Fun fact Amazon only survived as abusines because they moved away from owning inventory of books! Re-selling novels is a pocket change hustle. If you're going to sell books sell art books (coffee table books), text books or relevant tech books at least with those books you'd make $5-$100 profit and not $1-$10. Time is money!!
I worked at a Dollar Tree in Jackson WY. I was a cashier and every week on the same day of the week a guy came in and bought hundreds of books. His cart would always be full of them. After about his third visit I asked him, whay do you do with them all. He said he resold them on Ebay, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, etc and made 1000's of dollars a month. Some he kept or gave as gifts but most he sold!
@@WBKnoblock One of my friends who had a warehouse like yours,,,also worked for Hollywood in the mask making dept,, he was that good. So clutter is not always a bad thing.
@Karen Morris I seen "Awakened" by P.C. and Kristen Cast inside those Books! They were a very popular Book Series, and the Movie Rights to the Books were also purchased by a Movie Producer to make a movie about them. I was shocked to see that book in that store! I have the whole series, and I love those books!
A side note: If your business doesn't meet the $2000 monthly threshold, Payability will automatically reject your application. So don't waste your time if you're not at that level. THEY WILL ASK FOR PROOF.
Yeah there's also a $40/month fee to be an amazon seller as well as $10/month for the profit bandit app after 20 free scans. That's why it pays to do your own research.

