I had this exact same keyboard.... until i somehow managed to snap the spacebar easily. Then out of frustration managed to shatter the entire keyboard with nothing but minimal effort with my bare hands!
I'm always searching thrift stores for keyboards as you never know what you might come across, as a few months ago I was able to get a Logitech K360 wireless keyboard for $8 from my local goodwill with the unifying receiver which if you have to replace runs about $15. So yeah even if you find a board that looks dirt they are not that hard to clean with a $0.99 ring key cap puller off eBay, some cheap dish soap, warm water, Dollar window cleaner, paper towels, and some elbow grease which can yield some nice finds for cheap.
I had the K-120, it was somewhat nice up until I washed it. After that the rubber just became unusably sticky. And on a side-note, thrift stores are usually hit and miss and vary a lot on where you live. What seems dirt cheap for people in the US might very well be outrageously expensive or rare in somewhere like Eastern Europe. And if you start looking at Ebay, well then the shipping prices start getting a bit long in the tooth.
A lot of people CAN afford expensive boards & mice, and once you're used to them... they ain't much different. The expensive ones usually light up, weigh more, are 'cooler' etc. etc. etc., but, for actually using your computer, the cheap stuff is surprisingly good. Still using my ancient Dell mouse and keyboard, and I'm pretty sure the two together weren't worth $20 when they were brand new a decade ago :)
My current keyboard is a Logitech K200, which is about £10 give or take. But it’s probably kind of equivalent to this, it has rubber dome keys and has a bit of a gap between the middle keys, including a cover on the numlock keys, etc. But is pretty comparable. But I’ve used it for at least several years, and where I do want a new expensive keyboard now, it’s pretty good (for now). Great video too 👍
Important is how tall (not how wide!) are the shafts in which the keys travel. If you do the math, the ratio of key size to this and the plastic friction coefficient determines whether the keys will jam when pressed off center. Whether backspace, capslock, tab, shift, enter, ctrl have stabilizers. I think this should be adressed, not how the logo is printed or what’s printed on the box.
My daily is a razr ornata but I sometime use these as "disposables" I found a whole lot in the trash at the same place I picked up my HP proliant racks. I think they had like dozen + a dozen of old apple A1048's. That was in 2018, since the disruptive thing started in 2020 it's harder to find lots like these for free, people got into everything and anything to pass time...
For your mouse, you could go to the Dollar Store and buy a USB cord, clip off the micro or lighting end and solder it in place of the retractable unit. If you want the retractable feature, buy one at Big Lots and do the same thing. I used to do that for the kid's mice for their laptops when their preferred mice would malfunction.
All you need, at least with the ones I did, is a small Phillips head screwdriver and a soldering iron (with solder, of course!). and half of those supplies you can get at the $ store. :)
Probably not bad for $8! I have a similar generic keyboard which flexed in the middle too. I remember getting it cheap a couple of years ago as a backup because it had Windows-98 logo start keys! I've just bought the Cherry MX-Board 3.0 as it was on sale. First mechanical keyboard I've used but I'm getting used to it! It's quite nice to type on and not too clicky because it has MX red keyswitches.
I actually had one of those keyboards. They're alright. I use an HP 5187 PS/2. I need to get an IBM Model M. The HP 5187 Isn't bad. I do like the feel of it especially for a Rubber Dome keyboard. It has a matte-shiny finish. This thing is a titanic.
Rii Keyboards are pretty good.. I bought two Mechanical Feeling Keyboards from them on Amazon.. Both with RGB Keys.. They also sell Rii Keyboards without RGB Keys.. Around $8 without RGB Keys.. And about $12 to $15 with RGB Keys.. Keep the cool videos coming!
I actually have that exact model ihome mouse, still use it today for my tablet, or any device I need to use a mouse with. Very cheap junk but reliable as I've been using it for the past 3 years.
