@@Omega11998822 could you paint the Mona Lisa? You could try and see how good your results are, you might be happy with it, or you could ask a professional artist to paint you the Mona Lisa, if they are good then you will not be able to spot the difference between theirs and the original Mona Lisa. Now if that artist has to try and make your painting look closer to the Mona Lisa, than it will take them more times to go over your mistakes and sometimes they will have to start over on a fresh canvas from the beginning. Same goes for PDR and autobody work.

As a pro myself, this is a tough question to answer. PDR Training (where we all start) is expensive and meant for anyone wanting to do this for a living. If you only want to do this part time, as a hobby, or just for your own repairs - it would be overkill on the budget. And PDR is difficult to learn. You need to spend years just to get "decent" at it.

As a paintless dent repairer myself I found this video highly accurate and entertaining. Additionally much like the PDR Guy said, I get called often by people who have attempted a repair themselves and have damaged the dent beyond a perfect repair by stretching the panel, especially with glue.

I love these Pro vs DIY episodes. I think it is awesome to give praise to those professionals, not to mention, it provides insight into what is available in the car world. I never thought there was such thing as a mobile paintless dent repair.

It's one of situations where you aren't paying the guy $600 for the 4 hours he works on your car, you're paying him $600 for the 10 years he spent learning how to do it.

once when I was a kid we were playing basketball in my friends driveway and the basketball ricocheted and left a pretty big dent in the door. His parents were obviously furious, but a day or two later we were back at it, shootin hoops and someone's butt hit the edge of the dent perfectly and popped it out. complete stroke of luck, but it was pretty koo

As a PDR tech of 12yrs, I gotta say THANK YOU! Too many car guys think we just "pop" or quickly pull out dents with little to no skill, every week I see a suction cup or eBay glue pull kit in the corner of the garage when I do a repair.

I used to be a detailer at a pretty big dealership here in Omaha. The dealership's contracted PDR company would sometimes use one of our bays if we had room and the body shop nextdoor didn't. Watching those guys work was like watching a master sculptor creating his next masterpiece. The sheer focus and concentration in their faces was something I'd never seen. They'd bring in a hail damaged car that looked like the surface of a golf ball, and make it look like it was brand new. Of course, they'd wash those cars themselves after they were done. We shidiot apes weren't going to be the ones to ruin the hours of painstaking effort they'd just put in. PDR is truly an art form, and it takes a lot of time and patience to be good at it. These dudes performed miracles.
