I'm calling it right now. Life happens and 20 years from now those marginal Sam's cabinets will be silently and proudly standing there doing their job.
Glad to see I ain’t the only loon to save big sheets of cardboard, foam blocks, corner protectors, etc.. Useful stuff for large templates / CAD, moving / packing equipment, modeling / molding fiberglass projects, floor protectors, on and on…
You hit a Grand Slam home run young Lady !!!!! Those cabinets and boxes will last you many years and still look good and will continue to serve you well !!!! I love them and I have used some similar to these for 25 years in my personal shop. I am a 73 year old retired surface coal mine, field heavy equipment mechanic, with 43 years of service. I even had Craftsman boxes on my service truck. They did the job with no problems. Thank you for sharing your journey (life ) , Alex !!! Please continue to be careful and may God continue to bless you and your family !!!! Eddy. ( from Virginia)
Thats a hell of a good purchase. Start cheaper and upgrade as needed. Those cabinets will probably be there 30 years from now a little beat up but still kickin ass and probably covered in stickers!
@mikeburnett7028 I paid 10k for the biggest tool box Snap-on had in 1991, and my sons got one bigger and paid less. That's what Lowes, Harbor freight and others can do to the price. Although it's like Dennis said, you pay for the construction and the name!
That'd a great deal for the money spent. One large Snap On tool chest would cost that or more. Shops looking great, add more to it and you have a totally professional shop.
Alex, in 1962 when i started swinging wrenches, a good friend, who was a Chevrolet service manager told me - "a good mechanic always has parts left"! - so since you had parts left your either good or like the IKEA comnercial, where the coffee table falls over! ha I agree with Dennis, for what your going to use them for, they are great! I wish my sister helped me, back when, 1/2 as much as yours does, GO Megan!!!!!!!🎉 🎉🎉
"If you have parts left over and it still works. You didn't need them after all and now you have spares." Is what dad always said he was a Retired US Mil Diesel Mechanic.
4K is a great price for all of those cabinets!! The cardboard and Styrofoam would be awesome for our Reptarium. We use that kind of stuff to make rocks, snake hides, water bowls........ There are so many things you can do with that. We're a small non-profit Reptile Rescue and Educational Center so we cut cost wherever we can. 🐍🐍 Love your videos.
The cabinet set looks good. Dennis was enjoying demoing it all. You can tell he's slept some since drag and drive week (I felt for the poor guy at the end of that.) The whole Taylor crew never fails to impress and cause a few laughs. Many thumbs up.
The word you were looking for to define your reluctance to throw away the cardboard is pragmatic. My wife and son say I'm OCD about stuff like that but when they need something I usually have it. I wouldn't worry about the cabinets cuz even when your having to move them around to finish the shop you won't be tripping over stuff on the floor.
I at the age where I appreciate the effort companies put into their packaging. Nobody wants to deal with damaged-upon-arrival products. Plus, that stuff makes good mock-up material! Win-win-win!
You made the correct choice not buying snap on. That's coming from someone that's spent 50-60k with them. Tools are one thing IF you make a living with them. But cabinets, all that left over $ can be spent in way more useful places like AC 😁.
My wife always says that you can never have enough useful spaces to put things in! And keys...you either need a space just for all of them or a big-arse key chain!
I like the cabinets. Styrofoam blocks are good for holding items when spray painting. You can never go wrong with cardboard, sometimes I prefer them over a garage creeper and for painting.
I will say that once they are all attached together and some heavier items on the bottom shelves and weights distributed as you go top shelves it will strengthen up for sure,,,great bonus with styro,, cardboard,,hardware,,,😅 Thanks guys,,fun stuff,!
Working out on the side of the road will never be same again o man I miss a garage and tool box when I'm out helping others in the dirt just isn't the same anymore I wine cry digging through tools but still get stuff done thankfully lol 😂
Their fine , they do the same job as a set for a hundred thousand dollars. Your getting there just keep going. Iam patiently wait for you to race! You the best!
You girls know how to torment dear old dad! 😊 Put some sound deadening matt on the doors. A suggestion, for what it is worth. Good to hear Megan putting her opinion, and helping put the cabinets together!
There is a sticky backed HVAC Duct wrap that you can line areas on the cabinet interior to reduce the tinny sound and feel. Take a look at Lowes, Menards or Home Depot. You HVAC guy might be able to get you some also. I like tha look of the new cabinets.
Keep all the keys in the locks so you can lock and unlock them any time. They are more of a safety then security thing so if something fell it wouldn’t knock the door open. Well that’s what I believe lol.
The cardboard would be great template material , the cabinets are great and should be much more rigid when bolted together , too cool , thanks for the update .
I have those in Black...worth every penny!! I placed 3/4" plywood on the top to spread the weight I have a few hundred Lbs on top. I also bolted to my wall.
Pro tip: once installed and to your liking. Work a few weeks on some cars. You'll make some final changes. After those: label your cabinets and drawers so people helping you can find stuff instead of asking everything to you. Efficiency is key in a shop!
That’s a good deal and they look nice. I paid more than that for 1 side cabinet on my box. The sides and back will be less flimsy once the shelves are in. Especially with the cheaper ones everything is structural so the shelves are part of the bracing. One of the good things is not feeling bad about covering a cheap box/cabinet with stickers and stuff.
Young lady, from what began looking like [it] could be a big barber shop, now we know it's an...auto racing shop. Your shop cabinets give it, some character.
Those New Age Cabinets are nice. I have a set in my garage. Same color too. Once all the cabinets are anchored to the wall, that become incredibly stable. These are storage cabinets not tool boxes so they shouldn't be compared to Snap On. They look great. Congrats.
