Few people already pointed this out - some amount of greyscale is okay to add depth and guide artist. Also it gives better results when you'are drawing with not fully covering pencils or just don't have skills yet. And if you don't want that additional shading, you just use markers. Of course it all depends on how you approach that AI generated art because like in your example it looks like this person just copy-pasting pictures without any thought. I think generating coloring pages is ok as long as you take time to fix errors and make pictures actually fun to color. I used Midjourney to generate images for my children book but I also took the time to write the story, make activities, format the book so I think whn those AI generated pictures fit in your content, it's ok to use them. Still, Amazon page says that my book is #1 new release in my category but it doesn't do anything in terms of sales. :D

Great analysis, love these type of videos. I'm personally building several AI coloring book brands, but placing a BIG emphasis on quality. I don't publish any AI-generated coloring pages that have mistakes or shading, only super crisp lines with lots of detail and upscaled to boost resolution. The technology is 100% there, it just takes some studying into prompt engineering and trial and error. It's an exciting future for coloring books. The key is to focus even more on quality, creativity and composition of each page, as the market gets flooded more and more with generic coloring books. In this current climate, customers are going to start craving quality from reputable brands as they slowly wake up to the amount of crappy coloring books being published. That's my theory anyway.

I am now making my third coloring book. My goal is to make 30 books just to have a base, after that is done I will look into how to improve the other things to get them sold. Right now I find difficult to do both.

Thank you for this video! I had some success with a couple of AI-generated coloring books and they are doing ok even after a few months. In the UK at some point one of the books even had a 3-digit BSR. However I am getting some negative comments about the images, so I've decided not to put images straight out of MJ into books. I am doing sketches with MJ but then I order line work on top of it with real artists. Plus they will exclude or correct some of the rubbish details that MJ is creating sometimes. Plus with those successful coloring books I've started an email list (by including a qr code with a lead magnet) and I would really like not to be slightly ashamed of my books when I send my newsletters :) We'll see how it goes.

I am a graphic designer, my advise is to get familiar with the graphic terms to use in the prompts., basically all the filters from photoshop can give you an idea of the possibilities. For colouring books the basic prompt would be '' line art '' and ''sketch'' but the styles are endless

@@howttwas yes, that helps however the results are still far from desirable. lots of shoddy line work, unrecognizable details. it could pass as wall art piece that people just give a glance but when they are coloring they pay attention to every area of the image in turn and those unrecognizable details really piss people off. I've seen a couple of videos from coloring enthusiasts scolding at AI coloring books for that.

It is possible to get coherent, good looking, high quality, colouring pages with Mid journey, it comes down to the strength of the prompt. These books have taken the low effort approach.

Interesting. After 2 years of evolving to make some awesome activity books, it can honestly be discouraging to see subpar books doing so well just because they have an advertising budget I do not. I think using AI could be good if you improve the quality of images. I created a coloring book using Ai but I had to fix them in my iPad using procreate in order to sell a decent book.

In a way it’s like the new “notebook niche” where people just quickly put stuff in. It’s going to be a bit hard to stop people from using AI. Unless Amazon has a tool to figure out it’s made from ai, Like essays. Just a good point though. I like these videos just gives an idea. I actually draw my coloring books but I might do a mix of ai and drawing because it does take a while and I have a list of niche still and it’s July 😅!!! Ofc all these books are for next year in a way since I’m making them this year is how I always thought about it

Ai generated coloring pages have many problems. It took me time to generate some decent pages without shadows and mistakes in them. And that one you showed here as an example is very messed up. I would never have the courage to sell it.

It's called "Scaling" nothing wrong with an ad spend of 1-2K if profits for the campaigns used which will normally be multiple are in the 10s of thousands, I would spend 2k today if I was going to get 4k tomorrow makes sense.

@@oOiBurnZOo I am sure they don't make any money at the start and they have probably factored into a books launch to run at a loss for the first month or even two months until the book gets ranked and they will then scale back on the ad's once the organic sales start hitting high numbers the ad's are used to just turbo charge the books profile.

A couple of big non-AI coloring book publishers (Coco Wyo and Coloring Book Cafe) were also recently terminated. Maybe KDP is auditing coloring books because it’s being flooded with them.

People just crack me up. If you pay an illustrator 600 (if you are lucky) for 40 pages, you are already at a deficit. So in order to sell a book at 8.99 you have to use AI, otherwise you are just working for pennies.

I think you can use AI based on common sense. If you put into the other's shoes, you could understand what they need and like to your customer in order to avoid getting bad reviews and worse, being banned by Amazon.

How much of a loss do you think one should expect with those initial ads? I’ve published 5 coloring books now, good products in my opinion (definitely better than those featured here), run ads to all, and end up wasting about $50 per book with one or two sales. Am I bailing too soon?

I think if you run heavily on ads you should have a decent interior made by an actual human. It won't rise your total costs that much because of ad spents. If you don't then there is the risky of bad reviews you even paid for. Horror scenario.

This is more an example of a lazy person more than a representation of AI coloring books. Absolutely nothing generated by AI is in a condition to sell as is. Using correct prompts and doing additional work post generation and AI can produce some quality coloring pages.

Sorry mate, but to have 2.500 bsr, this person probably has a 200.000 e-mail subscribers list. It is horse shit what this person is selling. Just trash but with marketing (5k$+/month) and a regular e-mail subscribers, yes, it is a successful story. But a.i generated usually is with a lot of greyscale and a lot of problems. For new users is really really hard on adult coloring books. But thanks for the video!
