i love those seatpost clamps. they're light!!! also there is something to be said about having a smaller frame and slinging it around. it can be a ton of fun
Love seeing all the higher end options on budget bikes now... wished I had these options when I was getting into bikes. And yeah, on the hydraulic brake comment, MASSIVE difference in feel, especially if you intend to ride one anything with a decline. If anyone is ever one the fence on upgrading, i slapped the Zoom set on, and have zero regrets after a week long trip of hard mountain riding.
I'm kinda late responding but here goes. Last huffy I had Walmart didn't even exist. Single speed, one piece american crank with a fake plastic gas tank. Many years ago. I'm older now. Pounded myself back in shape with a current year stumpjumper evo carbon. Didn't like the 29 inch wheels it came with so converted it to 27.5 and a 165mm crank. also converted it to coil suspension front and back. Really enjoy your channel
It's a decent entry level bike, but for full retail price, I would still pick a Trouvaille over this. A pair of KO tektro hydraulic brakes is well less than $200. Also the trouvaille have an improved fork, tires, a better gear range drive train, and just as annoying internal cable routing.
That's a great looking bike. I like your dissection of the geometry and can't wait to see the strip down and full measurements. As a 19 to 19.5 frame rider, I gasped when you said 15.5 inches for this bike. They have to know who is in their market and be sure to give a one size fits most type of bike. When I bought my Trek 4300 in 2004 the bike shop owner explained how to fit on the bike at least in the frame and crank area. It pays to know these things cause I was about to buy a cheaper bike that was an inch to short. Good stuff sir.
It's cool to see a lot of these brands coming out with good options for new riders that will get them through tons of trails as they grow into the sport.
I am a shorter rider, and I was excited to see the frame size on this bike. I was extremely disenchanted when I noticed they didn’t have a dropper post hole on the downtube. They need to just incorporate that from now on.
As a fellow who takes a 15" frame, and simply cannot find anything budget or used due to size, I welcome the Dakari. Huffy is making bikes worth fiddling with for the first time in longer than I'm supposed to admit I can remember. Also, unlike the $600 bike-store bikes, this will come home for $600 and has a distinctive theft-protection feature one will never find on a bike-store bike.
if the headtube is not tapered compatible itself you can always run an external cup (marked EC) to make it except a tapered fork. for example my Brother Cycles Big Bro steel frame comes with a 44mm internal straight headtube, but the fork is tapered.
Feels like they had gotten Small sized frames, and had to increase a few other dimentions (stem, crank length, etc) to compensate. I'd rather a Medium sized frame wit hshorter cranks. Other than that? Six hundred bucks seems to get a decent amount of bike.
Base model specialized rockhopper starts at $650 and there's a night and day difference there. Would be no comparison between the huffy and a specialized bike. Pick the next model up and it is $750. And the top of the line model is $1400 but you wouldn't need to do any upgrades to it.
Huffy owns batch, Vaast and Niner bikes. With this landing on the $600 price point while helping the Huffy branding, it makes me think that either Huffy will phase out the batch brand, or will be adding more differentiation to the batch offerings. I feel like this bike is more for the cross town commuter, occasional trail rider, or for the gravel rider who wants a bit more bike for gravel riding.
$600 Dollars for a Huffy with noname brakes, no name wheels, no-name hubs and many other shortcuts including a non-sized frame is just too much. If it were 200 dollars cheaper, it would be a steal and worth the shortcomings for anyone who would fit it.
12:30 How often does one adjust their seat in the field? Almost never. BUT, having that QR seat is a good way to someone walking off with both you seat and seat post. If you are ever out and want to stop in 7-11 for a drink, this is a problem for anyone living in the city.
@@KevCentral Happens all the time. People steal the front wheels too. I see this all the time. It's fairly common to see a frame and rear tire locked to a bike rack with all the parts stolen off it.
