$49 and a whole lot of extra work when I got an $85 Badlands 2,500lbs wrench that came with a wireless remote on sale for $68, a 100ft nylon rope, an 8ft 2x12 and a handful of nuts and bolts. I used my drill to bolt it all together, slapped all that above my joists in the garage, and bam! A powered wench hoist that supports more than 10x the weight of the hard top for the low price of about $95. Way easier and quicker than this.

Hey thanks Doug, did you by any chance get our Text Notification? When do you plan on getting a Gladiator? We are at almost 19K miles and just shy of owning it 12 months, it’s been bizarre spending SO MUCH on fuel and travel, but a blast overall!

Awesome, glad to hear. What trim did you get and what’s the plans for it? We are about to possibly do some TOTALLY WILD stuff to ours for SEMA 2020 with the goal of selling it in the fall and then starting from scratch with another Gladiator.

Got the same lift for my kayak. Rope weren't long with because of the tall ceiling. But 550 cord fixed that.

Looking for a better solution too. Most people who have a gladiator won't have the rhino rack, so figuring out how to hook to just top is a problem...

I use that same pully system for my bikes. Not sure I would trust them for my Gladiator hardtop but definitely an interesting and thought provoking video.

Very cool, you have made my search easier. I do have a question though, is it ok to pull up using the roof rack? Does it put stress at the attachment point to the fiberglass roof?

Well, that is the concern, however the attachments SANDWHICH the hardtop, so the only issue might be the weight of it hanging down. Definitely gonna figure something else out.

I used the same set up on my JKU, however with the JT there is no place to hook it on the back. You have the rack which you used, but for the standard hardtop I'm not sure how you would hook to the back?

Well, in another video they used the holes that the hard top uses to bolt down, they used those to make loops and then attached the straps to the loops. You could also put a 2x4 or something under the rear and attach that. Not sure. Let me know if you come up with something that works.

Jarid Shunk they don’t make anything for the Gladiator yet though. Been waiting on Garage Smart to finish their Gladiator power hard top, so we can use that. But not everyone is gonna spend that much...

I used the MaxxTow MaxxHaul Worm Gear Hand Winch - 25' Wire Rope - 2,000 lbs, which cost me $51 with tax. I like the worm gear for safety and the ability to store long term on the hoist. Besides I can use it for many other things heavier than the Gladiator hard top.

so much easier to use a cordless drill with socket on worm gear hoist to lift/lower the roof without using two sets of ropes.

The real issue with leaving a top hanging is if it is being supported from underneath. When you do it this way, the weight of the top will cause the bottom to spread. I don't see how this would happen on a Gladiator.

Yeah, long term this isn’t the ideal situation. Better to make some sort of brackets from 2x4’s or whatever to elevate the hard top from. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Jason, if it works, who cares right? Honestly there’s a few tweaks that need to be done, but this will work for now. New MINI DREAM GARAGE, in a perfect world I would just raise the truck on my 2 post hoist, hook up some chains or ropes and then lower the truck 😆 Almost finally done with getting the financing wrapped up. $30,000 doesn’t go very far!

The roof flew off going roughly 97MPH anyway and is pretty smashed along the bottom on backside along the cab by the bed. Could care less what the hoist looked like, it worked. Thanks for the feedback, some people want to see cheap options.
