Was a $100k reward but they only offer 70% of comps.

I hope the vendors at the Dallas show get together and demand better security. Cameras. Uniformed and non uniformed guards etc. the amount of money in these rooms is extremely high. Cards and cash etc. loss prevention/security team should be hired for all of these shows.

One item I would recommend for vendors, get a wire lock, once you pack up, interconnect all your cases, so one can’t be taken.

It's funny how people with no money know what the rich should do with theirs just like how people who have never had a table at a card show or even been to a card show know for a fact that this would have never happened to them. 😂

the victim blaming is wild. OBVIOUSLY they could have done more, and some of the suggestions are good, BUT in the end, these cards should have been able to be on a TABLE and no one stole them. Sure we live in a world where people steal, that doesn't mean it's right or it's some how the sellers fault they were stolen.

I just watched a few videos about this and I haven’t seen a lot of what would be “victim blaming.” I see a lot of incredulous responses that there seems to be a lax in security, and I see people giving tips about what else they would do to protect their millions. The person who posted this video expressed disdain for the “victim blaming” then said to consider AirTags. 🤷🏽‍♀️ For the internet, the comments on the three videos I watched in the last three days have been incredibly cordial.

I live in Dallas. Been to the Dallas Card Show a million times. The show is MASSIVE. It’s at a massive hotel. There’s multiple entry points. It’s at a hotel. It’d be hard to control and monitor who all is in there after the show.

Rule #1 (as a dealer - which I am), "island set-ups" (ie. 4 OPEN sides at a booth) are the WORST for theft. Seen it happen at comic shows... When I do a show - My wife and I make a classic "U" in which you have to enter and you have to get past US before you depart our booth. A 4 open-sided booth (island booth) is JUST asking for trouble unless you have 4 DEDICATED person to monitor EACH side. For this type of inventory...when that case got finally packed...the employees should have immediately walked it out to the van....and HAD someone AT the van and STAYING with damn van until everything was packed up.

So much going on here... I never carry more than a few thousand dollars worth of cards on me because I can't afford personal security. This dealer should have had better security. It doesn't make what happened his fault, but these things happen, it's why no one leaves their stuff where they can't keep an eye on it. That being said, it's awesome to see the effort being put in by other hobbyists to get the word out and help catch these guys, especially the guy who looks like AJ McLean in a bucket hat. Based on the video they have, it will only be a matter of time before he gets tracked down. It's too bad the dealer has to give up what is essentially one of those mickey mantles that was stolen as a bounty so he is losing either way, but I am not sure the bounty is necessary, I think they're going to find these guys either way

very good video / photo. Were some of the cards stolen graded? Hopefully owner has a copy of all the graded card ID numbers. If So, might be wise to distribute these numbers to card shops, pawn shops in the area, along with possibility of a bounty reward for the return of the cards. This might be a long, slow process. unless the cards have already left the country, which would complicate things a bit more. Here's to finding them soon!

The staff/owner should have known better as I know for a fact he/she has had theft durring setup and break-down. Base on size of booth and inventory they have been doing shows for years. Often theft is from personal staff, exhibit hall staff, or even other exhibitors. I have caught other exhibitors, staff, and facility staff steal my inventory through the yeas (25 years in the business). I once had exhibitor hall staff try to steal a whole pallet of my inventory during set up. Forklift driver staff happen to find my pallet when I requested to file police report immediately. Within 30 minutes the 1 pallet came back in two pallets!!!??? Experience should have taught them better. I am an exhibitor and sell high end products. Though I don't carry any one thing over $40K in my booth I am very strict on where I keep my inventory. This type theft is the exact reason why I do my best to contain highend inventory. Breakdown and setup is the most opportune time for theft. I once had some thief make off with a couple of statues inside one of my display case during shut-down. Eversince, I pack up my top tier items immediately and have it in an area where it is in sight and blocked off. Greed and opportunity comes with the territory of high end collectibles; I would be auditing staff also in this situation.

I attended the Dallas Card Show on Saturday. I did see a few off-duty police officers roaming the show floor and the hotel lobby.

$70k reward. How much to hire 1 guard for a weekend? How can anyone with $2 million in a case sitting there not have the common sense to have a minimum of security. Someone smart enough to have that much value in a suitcase you would think would have a bare minimum of security.

Does the hotel not have cameras in their garage that shows their license plates

I'm surprised I haven't heard more about how The National is apparently limiting how many vendor passes someone can have. That decision seems like it will make this easier.

I’d like to see the hour long video of the guy that stole the cards as he was stacking the same chairs over and over directly across from where the cards were taken. This info came from a fellow dealer that was set up at the show. Lots of questions. We’re the guys that got distracted “employees” of Ash? If so I would be looking at that possibility as well.

That happened two years ago with the national show in New Jersey 2 million worth of cards were stolen from a dealer and they never got anybody got anybody

One idea you could do is put an air tag inside a mem card and I don’t know if PSA would do it, but get it slabbed by some company and if they ditch the case the air tag will be in the mem card preferably in a slab. And as for insurance scam the last thing these guys would want is that these guys to be caught and wouldn’t be blasting their faces everywhere. If these guys were caught they would spill the beans to get lighter sentences and turn the dealers in for insurance fraud.

Hope the NATIONAL is paying attention to this....and DOING something to prevent this from happening in Cleveland....otherwise, expect it to happen there too.

The person that is providing the show needs to provide personal lock boxes where they can lock that stuff up if you want the people with big cards to come to the show. At this continue , they'll just put them on auction sites and you'll just be left with a bunch of common cards

Horrible to blame the victim in any crime. Especially ones like this. It’s a shame but Smart thing for dealers (especially with this type of inventory) moving forward is to hire private armed security. It’s not too expensive and well worth it.

The claim part with collectibles is always hard you may get what you paid that would be nice but we all know so many things are worth more then what we paid and insurance doesn’t want to pay too dollar usually

Its unfortunate this happened but it was inevitable. At my local card show I see vendors (sometimes just 1 person) with cards that are worth $10K plus and showcases with over $100K's worth of cards. I'm telling myself that guy better have a concealed carry permit cause he is a target for a criminal with bad intentions. High end vendors should consider hiring security.

I don’t think security is adequate for the amount of valuables and people plus the show was closed providing a false sense of security for the vendors . You shouldn’t have your head on a swivel looking for thieves because vendors and show organizers should be the only ones there . That’s what stinks about the whole situation. They should have the names and the contact information for everybody on the floor on file when it’s reached the point in the day someone with a multi million dollar collection is putting his stuff up One thing that might not be popular that I think they can implement as soon as the national. after watching other clips from whole room view,i still think more were involved and a guy on the right looking at his phone or to the camera looks suspicious because from his stand point he had a clear view of people coming in or out.And also the woman with black hair,hands in her pocket and she seems to scan the place also all within the timeframe of the heist.

Having a sports card collection and being a part-time vendor, CIS insurance is essential. Have had it for about five years and only had to use once. Couldn’t find one card in our inventory after a show and reported that to CIS… They gathered my info and the card sat on my PSA set registry for three months. After about three months, a rep from CIS reached back out and asked if I found it. I told them the truth that it never was found and still sitting on my PSA set registry. They then cut me a check for the listed PSA price guide value for the card at the time, which was at comps for the card ($240).

If you have one or two million dollars worth of anything, why not hire a guard to stand or sit next to it. Cost for a weekend? 3 or 4 grand? You could probably save that much on your insurance payments if you show the insurance company you have a guard during the show.