As I recall I believe the frame cracked I'll look into that video but today Huffy sent me an application for right now pay later which makes the dakari a bit more attractive I think I'd like to watch the rest of the videos first I think of that price range I could probably do better at DSG when there's a sale which is frequently in my opinion
Nice bike for a Huffy but JensonUSA has a Marin Palisades for $500 shipped to your door plus you can select your frame size plus the Giordano goes around this one too. Both a lot more bike than this one.
it was SHIMANO Tourney on the gt aggressor pro mine came with microSHIFT | M26 im upgrading to a microSHIFT | Acolyte an microSHIFT | Acolyte H-Series Cassette | 8 Speed | 12-42t | this week
I just bought a sized Marin w/ rockshox for 575 including shipping, new. Big box bikes absolutely suck for the price. I did buy an Axum when it was on sale for 229. That was a good deal
SR Suntour coil forks are by no means terrible. My Raleigh Tokul 1 had one and I rode the absolute snot out of it! Plus it still has squish right now and the garbage Rockshox Judy that came with my Roscoe 8 does not. People are so silly when they look down on budget components. Coil springs don't fail, but air springs do. 🤣
i hope you pick up the Diamondback Sync'r for $750 while its on sale. It is light years better than any bike at that price with boost thru axle frame, 27.5+, 1x12, shimano mt500, raceface cockpit, etc!
Not sure if these budget bike companies understand the value of the tapered headtube or maybe they think their customers are dumb. It’s for structural integrity. Is it overkill for a light trail bike ? Yes but they should know that people are looking to upgrade their bikes. Another thing is why can’t Suntour make a budget tapered head tube? Will it add that much expense?
Thanks for another great video. Looks like a project bike for the under 6ft riders. Looking forward to hearing about it’s potential for a tapered fork upgrade.
Question, How much smaller is this bike compared to the Mongoose Ardor? I have a mongoose ardor, and have limited to no clearance from the frame when standing.
Do you mind explaining why your metric for whether or not a mountain bike fits you, is the seat tube length when it seems as though the industry at large uses reach to determine if a bike suits a given height? It seems as if theses days, only road bikes are measured by seat tubes, especially seeing as a low standover (which naturally makes the seat tube shorter) is becoming almost expected on mountain bikes with the introduction of the dropper
I guess Huffy saw Kent up their game with the Trouvaille, so Huffy decided to up theirs. This is a good looking bike and it's really nice to see hydraulic brakes on a big box bike.
It's good for the entire big box bike industry, also. All of them have now been put on notice that Wal-Mart budget level shoppers care about build quality also.
Right now, the early Black Friday deal on the Polygon Siskiu D5 full suspension 27.5 for $749 at bikes online is a much better deal. Have one and totally happy with it. The 27.5 frame easily fits a 29 wheel in the back if you want to upsize the front fork to 29.
I'm always going to ask: do you have the geometry numbers? I'm always on the lookout for a project bike. I love drop bars, and I love working on bikes to make them work for me. edit: oh, you say near the end that it'll be coming. 👍
Looks like they're trying to mimic the Ardor. I recently bought an Ardor for my son for xmas for $350 and put on a jg bike dub bb for $50, i could add zoom hydros and still be under $600. While this is a good step forward it's way overpriced for what it is...
I like it. Shame the frame might not work for me. Would be kinda cool to have a Huffy again. That paint color is probably making me like it more than I should. Wouldn't get it at full price, maybe 498.... or 398....
It seems like a good value but the 2.30 tires are a deal killer. If I have to change the tires immediately I don't want the bike. 2.5-2.80 is the way a premium budget bike should go. The price is not very low after all. Good E-bikes go for $999 after all.
dunno, I like it. I have a soft spot for huffys. Someone left their huffy blackwater (1997, USA) at the dumpster and I took it and converted it to a single speed and still ride it. I love it. Brakes don't really work but it's tons of fun.
Too close in price to a Specialized Rockhopper, which you can get for similar money. You’ll get a nice, compliant frame, wide choice of sizes and probably most importantly for novice bikers, the support of your lbs if you buy locally. Btw I’m far from a Specialized fanboy, just love my Rockhopper.
It's a weird because I get that new riders would prefer a qr seat clamp, but I'd always throw a dropper on immediately and prefer the bolt on for it - can set the torque and no slippage
It doesn't seem like a bad bike at all but I'd guess if someone was gona drop around 600 on a beginner mtb, they would probably choose something else. So Huffy should drop the price if at all possible.
That chain looks like it might be a KMC X8 series. If true it should be a step up from the usual KMC Z7 series with better stretch resistance. Can you confirm?