Hey Walter, interesting video. I'm looking for the connection here. You spoke of Payability, but where does that come into play? You scan the titles for selling price, you purchase the books, you ship to Amazon. How does Payability fit in and how do you get paid by them? Thanks!
@@normac9931 that's not true, I sell high volume and they're a lifesaver, especially since dipping out of my personal funds to do business stuff is a bad habit.
For those that seem to be insta-hating on this, I have a question: Have you even run a business? Asking an honest question, not trying to flame. Because I have. 2 weeks waiting for payment for something you sold, is 2 weeks that money isn't working for you. Let me break down some math for you about exponential growth. Granted, this is going to be a bit of a simplification, but it'll show it's potential. And part of that is going to be only referring to 1 "item" when in fact you'd quickly diversify, to meet more needs and increase overall sales. Also, the starting point will be enough resources for 1 item. So, if you have an item that you can reliably sell every single day. But, lets just say, for argument's sake, that you can only sell ONE of those items per day. And lets say that's a 100$ item. And that the item costs $10 to acquire. Also I'm not going to factor in most of the fees, as that changes regularly, but I'll include the 2% knock off from Payability to show how a small percentage to increase turn around can be beneficial. If you have to wait 2 weeks before getting your money, the cycle will look like this. Day 1 Acquire 1 item, Sell 1 item, Day 2 - 13: waiting for money, nothing acomplished Day 14: paycheck received from Amazon 100 Day 14: 90$ profit, can afford 10 Items now If you get your money the next day after a sale, the cycle will look like this. Day 1 Acquire 1 item, Sell 1 item Day 2 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 9 Items bought[-90], 1 item sold, 8$ Day 3 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 106$ Day 4 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 204$ Day 5 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 302$ Day 6 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 400$ Day 7 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 492$ Day 8 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 590$ Day 9 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 688$ Day 10 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 4 Items bought[-40], 1 item sold, 696$ Day 11 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 794$ Day 12 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 892$ Day 13 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 990$ Day 14 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 1 item sold, 1088$ So, between those two: On day 14 with option one would would have all 100 of your hard earned dollars... congratulations. You paid nothing extra, you kept a tight grip on your money. But with option two, because you were able to increase turn around time, on day 14 you had $1,088 in your pocket (even after paying the fees and having to buy more stock) That's nearly 11x the money. Now, for extra fun, lets say you found a local item that is absolutely HOT! As in, you can't keep it in stock, no matter what you do. They sell as quickly as you get them. And, Yes, this type of thing does happen from time to time with some trends. Especially if you can buy it locally where it's abundant and probably under appreciated, and then sell it online where those dying to find one can get their mitts on it. Think Furby, Tickle Me elmo, etc. Yes, they're fads, and will puff out eventually, but in the mean time you can make SERIOUS bank. So, for this one, I'm going to everything the same as I did with option 2, except, constant sales. Day 1 Acquire 1 item, Sell 1 item Day 2 Money received +$98 (2$ to payability fee), 9 Items bought[-90], 9 item sold, 8$ Left Day 3 Money received +$882 (18$ to payability fee), 89 Items bought, 89 item sold, 0$ Left Day 4 Money received +$8722 (178$ to payability fee), 872 Items bought, 872 item sold, 2$ Left Day 5 Money received +$85,456 (1,744$ to payability fee), 8,546 Items bought, 8,546 item sold, 8$ Left Day 6 Money received +$837,508 (17,092$ to payability fee), 83,751 Items bought, 83,751 item sold, 6$ Left Day 7 Money received +$8,207,598 (167,502$ to payability fee), 820,760 Items bought, 820,760 item sold, 4$ Left Day 8 Money received +$80,434,480 (1,641,520$ to payability fee), 8,043,448 Items bought, 8,043,448 item sold, 4$ Left Day 9 Money received +$788,257,904 (16,086,896$ to payability fee), 78,825,790 Items bought, 78,825,790 item sold, 4$ Left Day 10 Money received +$7,724,927,420 (157,651,580$ to payability fee), 772,492,742 Items bought, 772,492,742 item sold, 4$ Left Day 11 Money received +$75,704,288,716 (1,544,985,484$ to payability fee), 7,570,428,872 Items bought, 7,570,428,872 item sold, 0$ Left Day 12 Money received +$741,902,029,456 (15,140,857,744$ to payability fee), 74,190,202,945 Items bought, 74,190,202,945 item sold, 6$ Left Day 13 Money received +$7,270,639,888,610 (148,380,405,890$ to payability fee), 727,063,988,861 Items bought, 727,063,988,861 item sold, 6$ Left Day 14 Money received +$71,252,270,908,378 (1,454,127,977,722$ to payability fee), 0 Items bought, 0 item sold, $71,252,270,908,384 Left Now, before you say anything about this, NO this isn't something I find very likely to happen[with returns measured in trillions within 2 weeks]. And it's never happened to me to this extent. There does come a plateau point at some point along the line.I mean otherwise, day 11 represents every single person on this plant buying 1 on that day. This is just what is THEORETICALLY possible, based on exponential growth. Basically at some point either you're going to run out of the item/ resource, or everyone's going to have what they need and not need / want anymore. [which is why diversifying is so important for long term goals] But what this DOES illustrate is the power of exponential growth. The real numbers for what are likely to happen, are far less, I'm sure. But, I'm even more confident that the real numbers are, in fact, much higher than option 1. Because the money is constantly growing steadily instead of quick spurts. Also, because I know how comments sections are, I have no connection to payability. Nor this channel. But I do intend on looking into payability in the future to see if it's something that'd fit into my own specific workflow situation. If it's not, I won't use it. I'm just saying, don't disregard things without actually looking at them, and factoring in the big picture. You're doing yourself a big disservice. Failure to do so is why the majority of small businesses fail within the first couple years. Yet I've managed to keep mine going for almost 13 years.
So helpful! I just got approved yesterday and have been sourcing. Excited to start. I didn't think I could do it but you're so encouraging. Once I get on my feet and have some extra cash I'm definitely going to be a supporter of your channel! You're awesome!
I’m cracking up because I am a book reader and I recently told my coworker that I have been buying books from there for a dollar. I was impressed they had a lot of hardback books.
Ever purchased one that was signed by the Author?? I still have several brand new books that were signed by the author. I almost returned a couple one time, because I already had a copy in my collection, but I realized at the last second they were the wrong books. In truth they were some of the few that I had not looked inside and noticed that they were signed. The cashier's eyes lit up for a few seconds, until I quickly retracted and then brought the unsigned versions back. LOL... There was a time several years ago, when I used to buy about 2-5 new books every time I went into the $$ tree... I ended up with at least 1000 books. The total number of books I bought filled more than 35 boxes and more than 95% of the books were hard back books. Most of the boxes were those large boxes that hold 10-12 reams of paper for your printer, like when you buy in bulk/by the case, from Staples or any other office supply store. My boxes were slightly nicer and a little larger, but similar to that style of box. More than a third of a large moving truck had boxes of books, with at least 90% that I purchased at the $$ store. About 12 years ago, I came up with this same idea... While in college; I used to buy my textbooks online and then sell them back to the campus bookstore for more money than they cost online. Or I would sell them online if the bookstore's buy back price was too low. That's how I funded my book/textbook buying during my undergraduate programs and even my Master's program. I was doubling and tripling how much I spent on my college textbooks. Doing this, and then filling my addictive need to buy more books all the time at the && store, made me think about whether people were buying and then selling them online... and at the time I found no one that was doing it, but it worked if you were willing to take the time and get serious doing it. Anyone remember or ever use Half.com?? I've bought and primarily sold tons of books that way... I first learned about half.com, about a year or two after it first opened. My sister knew someone that I helped for a short time, selling tons of books there. He had thousands and thousands of books. It was as if the main library of a decent sized city, was moving to a different location, and all the books were stacked ready to be boxed, and some of them were already boxed, and then they were just left there unmoved. The space they filled was easily 2000 SqFt. & from 6-8' high of nothing but books. He had no idea how many were there or what books we might find. That was why I was helping. It was nothing but pure heaven for a bibliophile like me. :-D
Justin Taylor that’s funny. I remember buying books cheaper at a different University for lower price and selling them back for more after class. Back then internet was not as accessible like today. I am unsure about the authors signatures, I will check go forward. I don’t know if I will sell my books maybe those books I have more than one copy. I met someone that has 28k books I was jealous. The movers thought I was joking about the boxes of books. They were not happy because I put fragile on the boxes. Most women get excited about shopping. I get excited about looking for books. I have purchased from half.com and alibris.com
If you can't wait two weeks for a paycheck you aren't managing your money- your money is managing YOU. I would NEVER give 2% of my hard earned cash up to some random middle man just so I can get paid the day after a sale. Don't use Payability people. (That's the only problem I have with this video that really jumps out at me)
@@WBKnoblock Then they should make it a point to learn to how to save because learning how to spend is easy. I know roughly half of Americans don't have a $1000 saved which is just sad.
Depends tho. I'mo I'd wait for the 100 in 2 weeks. But if I could get 10 real fast, make 30 off of it. 50 +100. But if I had money to start off with then I wouldnt have that problem. So i only see that service as a once time use.

