I own a couple Miata’s and have tried a number of setups. For the money the Koni/FM setup is hard to beat for undulating back roads, it can’t keep up in the bumpier sections but overall it’s a good compromise. The xida race setup with softer springs is objectively better but isn’t as compliant. I’ve sampled both sets of Miester R’s and didn’t care for them, the cheap ones didn’t control the rear well and bottomed out dangerously at times. The regular set is better but the amount of travel means you end up with tires in hitting your fenders.
This is a good anecdote to help inform others on possible options - obviously all of these you suggest are still at least double the cost if not many more times more expensive than the Maxpeedingrods. So, if cost is the be-all-end-all then maybe there is a place for Maxpeedingrods coilovers. Amazing to think Xidas are near 10x the price.
as far as the valve code goes i have done a lot of shock dyno testing and worked with mxr to get the t07 coil overs to shock dyno as good as bc coil overs, regarding the height variation if you give that feedback to mxr they will fix it immediately they are great like that.

It wouldn't be very hard to cut an inch or two out of the unthreaded part of the bottom tube, weld, and adjust as necessary. Of course, that assumes that space is available to begin with and also it would void any possibility of a warrantee claim. I might consider these for the Wife's '07 V6 6-speed Accord sedan though as its original struts are well past their prime.
That might be an option, sadly it seems more a factor of the damper length, than the bottom section being too long. Certainly that was the case for the rear shocks.
As what I understand. The lower part is for adjusting the damper travel ratio. After u find the perfect ratio u can use the upper part to adjust the ride height. BTW I am more interesting to their T7 coilovers .
There are so MANY options out there, I ran bilsteins on my clubman for a while, they were nice, but too soft for my preference - but I don't daily drive my MX-5 so don't take my experience as influence, just an opinion.
Since youre threading them all the way in you could cut some thread off the top, still have just as much thread engagement as if you had them threaded out, and have a decent damper set for cheap A very cheap product that you can turn into a good product with a little work is a great option for certain groups of the community That said, a product that has to be turned into a good product is therefore not on its own a good product, also, for political reasons, i keep as little of my spent dollars china bound as possible, so im 0% interested. As for people attacking your legitimacy as a reviewer, those arent the kinds of people making informed decisions for themseleves any way, those who are taking proper consideration will be listening. Ended up backing out of buying a cf fastback from lightyear, had the money sitting there for a couple of months and still not a solid start date for production, so i started thinking about all the other things i could do with that much money, and bought another miata, lol. Theres a carbon company much nearer me i may look into to keep heading that direction in future, but funds are funneled towards a house atm so toys are on hold.
Agree these are on the cusp of being a very fair product for the price conscious buyer - with just a few fundamental flaws. As it is out of the box though, the ride heights that are achievable are just 'odd'.
Sorry to hear of the troubles getting a fastback. I hear he has recently completely re-created new moulds and started making a new generation of fastback again.
Did you check how much travel they have in bump and droop out of the box?. The ones designing the kit might not even know what an mx5 is, they just copied something else to get something out on the market.
@@Bbeavis most people that goes for the cheap end seems to mostly want a 'slammed' car 😂 theese seem to be better suited to a budget track day toy than the stance crowd..
You torture yourself buying another set of these - hope you can get a refund. :-). The build quality is a disgrace - clearly not fit for purpose. Unfortunately there are plenty of these cheap and nasty Coilovers on the market that have never seen any R&D on the products they are sold for. I know that MCA and Shockworks are pretty much the best options around (I have the latter on my NC) at a reasonable cost in Australia. Another one worth investigating would be BC Racing as they seem to be supported in Australia.
I like to try things, I like projects and challenges, this was an opportunity to see what improvements/changes had come since my last time trying Maxpeedingrods. Maybe it's torture, but I'm not one to just sit on my hands and do nothing, I gotta keep busy somehow!
@@Bbeavis Love your "try things" attitude. This case is somewhat a public service for those entertaining the cheap option. Really appreciate your videos on various MX5 topics. I recently used your Sandown track day videos as a primer for my recent Sandown track day. Gave me a good guide for target cornering speeds and braking points.
8 years ago I had a set of orange ones... They had the same adjustable knob, which didn't work on 2 of them out of the box. Looks like they've literally just changed the paint colour (half expect if you scratch the blue there'd be orange underneath 😅)
