Amazon definitely has the movers advantage, but with every factor you listed about Walmart and their amount of Capital, Physical locations, 2.2M employees, and the amount of allies they’ve gained from Amazon creating enemies, they can catch up pretty damn quick on the e-commerce side of the market that just keeps growing. If Wal Mart turns some of their 11,000 stores into fulfillment centers and adds 250,000 delivery drivers primarily focused on delivering groceries to customers’ houses within 30min - 1 hr, I think that’s can catapult them head or at least hugely eat away at Amazon’s lead over them.. Amazon better stay sharp, now is not the time to start getting fat on their profits, as long as they’ve held off on rewarding themselves, they knew who they were competing with when they got into this game and they better keep that respect, which I’m sure they will.. very excited to see how this unfolds

As a former Wal-Mart employee and current Amazon employee I can let you in on something. Just put on your resume that you are a former Wal-Mart employee and that alone gets you into an Amazon fulfillment center. Half of our crew are former Wal-Mart employees at my fulfillment center alone. Wal-Mart over the years treated their employees like dog shit, and while Amazon will ride you hard they pay tops in the industry and have numerous of programs to help you. So many of those 650k employees at Amazon are quite familiar with the inner workings of Wal-Mart. Just at my facility alone I know a couple former store assistants.

I think it will end in a stalemate. Why? Because each one is attempting to become the other. Both excel in one area and both struggle in an area in which their competitor excels. Concisely, as Shawn Michaels said to Diesel back in the day, they are best friends, but even better enemies. With heavy hitters backing Walmart for what seems to be "the lesser of two evils" reasoning, this is remarkably similar to the Bluray vs HD DVD format war that took place about 15 years ago. Sony was the main proponent of Bluray while Toshiba pushed HD DVD. It was a pretty even race for dominance until certain studios grew tired of them splitting the customer base. So a few heavy hitters (Disney, Warner Bros) decided to side with Bluray simply to guarantee a winner and end said war. However, it was a pyrrhic victory for Bluray as it never caught on as DVD did and streaming has become the format of choice for consumers. Great video and topic. Mr. Nobody from home office.
@_Abjuranax_
@_Abjuranax_ 4 года назад
It seems most new videos are bundled together as Blu-Ray and DVD combos, and sold as a premium package now. Coke and Pepsi dominate the soft drink industry, but you are a major player if you can garner even 2% of the market share against these two giants. But Walmart is still limited by its selection, and you have to give them the volume discounts that they want in order to sell your product through them. And not all manufacturers are capable of doing that. They also have a lot of shrinkage through theft in all of their stores, which affects their bottom line and profitability. But in the long run, Amazon and Walmart will be like the Democrats and Republicans, catering to the public for the almighty votes and Dollars.

I've been saying for quite some time that if Wal-Mart begins using their physical stores as partial fulfillment centers and pairs that with some kind of Uber-like delivery system, they would crush Amazon because Amazon's profit margins on their products are not sustainably priced (as you pointed out, they rely heavily on AWS).

Walmart can soon be a game changer once it gets rid of cashiers. If people can check out with their phones in Walmart just like Sams it will blow away competiion. Walmart struggles with customer service and convenience will trump it. They just need to flip the switch and trust the customers.

Walmart is working their employees to the bones mandatory 6 days a weeks with no breaks.(I have heard that done at certain sites but not the one I worked at). Walmart pays 30 percent less but that may have been my situation they told me. Main reason i left was the money but walmart will catch up so fast it is unfortunate.

The cost of operating 11,300 stores is less profitable. I rarely shop at Walmart. The reason: They hand out state paid healthcare applications with their employment applications. I stopped shopping there when I discovered this. This multi billion dollar business does not pay for their employees health care and puts it on the state. The beginning of high state taxes and more corporate greed.

I work in a Walmart store that is currently building a Micro Fulfillment Center. Set to be operational in 2023. I changed my career specifically to be apart of this innovation. These Micro Fulfillment Centers utilize so little space. Just a guess on my part but in the future MFC’s can be built ANYWHERE. Imagine how many large Urban Centers have no large scale Grocery Stores. Most urban areas have their stores on the outskirts of town or in a strip mall. This maybe the future for large Cities like Atlanta, Miami, Houston anywhere. A 20,000 Square Foot build right in the heart of the city.

It seems in this area, a company looking to compete with Walmart's brick and mortar business model is Dollar General. It would be interesting to see the same comparison of Dollar General vs Walmart. They're currently fighting two fronts. Amazon online and Dollar General at the store front.

Walmart is the brick-and-mortar king due to their unbeatable reach and ability to run a lean operation. Walmart is a few years late to the game, but online grocery shopping is projecting to be big. I think Walmart is entering at a great time and has the infrastructure and pricing to beat out competitors in the market. Good luck to Amazon, Walmart has been building their presence for decades and their current infrastructure can easily serve two functions while Amazon fulfillment centers can't double as a storefront. My money is on Walmart. Time to buy and hold NOW.

@Delta Fox VHS won because back when blank video tapes cost $20-30 each , people could fit 3 movies on one tape vs 2 despite the lower picture quality .

Amazon is working in more countries which is giving them an edge... however, correctly Wallmart has stores to turn Fulfil centre but again need to say how many countries you are working in...

The winner between Amazon and Walmart to some degree will bet determine by the consumers but more importantly fiscal policies. Politicians and the laws they pass decided in favor of Walmart over mom and pop shops and will do the same with Amazon versus Walmart.

I think there is a place for both of them. I've used the Walmart grocery app, and being handicapped, it really made a difference in my life to drive up and have someone to have shopped and load my groceries in the car for me. They picked out beautiful chicken cutlets and very fresh breads and produce. Amazon sells certain items in bulk and I do appreciate the savings, as well as the (mostly) 2 day delivery. If I need something right away, I go out and get it. I have use for both stores. Thanks for the video.

YES please do more of this Patrick!! I absolutely loved this video. It reminds me of the videos you used to do with Tom Ellsworth which is why I subscribed to this channel. Maybe there are more like it and ive just missed them but I just love this format.

If Both will work on their strength than no one can beat them & for me amazon has a competitive edge as Walmart has a more no. of physical store which required capital to run daily operations and required space and manpower and required large investment whereas amazon working smartly through website and online stores and that's the reason as amazon is generating more profit than Walmart and no need to copy each other just innovate business model which can be converted in revenue generation & growth though smart strategy by playing on their strength and for me its a war of profit vs growth.

I think this amount of consumption between the 2 companies is destructive to the earth's environment. I think a major disrupter to both companies is the small business owners who recycle and resell.

One point is missing. Amazon has customers worldwide. Walmart is only famous in the US and failed in many other countries, like germany for example. So getting even bigger and reaching even more customers is clear on the side of Amazon, although i dont like the Company.

Hey what do you think about walmart imvesting in canoo do you know when the delivery date for the vehicles is exepected? I think the fufillment center argument is valid and the use of the canoo vehicles will help walmart fulfill orders and take over thats why they have an agreement with canoo not to sell to amazon. Please give me your take on this! Thank you!

Amazon is more worried about an Anti Trust Law Suit than Wallmart! Someone needs to reel Jeff in, he's like a modern-day Barron.

Amazon has some very smart people. Their shipping speeds are very fast. And PR wise they get a lot for their money. On RU-vid there was a video of Amazon donating 6 large vans full of food to a struggling Animal Shelter. Lots of good PR for relatively little $$$. Walmart has more experience delivering items and already has a more ability to deliver.
