And they do come also heads only! How good is that? You can do fitting with ”similar” heads at your near clubsmith and figure out the best shaft to order!
I love the way you guys acknowledge and in effect, support, the smaller companies by taking a good long look at their products. This is a very nice looking club.
Great review guys! I felt like Ian was talking to me. I'm 35 and hasn't golfed since HS. Unfortunately just became a widower and my friends have been taking me golfing as therapy. I LOVE it. I made a set out of clubs they let me poach out of the lost and found until I can get back on my feet and buy my own set. I think these just shot to the top of my list. You guys are the best. Thanks for keeping my mind occupied.
Totally agree! A TXG product comparison between DTC ‘niche’ manufacturers and the branded products would be ideal for amateur golfers to get their thinking and budget around. Food for thought guys?
Great review guys! Ian as usually just hits the cleanest strikes, the sound is wonderful and so smooth. Keep them going boys, good to see you two making the content :) Jeremy
Hopefully companies like Takomo find success. It’s good to know that there are very well made clubs at a less expensive option is available for the casual golfer. Keep the content coming guys. And as always , great review.
I first want to say I watch all of your videos and find them some of the best on the internet. Based on your review of these clubs, I decided to give these a try. I'm a 7 handicap and have been playing the Mizuno MP20 mmc irons for about 1 1/2 years. I play about 250-260 rounds per year and change my clubs frequently. Just took these into the simulator at my club and OMG are they unbelievable. Not the softest but a great feel, accuracy and wow the distance. Good spin and the launch is perfect. I would recommend these to anyone wanting new clubs that doesn't want to take out a small mortgage for a quality set of irons. Keep up the good work Matt and Ian.
You described me to a tee… lol. Taylormade oversize irons, rifle shaft from 1997. Back into golf 3 years ago but now I’m single figures and play Mizuno JPX 919 Tour irons. Was wondering about the 301 CB from these guys actually…
ordered the 101s in part because of this video (and others)...you guys described me perfectly, getting back into the game after about 15 years away...i used to custom fit about 20 years ago but got refit for Pings with the new fitting technology...saw this and took my fitting to this company for about $500 less...they took awhile to get here and we're snowed in but they look great and i can't wait for spring!!
Agreed! I just purchased a set of the Maltby TS-1 irons custom built to my exact spec from Golfworks for $600. I’d love to see them get some love here with a review.
@@tke2414 They’re awesome. Consistency and control are as good as anything out there. Very similar to Apex Pros or P770s and lots of folks would argue they perform better than both.
I have a set ordered and I’m so glad to finally see a review of these with launch monitor numbers. This is the first video I’ve seen of these with any kind of detailed review. Thanks guys!
was able to put an order in about 20 minutes ago.. 3 up and an inch longer.. any feedback from you two now that you've had them for a while? I gotta wait till December to get these, but I can't wait!
These seem to be exactly what I am looking for to replace my Ci9 iron set! Any info on when the draw is planned for? Otherwise, I might head to their site & take a look. Thanks for the chance to win!
Did you use the x-stiff, stiff or regular version in this test?! (My swing speed is in the tail-end of yours.) Similar swing as well. Probably going to place an order with the specs you are using. Would be grateful if you could answer this question, mate. 😊
In the market for a new set of clubs to replace my Adams Pro A12.....The TXG gents' reviews convinced me to give @Sub70Golf a look. Currently waiting for my 639 combo set to arrive.
Are we entered for the irons just by commenting?(I hope so). I love your channel. I played my first golf when I was a kid (1970’s) and have always had to use used clubs and, unfortunately, usually pretty beat up. Keep up the great work!
I am currently awaiting my new set of 101 irons, custom specs and left handed. I've had Takomo on my radar for the better part of 1 1/2 years and saw and read enough reviews to be a confident buyer. As a lefty who lives in a major city and still can't walk into a golf store and physically put hands on more than two or three sets of lefty irons(drivers selection not muchbetter)let alone hit them before buying these direct to consumer companies and their price points are a godsend! I simply will not order 1500-2000 irons without trying them...but I will take a shot at highly rated Takomo for 500.00! Top mfg.'s take note!!!
I'd love to change my irons to a unified set, currently playing with Wilson half set completed later with odd pair of Pinseekers and mixed set of wedges... These Takomo irons look good and price is right there for the average club golfer, nice
Thanks for the great video. Two recommendations: first, you should review Gigagolf irons. Have a combo set of the blade and muscle back irons and love them. Second, you should do a direct to consumer head to head test. Would love to know how they all compare.
Is there anyone who's not afraid to say that these clubs are on par with a low-end K-Mart set? ...terrible irons. I have a set of Adams A2OS (circa 2006). They are head and shoulders better than the Takomo 101 irons I bought to replace them. Difficult lesson learned. Unless you can hold and swing it a few times, don't bother. And Takomo clubs are essentially unreturnable. (Read the return policy for yourself) I'm not surprised, given the non-playability.
This is definitely the way I am going for my next irons, direct to consumer is the future of golf buying, absolutely beautiful looking clubs, thanks for the review
I was wondering what to do with my old set of shafts so I ordered the heads after seeing this. For $300 + $50 shipping, can’t go wrong! For a second set, they look great. Thanks for the review and I’ll let you know how they work out.
Which is the better DTC hollow body set of clubs between Takomo, Next Level, Haywood, Ben Hogan? Based on feel, distance, forgiveness and build quality.
These clubs are Made in China and are complete trash. Yes, they sound amazing, but they don't add distance or control. They're exactly the same as my old clubs EXCEPT, they bend at the head after about thirty to fifty swings. So far, it's the PW and the 7i, but I have no doubt that this is simply because those are my two most used clubs. Given the same number of swings, I have no doubt that the other clubs will start bending backwards at the hossel, or however you spell it. This was done with clean, ball first contact shots. Clubs were extended one inch and one degree upright.
Ordered a set immediately after watching the video. I was fit for a set of t100s irons last September and paid 2k for them. Taking lessons from Golftec and my swing has changed dramatically. I lost 8mph with my new swing but much more accurate. Hoping these will fill the gap until my swing speed improves. Seems too good to be true. I will update after receiving my irons from Takoma.
Looks like a nice set of Irons and respect to TXG for supporting this new company with a non-patronising honest review. It's not the usual TXG Competition Prize (Private Jet and a night with Paige S etc etc) but hey I could do with a new set of toys!
I went ahead and purchased a set of these to give them a chance after watching your video. Should be receiving them within a week. Thank you for the review and share!
I like the way they look.. would love to try them out.. backordered to June.. they must be a good product if their sold out.. my current irons are from 2012.. thanks for the great vids guys..
Excellent review guys, these irons look amazing and seem to perform just as well as they look. I currently have an old set of Ben Sayers M2 irons. After a while out of golf (due to career/family) I have decided to get back into it and as you can imagine this video has really resonated with me! Keep up the good work. I will definitely be entering the competition!
The back order isn’t bad at all. Titleist Europe are almost 12wks delayed currently and if you want clubs with Dynamic Golf shafts then good luck as I’m told no manufacturer can get shafts off them currently. I’ve got some ZipCore wedges on order with Modus 105 shafts. Hoping I’ll get them in a few weeks
Can't believe there isn't any "click"...for that price I thought for sure we'd really hear the hit. Great review gentlemen!! And Thx for always sharing with us!!
Those are some pretty clean looking irons. Direct to consumer market reminds me of back in the day when you could order components and build a set from Golfsmith