For a good, cheap keyboard, i bought the Microsoft Wired Keyboard 600 in 2014 for around £10 ($14) and still use on average 7 hours every day and has ever let me down. It's not perfect but has low profile keys that are quiet in use, seems better made and doesn't look or feel cheap .
3:44 Pretty sure that's just there as a holdover from old Compaq laptops and keyboards, that had that as a sticker, then HP also had that as a sticker, then they got lazy and put that as a part of the main label and didn't include the actual guide, which I'm sure my Compaq Evo laptops would have included when they were new. 8:15 A similar thing has happened to me with a Targus black retractable mouse I have, but at the mouse side. It still works fine, but I no longer retract it all the way, instead, to 1 click (or notch) before its fully retracted. Then, a client I repaired a PC for gave me a new Logitech M305 which I use when I have my laptop at home (because it's a Dell Inspiron 3000 2-in-1 with a bad hardware design where the touchpad disables when the lid is closed all the way, later resulting in unresponsive or erratic behaviour), however, I only use it at home, and only use the other mouse when I'm out of home, because I don't want it to suffer the same fate as my Microsoft Sculpt Touch mouse (where its "touch strip" got damaged and I didn't have the original receipt to send it in for replacement)
Cheap keyboards are the bomb. I'm still using the 8 dollar keyboard that came with an old Dell desktop box. Works fine. And, when you get gamer rage and smash it, it's no big deal--a little super glue and you're back in the game :) The $8 Dell optical mouse still works too. Sure, uber-pricey 'gaming rated' mice may look and feel... more expensive, but the cheap stuff still works fine.
The HP domes we use in the school computer lap are awful low-travel ones. If I could, I'd bring a mechanical 60 percent (since they're so small) keyboard. I sometimes consider building one.
I am typing this on a chiclet keyboard that I have had since 2009. It outlived my last computer of the same year. The '20' is the recycling symbol for paper. There are a number of recycling symbols, like '5' for polypropylene and '6' for polystyrene. By the way, wired computer mice aren't going anywhere; my new computer came with a wired mouse.
Funny they should say "HP standards". My HP desktop computer came with a 75W PSU that weighs about 400 grams. Yes, you read that correctly, and no, im not joking.
You should try reviewing more expensive membrane keyboards, even those that claim to be half mechanical/mechnical feeling. I think those would be more interesting than cheap throwaway keyboards. Also, if you want a cheap wired mouse, the Microsoft Wheel Mouse or Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical are legendary and unbeatable. You can still find those brand new on eBay for under $10.
I got a wireless mouse with a "wired mode" and i just got one of those cheap retractable cables that go to MicroUSB and i cut it up so It'd fit into the slot and I'm happy with that
I've stopped buying iHome products as everyone I've ever bought while functional has been a huge let down in my book, and the HP boards are for sure a step above anything iHome has ever put out at around the same price point. Also I don't remember the model number off the top of my head but I found a new condition with the plastic still on it HP multimedia keyboard with a riser bar at the back(no feet just the bar set at one angle) at a local thrift store a few weeks ago for $5, and I have it on my PC at work, and it's honestly surprised me as the typing feel is as good as the Logitech K360 wireless keyboard I was using before(took it back home as it's more expensive, and easier for someone to take lol), so yeah HP keyboards are hit and miss, but for sure better then brands like iHome.
I once got a set with a keyboard and a mouse (wireless, they both use the same dongle) from "rapoo" for 12€. Pretty cheap, and the mouse is very good, i still use it. The keyboard though has a very strange layout ("nav cluster" is only 1 row instead of 3)
these cheap HP keyboards are SOOOO bad. if you only hit a key without completely bottoming it out (but still collapsing it in), they keystroker doesn't register.
I played the rhythm game "osu!" on this keyboard and a similar HP mouse in school and I have to say they're probably some of the best cheap beginner osu keyboards because it's not a mushboard and it can take a beating okay. that's one thing that the perixx/amazonbasics board don't have over this one. the actuation force is lower meaning it's easier to spam press for those types of games.