I got a regular who comes in for books 🤣 90% of the time we know, we just dont care because it's one less thing we have to clean up or recover 🤷♀️🤷♀️
I would be would kinda surprised/upset if someone did care, I mean the store still makes money every time he comes in, what should it matter what he does with products he purchased.
@Melanie G I'm not disagreeing. We get certain buyout items from big box stores that still hold shelf value elsewhere., i was just trying to be funny. I'm the closing shift assistant manager in a high volume store and if someone wants to come in and buy it all I wouldn't even blink; my responsibilities are mostly recovery and cleaning up the store though and the more people buy the less I have to clean up before truck day!. what other people do with their money and how they make that money aint my business❤
@@WBKnoblock I'm sure it varies from title to title but how long doea it usually take to sale a book you send in to Amazon. And can you elaborate on storage fees Amazon charges to keep items that dont sale after 30 to 60 days? Thanks

After you are an Amazon seller, you will be able to log in and use UPS with Amazon's rates -- a great deal for sure but something to be considered. Amazon has LOTS of warehouses and you might have 50 books and 40 of them go to one warehouse and the other 10 are spread out between 3 or 4 warehouses. There are all kinds of ways to work around that but, mainly, if you don't have enough product to make a decent sizes shipment you are going to be paying more. Not a naysayer. Amazon can turn some good money but you have to pay attention and know what you are doing -- read all of the online training and such because, otherwise you won't make any money and will have lots of troubles -- and don't forget, Amazon can kick you off, forever, without any explanation so you are always playing by their rules -- so you better know them. I don't think it is nearly as easy as it used to be to make money with retail arbitration.
@@skysthelimitforeveryoung3437 There's added fees he didn't bring up either. $40/ month for an amazon seller account and profit bandit is $10/ month after 20 free scans. Every book I've looked up so far I'd be negative in profit. Just a heads up.

Some have engineered both together making it work for them. Don't rag on Mr. Walters' because YOU DO NOT like his idea, others may, and others may even try it out for themselves. It is somebody's 'Cup of Tea', just not yours. It would depend on what types of books YOU are sourcing. For me, I mostly am sourcing more valuable books from thrift stores so I make about $25-$50 per book and how many I sell in any given time period is based on how many profitable books I’ve found over the past 6 months, the sales rank of those books, what frequency I’ve listed them at, and how much above the lowest price I asking, if any number at all. If YOU put in the effort, you can easily make several thousand dollars a month, but it requires a plan and for that plan to be executed effectively.

Curious, do you ONLY sell books as ‘New,’ never ‘Like New’? Wondering because I buy a lot of books at used book stores (and also thinking of those remainder books from Dollar Tree). Also, for smaller sellers would it be more profitable to ship books on your own, or do you recommend always using the Amazon storage & shipping?
here's one big problem, the books sell on amazon for 5 dollars sometimes, and they even include free shipping. It aint like you get full retail price for the book when somebody else is selling it for 5 dollars, even if you fulfill yourself, by the time you pay shipping you may make 2 dollars, that is on the prayer somebody wants that book. If you could sell it for retail it may work, but not this way