@@ralphquintero3350 That I am. I'll go through a few for you.... I have seen that 1x before, its really low quality - I believe that is the more likely reason for the chain drop. Cartridge BB with Inboard bearings and heavy square taper axle - yuck. Even the budget ebay IXF hollow cranks with external BB would be massively better. The machining on that chainring looks awful, again many of the budget ebay chainrings would be a huge improvement. The tyres look like they are from a sub$100 bike. The rims, also look nasty, they are even drilled fron Schrader valves not the MTB industry standard Presta. There is no chance these are tubeless ready rims, which you can often find on bikes not much more expensive. The pedals & grips are the cheapest rubbish again what you'd find on a sub$100 bike. Suspect the saddle would be the same. Whilst the Suntour fork is regarded as an entry level fork....its really sratching the bottom of the barrel. And its not just the spring action (instead of air/oil dampening) or the heavy weight, but if you even dlightly upgrade the brakes, under heavy applications you'll get a lot of chattering and flex. Yes you can change it out, but thats an expensive exercise, but even a budget Manitu air fork would be a big improvement. Then theres rear cassette...yes its good that its a cassette, but seriously only 36T...thars a terrible low gear, should be atleast 42T and thats expensive to change. No dropper seat post, although that usual at this price point, a 27.2mm seat tube really reduces your options for getting a dropper. Even the seat clamp - WTF...just domething else that would need to be changed out neatky straight away. Start with a $600 Huffy, need to throw at least another $4-500 to make it a genuine entry level MTB equivalent to say a Giant Talon....and at the end you still have a steaming pile of Huffy.
@@davidwoodley3288 So you're saying that you don't recommend it for mountain bike riding? Especially on rough terrain? Oh. Thanks for the information 👍!
I'm not sure the best feature of this bike is the cassette since Shimano mtb derailleurs rely on Shimano hyperglide technology which this Ltwoo casette has not.
Like the wheel size and color. Do not like the xct forks. Stations are too small and makes the fork flimsy in time. Could you please explain what should determine crank arm length in the next video for this bike? I enjoy your videos!
I give a c plus for price / spec . The cranks practically almost touching the ground makes this bike not safe to ride on trails other than smooth and level . Especially for a beginner . Nobody wants to make a capable, safe mountain bike for a beginner at this price point . Could you get a 10 speed ,maybe a air shock and tubeless wheel capable with a decent tire tread pattern for trails .
I was wondering if huffy was going to jump in, in what I call the big box bike battle. Cause I think ever since the Schwinn boundary was released, mongoose, and Kent started making good entry level big box bikes. It's good to finally see big box bikes improving and hopefully the more competition, the more we see better features at a cheaper price 👍
Dakari=happy. Pretty nice looking bike for entry level bike . I had to look up the definition of dakari.... Any way for that price your getting close to some entry level big name bikes like Scott or Trek. But glad to see huffy stepping up there game. Great info Mr Central .
Aight I’ve only seen about 2 minutes of the video and the bike seems pretty nice I think it would be nice if you could compare some of these higher end Walmart bikes with something like a trek marlin or something similar
Those have been coming in waves today. RU-vid doesn’t seemed all too concerned with stopping them. I gave up on reporting and try to block each account as they come in 🙃
It LOOKS good...but its not...really. Firstly 27.2 seat tube yuck - hard to find a good range of dropper seat posts. It is however possible to route dropper cable though the BB and straight up internally. The 1x chainring is junk and is probably the cause of the chain drop. I'd immediately ditch infavour of a budget IXF HollowTech BB& crankset. Those tyres might be ok on road, but you can see how back the rubber compound is.... 36T largest cog on the cassette means you'll want to budget changing that over ASAP - costing more. Really for the same money or just a little more, there are MUCH better alternatives.
@@raffitchakmakjian IMHO the Schwinn Axum DP, which is $100 cheaper would be a FAR better starting point. No it doesnt have Hydraulic Brakes, but decent Shimano MT200 brakes could easily be swapped on at any time.... Plus you get a dropper....
Nah, best huffy ever was the last bike I had as a kid: BMX style Super Sonic 6 with the big handle that switched gears, I loved that thing. It only had 6 speeds but man, that thing was comfortable to ride.