Girl, I just went to Sam’s and I was looking at those for my shop how funny. I think they’re worth it. Just take care of them. They’ll last a long time.
Those cabinets look great, and I think 30ft is longer than my entire workshop! When you get around to doing the wall, repurpose the pegboard to fill the gaps above the counters but all the way to the floor. They're really useful for hanging stuff from, obviously, but they'll stop stuff disappearing down the back of the counters too!
Alex if you install foam board with foil inside the doors and such with construction grade adhesive, they will firm up great! I did that with office cabinets for my boss. He could not believe it was the same cabinet.
Omg every time I see you working with your dad and your family members one project or fun stuff. Make my wish thing where different from me and my family back when I was 18 years old I am 52 now . Because of what happened way back then in that year of 1991 to to the end of 1992 forever changed or family for every. Now I know there is over 500 new family members and I do even know what the OG 20 or doing or if they or a live any more only way we every find out about family stuff is Facebook now just so sad on are part . But so jealous of what yall are doing hun . I know you and your family with remember this for every hun so so happy to see this in the world to day . Thank you .❤❤❤❤❤
I have been wanting them for a looong time. As long as they dont colapse in use.. dont matter. They hold junk.. so success. Put snap-off stickers in them if it makes you feel better. Lol
Keep the useful parts of the packaging. That's certainly well packaged. Hard corners are awesome for shipping boxes. For $4k that's a great deal. You can always upgrade in the future. Edit: I would put the wide cabinet in the middle of the 2 narrow ones. Then it will be more symmetrical. That's a great looking setup. Edit2: It's pretty common for those cabinets to use the same key, Consider that lock to be there just so the doors don't fall open. (they're also dirt cheap and not secure anyway)
Go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and get a few rolls of Peel and Seal in the roofing section and put strips here and there on the cabinet and doors and they will loose most of the “tin” sound.
A couple thoughts. To help kill the echo, maybe a few pieces of kill mat slapped on the back of the cabinets and under the shelves? Please please please move the big cabinet between the two smaller ones… it’s driving me crazy! (I know it isn’t my shop, but gahhhhh!) 😂 That really does look like a pretty good deal, I really like them!
For general usage like storing oils, and fluids, detailing supplies, shop towels, helmets, uniforms, cleaning supplies. Maybe some handheld machinery. For your everyday tools maybe get either Snap-on or Icon. The tool boxes on wheels the lighter everyday tools. And only my opinion, I would have put the larger double door cabinet on the left end so all the smaller double door cabinets would be together and make a little better balance on the appearance. Again only my 2 cents. Otherwise it all looks good!!
Nice! Alex! the cabinets are real nice! I just got the notification on your last video I'll watch it soon. sonic has flavored water packets and they taste just as good they just got them in stores up here last week! thanks for the videos!
I think the Same way when i get materials from Shipping anyone else just throws it Away... if you put the Largest cabinet in the middle of the 2 smaller it would look more Balanced!
I always keep large cardboard I like to put on top of the workbench when working on greasy or oily projects. I would put the bigger cabinet all the way left or 2nd from left, maybe a little more balanced.
Instead of having cabinets with snapon all over them, turn them into ATR cabinets. Take the money you saved and customize them the way you want/need them to be
That's a crazy good deal! I bought my biggest tool box ever, which rivals Snap On's of the same size, almost 20 years ago; custom color, custom color handles, custom reverse spinner wheels, my own drawer configuration, stainless top, (when I change residences, it has to be hauled on a roll back tow truck or my 21' car trailer). I had it made for me by Matco Tools, and I paid $6400 cash (the Snap On box of the same size was like $10,000.
I just did approximately 30’ of lateral file cabinets in my shop. Along with a couple other drawer type cabinets really helps with the organization. I’ve came to believe shelves hide and collect things. But,I didn’t get any cool styrofoam blocks
I will definitely buy a shirt with your dads saying on it , promise so as soon as there made let everyone know, I think they will sell out real quick !!!!!!!!
You saved a ton of $$$ and the cabinets and boxes will do the same, regardless of brand. I've got nearly $100k in tools and equipment, yet I use a set of Husky brand boxes and cabinets. No problems and I've had them for years. If you want a snap-on box, buy it used, but you'll never get as much room as you did with that set if you'd purchased Snap-on, Marco or Cornwell
Find a retail display store in your area & buy slatwall, much more durable than pegboard, better variety of accessory options, available in multiple colors & finishes. Probably cheaper as well, a 4' x 8' sheet was under $30 a few years ago, don't know about current situation. It can be found used from defunct stores, but that's a better way to find cheap brackets & accessories than the sheets themselves. Good luck on your new shop!
Use that cardboard to glue acoustic tiles or foam to, for sound deadening in podcast room or shop, that way you can move them around with out ruining any paint work.
Hay Alex, just throwing this out there. when I come across a nice sheet of cardboard, I use them to lay them on the floor when working on my cars so I'm not laying on the concrete or outside on the dirt.
You can: order 3 or 4 work rolling carts with A brand tools for tools you hold alot. 1 for dad, 1 for your guy, 1 for you. And perhaps 1 for your mother/sister/spare one?
I have the new age pro series 130" long cabinets in black and grey which are a thicker gauge steel and bigger but for the price are amazing....congratulations
Damn those are some nice cabinets, how come auntie didn't tell me about them??? 😂 You should put the big two door cabinet in the middle between the two smaller ones, that will make it look way more symmetrical!
