$40k Compact SUVs - 2019 Audi Q5 vs 2019 Ford Edge ST 

People, relax. It's a video mainly about what you can buy for the same money. Great video, I haven't driven a Ford edge in any form but have driven a Q5 and it's a great vehicle for the money in my opinion. I can't see spending over $50 grand for a Ford suv or any other big 3 2 row suv to be honest. I'm still amazed that the new Chevy blazer can run over 50 grand.

Over a period of 5 years the cost of ownership would have you paying more to keep the Audi on the road. The Audi dealer will service your wallet more so than the Ford dealer

Ford Edge ST is a midsize crossover, however, the escape is a compact SUV.

How is the EDGE compact?! It isn't just slightly larger - it is much larger.

Love audi, but I'm taking the edge st any day of the week.

Edge ST loaded with everything but the brake package is 39K. That is 401a, sky roof, 21 inch wheels, cold weather package. 39K isn't that bad compared to all the other brands and what you get. Sadly Ford doesn't allow you to have full boost during take off so 1st-2nd get held back guessing to help save the AWD system but once in 3rd - 8th you get it all the boost. Get it tuned from one of the many performance shops than you get boost in every gear and it is a different beast.

I wonder if Ford offers an SVT stage 1 & 2 option for this Edge ST? Coming up next, the Ford Edge ST8, with it's much anticipated 435 hp Coyote V8!!! (1 could only hope)

Not a good comparison. I much rather see the new Passport vs. Ford Edge ST and new Blazer and Murano. The Q5 is smaller and a premium class (more comparable to a Lincoln).

I agree here, though if you could have got a black optics optioned Q5 it would have looked better. Q5 also has way more aftermarket support

Good Vid. though to compare an interior of a Luxury type car to a Sport type car is not a good comparison, the Audio has the same setup as say a Lincoln or Lexus.

My take on this comparison is, I would take the Ford Edge over the Audi, simply because I'm hours away from an Audi dealership and only 25 minutes from a Ford dealership.

Awarding the Q5 the win based upon value completely disregards the different pricing philosophies between U.S. vehicles and those of import brands. A guy can easily get $5k+ off the ST, and that’s your starting point. One suggestion- for a few hundred bucks you can get either of these tuned and they become rather imposing. I’ve seen STs get into the mid-4s 0-60 all day long. And I have the Audi’s EA888 power plant in my car, approximately 360 HP (cost $750).

Yes I'm sure the model with 80 less HP and well over 100 less ft/ lb of torque is only 1 tenth slower from 0-60. Audi is famous for that, they claim the same numbers as other cars that have a hundred more HP. Sorry I drove both and it's not even close.

I just purchased a 2019 Audi Q5 SLine Black package (IN Canada the top package is called the TECHNIK) that's the one I got. I upgraded from a Platinum (Top package) 2016 Nissan Murano which I had for 3 years (after purchasing new). There's not even a comparison in my opinion between the Murano and the Q5 except for the seats, the Murano seats are World Class. But the Q5 in my opinion beats the Murano in every other category. I test drove a Q3, the same Ford Edge as in this video, the 2019 Acura RDX, 2019 Honda Pilot, 2019 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid (Which my wife purchased), 2019 Hyundai Kona and Ionic, and finally a Lexus RX 450. I'm a bigger guy and I have 2 growing boys (10 and 12), and the Q5 just seemed like the best bang for the buck for our family as I was looking to upgrade to something "nicer" from the Murano. I wanted to have a car with some juice and something FUN to drive too, but still pretty good on gas, and something good in the weather for living in the Pacific Northwest. My wife as I said got the Hybrid Rav for our commuter car, I'm lucky to work from home 75% of the time so the gas bill is never going to be too bad for me. I had a Focus ST. It had a feel of fun and playful. The edge is just a pregnant ST now. For all wheel drive I now own a Focus RS. Lots of space for me and a hell lot more fun. I will give the Edge an edge for a bigger family fun car. But for a smaller family fun car in the ST line goes to the Focus !

the audi has more value? are you serious? a 4 cylinders that costs more has better value than the one with a V6? I will take a turbo V6 over a turbo 4 any day, especially the one that is more fun to drive.

depends on what you value I guess. I will take a better ride, space and performance over some tech that probably goes to waste. To each their own though.

I prefer the styling of the edge, in fact I think the edge, explorer and expedition all look better than any Mercedes SUVs in terms of exterior styling

Driving, power, fun factor all goes to the Ford . The Ford has more leg and cargo room but the Audi wins because of the interior. Yes let me go spend fifty thousand on a vehicle solely based on the interior even though the other car has more power, more leg room, more fun to drive, and has more cargo space. Who finds these idiots to do reviews?

It's such a shame that Ford Australia pretty much ruined the edge (Or Endura as they called it here) by removing the 2.7L engine and replaced it with a 2.0L gutless diesel engine and then seriously over pricing it. It only lasted 2 years on the market here simply because you can buy a bigger, better and more popular Ford Everest (SUV version of the Ranger) for the same price. I really like the endura and would love to own one but again even on the 2nd hand market they are just too overpriced for what you are getting.