Very good video you earned a subscriber but your ending in your video was a little dull it would be nice if you said something like well that’s all we have for today or something like that but otherwise the video was very good
I have used this (or a similar) keyboard in the past. I think it is the same keyboard that comes in the box with new HP desktops. The HP OEM keyboards like this one are awful to type on. I prefer Dell's upgraded multimedia OEM keyboards.
There are no Value Village stores in my area to speak of, and that's the case for many people as well. I just keep my eyes open at Thrift stores in my area, and things like Walmart/target clearance isles/bins. I recently scored a Logitech K360 wireless keyboard with the unifying dongle for $8 at one of my local GoodWill stores.
I found a DasKeyboard Model S at a Goodwill for 5 dollars, its been serving me pretty well since I got it. It even has Cherry MX Brown Switches which is a good compromise between noise and tactility.
Yep, I understand. Cash Converters here where I live does have a ton of cheap used keyboards and mice. From what I remember, (a while back) there probably had been a company that offloaded all their stock Lenovo ThinkCentre keyboards and mice there, so there were so many of them in one of the stores.
I wouldn't want to make one for $8. Sorry I am thumbs up number 666 ~s~ Oh, and I bought a second hand U482D Dell Black Multimedia USB keyboard for £10.00 including postage. That is about $14.00 and apart from a sticky rubber wheel at the top, which dried out after I put some isopropil alcohol on it, it is fantastic. and it doesn't bend :)
Not trying to be rude - what is the reason for which you don't buy new & high quality computer equipment/peripherals? Is it that it's just not worth it? Even some gaming stuff is really solid.
Because all of the big tech channels (Linus, Austin, Marques, etc. etc.) already review that kind of stuff, and there's no use in trying to compete with them.
The HP keyboards that come with new business computers are a bit nicer. Not amazing, but they work fine. Looking at my keyboard - the underscore is actually correct on this one. lol
I've seen in my local RadioShack store in Peru a combo of a cheap keyboard with mouse included. The keyboard fortunately I gave a good usage that the rubber dome is finally working, but the mouse included honestly sucks.
1:52 Well, it's productive as it lets me know if I accidentally hit Caps Lock and typed out a bunch of text in ALL CAPS. (Sorry for multiple comments, but the RU-vid app won't let me do anything else while writing a comment.)
Yeah its not cheap in Canada, its actually kind of expensive. Amazon.ca shows 35 dollars for the HP K1500 keyboard. I know theres currency conversion and import costs, but there is no way that this is worth 35 dollars in canada.
Those spindle cables tend to be the weak link in the chain. They go first, and then you may as well throw the whole mouse away: Keyboards are like shoes: you want to spend money up front for a good keyboard that'll last you decades with regular maintenance. Amortized over years, a $150 mechanical keyboard may well cost less than all the $8 keyboards you'd have bought and thrown away over the same time period.
Those $4 Inland keyboards cost at least $8 a year, if you are lucky, mostly because the printing wears off quickly and then they start to malfunction. (personal experience) But hey, $4 a pop!
We've got the same keyboard :D Honestly the keyboard isn't that bad but i ended up getting a much better keyboard because someone else needed a keyboard lol
I bought one of the hp cheap at keyboards for a while and it was actually pretty nice to use. I sold with some desktop I had on eBay and replaced with this logitech cheap keyboard (cause I wasn't ready to buy a mechanical keyboard) and my god that logitech keyboard is absolute garbage to the hp cheap one.
Has your skill in playing games increased by 120 percent and your typing speed by 200 percent after the purchase? :D A cheap keyboard can be decent as well.
I used a rubberdome keyboard for 40 bucks for a long period of time. Now I use a mechanic keyboard manufactured by fnatic for around $80. Somehow I regret the purchase it's too much money for a keyboard in my opinion.
Indeed the keyboard is cheap and is a membrane keyboard for use to day and day is okay but let's face it is a quite keyboard as the apple keyboard but is too expensive there is others keyboards are actually the same of the apple keyboard but they are cheaply made.
