Generally speaking you won't find street food carts in the main streets of Chinese cities. They cause sanitation and traffic issues. So you need to dive into small streets and markets that locals going. Kuan and Zhai alleys are very touristic. Locals avoid them as everthing is overpriced. The sauce of the sticky rice balls is melt brown sugar and water. it's called " three rounds of cannon" as they are thrown to a table to make noise. I personally like it very much. The wooden fish you saw in the temple is common in buddhist temples of China. It's hit to make noise when meal is ready as signal of meal time.

Many liquids are colorless and transparent, and it's difficult for the naked eye to distinguish what kind of liquid it is, such as sulfuric acid. Even if a container appears empty, there might still be residual liquid or gas in it. If someone with malicious intent were to exploit this, it could lead to disastrous consequences in just minutes, resulting in vehicle destruction and loss of life. So, although it might seem like a waste of time, it's better to understand and comply, as it is ultimately for safety reasons.

Shannon was right, tea originated from Chengdu and in fact the Brits loved Chinese tea so much in the 19th century that they were importing so much of it causing a trade imbalance that they could not afford...then came the bright idea of 2 Scotsman (William Jardine and James Matheson) to smuggle drugs (Opium) into China to pay for their Chinese tea. About why they scanned your water before u enter the subway, the staff have to make sure the liquid in your bottle is not oil or some chemical solute which may cause fire or personal injury.

That turtle you said "without a shell" was actually a softshell turtle, their appearance is as its name suggests. And when they stretch their leg upwards like that it indicates that they are basking, they stretch their skin to increase the surface area so that more UVB from the sunlight can be absorbed.
