In todays video I continue my shop scrap out with a massive pile of copper wire and around a ton of transformers. This was a ton of work and was about 1 1/2 days of processing.

Buy or borrow a electric cement mixer. Toss those buss bars inside with a bag of gravel. A hour later clean copper. If you want a video link let me know.

I used to work in a copper cookie cutter manufacturing company. In order to get them nice and bright & shiny, we put them in a machine that vibrated & rotated and had odd shaped ball bearings & a mild detergent. After they were in it for 20 minutes, they came out looking better that polished gold! So yeah, I can see how your method wound work as well. Except your way is WAY more budget friendly! 😋

@@MrLemaire1 That sounds like a cool job, Did you get lots of scrap copper?
@MrLemaire1
@MrLemaire1 Год назад
@@ProjectShopFl unfortunately no. The owners kept that. I was in charge of the crimping & cutting machines and there was quite a bit of scrap each day. Of course that was back in ‘01 when # 1 copper was back and forth between 75¢ & $1.25/lb. They were getting 70lb. rolls of copper flat stock for about $70 (on average). BTW, I’ve been subscribed & watching since like 2020 when you were doing everything outside under that carport, behind your house. Every video you’ve made has been enjoyable & educational. There are days that I just play ones I’ve already watched in the past just to have background noise. I’d LOVE to be able to have a shop that’s even just a fraction of the awesomeness that your shop is. 😎✌🏽👍🏽

Do you have an easy method to determine what you will offer for big scrap purchases that ensures you always make profit after processing? I know the market fluctuates on metal prices. Or, do you just sit down and do the math for each case by case?
@ProjectShopFl

I pay local market prices and process the copper as fast as possible and sell it as fast as possible so I don't lose if the market starts to go down.

He does it beacuse of the dust nothing Hazzarous
@empirefinds
@empirefinds Год назад
If there is a chance of metal partials becoming airbourn then a mask is minium requirement a respirator would be better because some of the dust causes cancer much like asbestos and dusk mask will not cut it. Hope this helps brother.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Год назад
I think there is a resin and sometimes what looks like fiberglass. When my press breaks them it produces a dust cloud. I'm usually breaking a few 100 and when I'm done there is dust everywhere. I would highly recommend a respirator and not just a dust mask.

I wouldn’t waste my time on the bud bars. My yard won’t take it as no 1 if it’s “clean” they are rip offs lol so I would just send it and make your money on something more worth the time! But I appreciate you testing it for the masses

@silverlicious2086 Год назад
Awesome payout. Nice job. I would think cleaning each bus bar individually would be very time consuming especially the bent curved pieces. If you have other new material coming into the shop and waiting to be processed it might be worth it to just send the bars as is and move on to the next load of material. Spending a lot of time trying to clean those would lower your ROI, especially with material waiting to be process. Maybe you can clean those bars faster than I think. I guess test cleaning one will help make your decision.
@ProjectShopFl
@ProjectShopFl Год назад
I think you are right. I'm still on the fence, I might do just one bar and see how much time and effort it is.

Do the scrap yards ever ask you how you get so much?
@ScrapFatherScrapSon
@ScrapFatherScrapSon Год назад
You tend to build a rapport with yards when you bring in huge loads of copper. Most yards will take it. Most yards if not all will have a record of what you bring in the case of a report of said item being stolen. Otherwise they usually don’t ask questions
@ScrapFatherScrapSon
@ScrapFatherScrapSon Год назад
About a month ago I came in with a. Truck load of 750 mcm underground power cable(aluminum with some copper strands ) at first sight my buddy at the yard looked at me funny. I bring in loads of wire but this was damn near 1000 pounds. He said is that all copper? I laughed and said no. He said well I was told to be on the lookout for some 750 mcm COPPER wire because someone stole 800 ft of it from a cell phone tower. Obviously it wasn’t me but if there is a report of something stolen they are told to be on the lookout lol
