I've made budget and non-budget builds of this deck and have been playing brawl on arena quite a lot with Ashnod. This commander is so much fun because it has a set game plan I try and follow every turn. In my opinion, inspiring sanctuary is not the play, because if you do not get it, it makes the nonartifact high end spells pointless since you have to cast them like normal. Ideally, this deck ramps turns 2 through 5, then sets you up for fun artifact shenanigans in the late game. The best Sac Fodder creatures you can sac turn 2, and immediately and continuously recur turns 3-5, in case you don't draw other sac fodder targets. S-tier: Reassembling Skeleton Haunt of the Dead Marshes Clay Revenant Brood of Cockroaches Persistent Specimen Sanitarium Skeleton Bloodghast (worth even in budget builds) Next tier I feel are cards that allow you to cycle through your deck. A-tier: Clattering Augur (maybe could be S-tier since you can recur it, but you can't do it on turn 3) Disciple of Perdition Dusk Legion Zealot Guildsworn Prowler Novice Occultist Last tier are cards that leave a body behind. B-Tier: Butcher Ghoul (better than cards that leave behind a token because of Midnight Reaper and Grim Haruspex) Putrid Goblin (better than cards that leave behind a token because of Midnight Reaper and Grim Haruspex) Hangarback Walker (doubles as a sac fodder target and a late game artifact payoff) (worth even in budget builds) Carrier Thrull (gives you access to five mana on turn 3) Some budget artifact pay-offs are: Elbrus, the Binding Blade Ancient Stone Idol Herald of Anguish Meteor Golem Sandstone Oracle Lithoform Engine (another card I think worth even on budget, gives you ability to copy abilities and permanents) Soul Conduit Wondrous Crucible Noxious Gearhulk Myr Battlesphere Phyrexian Triniform

As soon as I saw this girl I knew I had to make something like this around her. I was so happy to pull her in my prerelease ^.^ I think people really undervalue the powerstones, and Ashnod making so many of them so fast is a great way to show how useful they really are. Can't wait to give this a shot.

Let me know how it goes for you! I pulled her and Meld Mishra so I have work to do too lol

Because powerstones are bad if you aren't running artifacts their basically and essentially useless

These cheaper cmc commanders are great, they always seem to have more effect on the game when you can get them out on turn 2-3.

I pulled her in the prerelease and put her in my Lazav the Multifarious deck. That ramp means Lazav will be shapeshifting into whatever big boy hits the graveyard.

@@islarf5095 Some of the other cards in the deck: -Gix's Caress: makes a Powerstone and snipes someone's hand if they just tutored. -Tenacious Dead: both a recurring sacrifice for Ashnod as well as a means to let Lazav instantly ressurect for 2 and a black, if it winds up in the graveyard by other means. -Razorlash Transmogrant: for recurring sac, but also because it's an artifact that I can use with... -Slagstone Refinery and Urza, Powerstone Prodigy: Powerstone token gen, plus Urza lets me wheel for both cards to hand and cards to grave. These two then can combine with... -Encroaching Mycosynth: ensures all those Powerstone tokens can be used to cast any nonartifact support for Lazav, or recast Lazav himself. Not only that, but any permanent I discard with Urza and any creature that dies with Slagstone triggers their Powerstone token gen. I was utterly lost on how to finish my Lazav deck. Then Brothers' War came out and I had my missing puzzle piece.

I cast a feign death on my wurm coil engine and then sac it with ashnod to get the 2 3/3 and the wurm coil back

Would you do a 100$ upgrade follow up video? I'd like to make this decks a Little more competitive before I consider getting it. Maybe bringing it to a 7-8?

I actually took mine apart. I had trouble juggling sacking creatures and having a consistent artifact win con. I think if I were to upgrade it I’d look at wincons first but I’m not sure a deck tech is necessary. I might look at the 40k necron deck for possible ideas for a deck

i dont even bother protecting her or equiping her, first strike or thieves tools can be nice but the stones outright pay for her tax. often 1 or 2 powerstones is all you need anyway so just getting the cheapest possible dorks out helps there. some games you get the giant 7 drop stuck in hand so the recursive creatures are the keys. letting mana rocks tap for 1 over the powerstone 1 is a waste of a card, a slot and your tempo. you dont get the oppurtunity to drop giant bombs often but when you do they have to just dominate the board so steel hellkite and myr battlesphere are WAY better. For example, my tuned list has only 6 finishers since its so hard to get them out. pack rat is the actual GOAT, just a monster that turns your hand into 1 cost giant rats. haste equips are really good, i run all of them in this Hbrawl deck. nettlecyst is one of the most underrated cards, construcst are terrifying and ashnod just churns out rocks every turn. to that end DOM karn is great if in budget and so would urzas saga LMAO. the swords are good too but without the protection i wouldnt even think of any other protection effect. removal is a waste over card draw since you need to be able to turn ramp into actionable choices. also after 2 stones they realize that youre going to end up with infinite mana and trade at all costs with ashnod so protecting her is very difficult, but letting her trade is a great source of card advantage and tempo. Ive made zombies with her 2 times, and never seen enemy ashnods do it either. so zombie tribal is not good. undead augur as all id play in that sense. People will kill your aristocrats cards on sight so i ddint even bother since they dont do much in the long term, youre only losing 2 creatures a turn at most so its not very effective. Sweeper punishers like blood artist are ok just for the finisher capability not for the syncergy ends up with 18 sac dorks in the tuned list, with heavy room for improvement like with token engines or further recursive creatures.

im in the middle of building her - im concerned too with the big bombs and consistency (i wanna dismantle my greasefang vehicles and use them here). do you have a decklist?
@mofomiko

Also there are some things wrong here. Biggest one: Powerstones can only be used for Artifact Spells and Abilites. While she provides ramp, she does so only for Artifacts - she clearly needs to have traditional Rocks, so you convert her stones into ramp for you token strategy. "Ive made zombies with her 2 times, and never seen enemy ashnods do it either. so zombie tribal is not good" - first there seems to be a contradtiction in the first sentence. and how does that equate to the conclusion in the second? Also, how does one powerstone per turn equate to infinite mana, if you dont play those things at all?

@@mofomikoPowerstones can be used for a lot more than artifact spells and abilities. As long as it’s not a nonartifact spell, you’re good to go. You’re still right about not being able to use it to pay Commander Tax, though, since that’s part of casting a nonartifact spell.

I'm surprised you didn't mention reassembling Skelton, or Phyrexian Weatherlight, it gets counters when creatures die and let's you scy when it's not a creature and is very cheap for budget decks
