Guangdong is actually a place that pays great attention to health preservation. They care a lot about the so-called harmony of yin and yang, that is, they need to achieve a balance. For example, the heat she said Allan, is not the kind of heat in the weather temperature, but the heat in your body. In the eyes of Cantonese people, this kind of heat is the excessive yang, which leads to many problems in the body, and the formation of this heat is related to diet. If you eat a lot of fried or irritating things, your body will become hot. Therefore, Cantonese people call herbal tea as "cool tea", which means that it can cool down the heat in your body, that is, suppress the yang a little, so that the yin can recover, then your body will become balanced and healthy. By the way, there is an old Chinese saying that good medicine tastes bitter, so Allan's bottle of herbal tea must be very bitter.
You are welcome to come to Guangzhou to play. It is recommended to visit other cities in China, such as Guizhou, Yunnan, Suzhou, Inner Mongolia, Hong Kong, etc. Each city will have a different experience and customs.
✨ Alan and Shannon, you're killing me! Squid has been my favorite food in China for 23 years! Just watching you eat it.....I'm so jealous! Not on menu in 99% of U.S. Chinese restaurants, especially here in Washington DC area, but if I ask quietly if they have squid, they often quietly say yes and make some for me. They almost always say Yes, that's what we eat in the kitchen! 😍
Hey kudos for the courage to try these really really local cuisines! The herbal tea especially. It would turn away most non-cantonese for its bitterness and earthiness :D
It's good to get local experts to give you a authentic Cantonese food tour.... It's often so cringy to see some RU-vidrs eating Sichuan food in Guangzhou
Yeah, my heart was broken when I saw they finally entering a Lanzhou ramen restaurant after traveling in Guangzhou for a whole day in their last video.
@@flyingnan2520 it's not really their fault for newbies in china who has no chinese food knowledge but any good youtubers will do research on their destinations and not just wondering into any shops and hope for best... imo
@@fatdoi003 Ah, I don't think it's a "fault". Nobody defines that they should only eat Cantonese food in Canton. It's just me as a local Cantonese to feel pity. To the foreigners both Cantonese food and Lanzhou ramen are something new. To me this kind of random decision is interesting. They sometimes discover some hidden beauty which the local people automatically ignored.
@@flyingnan2520 i kind of disagree with that... china's regional cuisines are very unique to provinces, you may get a blend of each province in border cities but eating other provinces foods in Guangzhou may not be an authentic experience... from watching Pin Cheng Ji品城記 they always say it's very hard to find authentic foods in Guangdong other than Cantonese foods...
There is a kind of stereotype that Cantonese food is one of the most bland food among the food in China because they don't use overpowering spices, but it's good in its own way.
Food are very important for Chinese people There are many different of Chinese Cruising China Chinese have many culture and many food cruising. There are over 10 000 difference type of Chinese food in China You can eat 10 years different food everyday.
it's much better to have a local food guide for foreign visitors than eating food randomly, lots of food pitfalls, lol (I don't mean rendom food is not good, just maybe too exotics for foreigners)
Yes, You can eat the brown skin of the coconut fine. Not sure why she said no. But is fine albeit texture a bit woodier 😅. The black skin chicken is called a Silkie chicken. It has higher nutrition value than normal white skin chickens according to Chinese medicine. It doesn't look too appealing, but tastes no different to white chicken (well maybe its more chickeny in flavour). It's not very meaty so usually used more in soup. It's feathers are generally white and fluffy despite the flesh being dark.
welcome to the place where have the most delicious foods even Chinese from other provinces would be obsessed with too...Guangzhou maybe a desert of cultures but absolutely no way desert of foods
4:20 by look at the restaurant menu, it has variety of dessert you also can try on, come back more time for those. red bean, black Sesame, ginger milk etc😃
'When Chinese diagnose that "you are hot",or "you have some excess heat in your body", which means you have some inflamation in your body. Hope this can help.
The black skinned chicken is the Silkie chicken. These fancy chickens are actually very popular as pets because their feathers are like fur and also very docile! They look like a chicken dressed in white fur coat and hat. Some have been specially bred with black, brown or grey feathers. There are also another breed of chickens which have black feathers, black skin, black beak everything. Ayam Cemani are found in Indonesia.
19:58 It is recommended not to stir it, it is free for public use, which means you can eat it, and the leftovers after your meal will be reserved for the next guest, which means you can eat it all, or use only a spoon to pick a portion of it, and if you don't eat it, don't touch it, and stirring it over and over again without eating it or pouring it out, which is a very impolite behaviour (especially in Guangdong and Fujian Province), and the boss will throw them all away in public when he finds out that you do this, and then throw them all away when you leave. When the boss finds out you are doing this, he will throw them all away in public after you leave, as it will make the next guest feel offended, which is a local custom.
That fishy smell and flavor you describe is from the grounded up bones of flatfish such as flounder or sole and they put the powder into the broth. Now that’s an authentic bowl of wonton noodles. Similarly it’s also how it’s done in Hong Kong and Macau. There are only a handful of places in the U.S. and Europe that actually use the flatfish powder.
I think most Westerners are used to the maximum palate stimulation from every sweet, sour, salty and oily/greasy taste. Rest of the world hasn't got up to that point yet (maybe because of delayed industrialization/culture/tradition/healthy lifestyle) specially the North East Asian countries.
i hope soon if you comeback in the philippine visit laguna in luzon i want to see you guys..im a person with disabilty cant walk using a wheelchair and im your suporter in all your videos im one of your subscriber..take care always guys alan and shannon❤❤❤godbless you always.
As a Northern Chinse living in South for over a decade, I have to say I just can't enjoy Canton food as much, If you guys get a chance, you need go to Northeast of China, and try food there, you definitely will love it.
If your tongue has been numbed and de-sensitized by heavy salt and spices since childhood, it has lost its ability to taste fresh ingredients. The Cantonese tongue has not been subjected to that treatment, so it can taste the slightest flavor of each ingredient and the Cantonese cuisine reflects that ability and preference.
Could you please jot down the names of these wonderful local eateries in the comment or description? I am planning to to go Guangzhou in late September too so I’d really appreciate it if you guys could do that 😊
Unfortunately not, if you want to check out the places we ate at book a tour with lost plate food tours. You won’t regret it Discount code in the description for money off😉
It might be better if the tour guides can have more interaction with you guys, about the food, the places, the culture behind it. or maybe they did, but didn't show in this video?
The name of this kind of chicken is silky chicken. The meat is more tender than ordinary chicken, contains richer protein, and has more nutritional value than ordinary chicken. Of course, the price is a bit more expensive than regular chicken. The tea you drink is herbal tea unique to Guangdong Province. It is a kind of tea soup made from traditional Chinese medicine. It is rare in provinces other than Guangdong Province. It tastes very bitter and is difficult to swallow for people in other parts of China. However, it is very effective for certain ailments. Sometimes more effective than seeing a doctor
In China, only the local food in southwest China is spicy. The local food in east, north and South China is not spicy. The Cantonese food you eat is a typical non-spicy cuisine.
