also the fact it's a "non-native" English speaker bargaining with another "non-native" English speaker... In perfect English... It really inspires a lot of confidence for native English speakers to go adventuring in the backstreet markets you wouldn't usually attempt! All reminds me of a Dutch train journey where the French woman was attempting to converse with the Dutch conductor who then reeled out "can we just speak in English as that would be easier".... Both parties immediately then "hit it off!!"

Watching raw and real interaction with the local people is the most interesting thing. I always feel present there physically. You are also kind and generous unlike most travellers. It spices up the experience. Keep it that way. For most of us who don't have chances to visit as many countries as you travellers and vloggers do, your videos are wonderful gifts.
