The T version of the i3 is limited to 35 Watts (i5, too, i7 45 Watts). Those strange BIOS settings allow the cpu to use more than that for a limited time (that power budget is also shared with the gpu, so it also depends if 3d is running or not). Tip: Sandy bridge is the first version with video coding built in, (quick sync), quality isn't the best but you could convert a video to h264 in handbrake rather qucikly.

Because it's not custom, it opens up many opportunities for customizing. I can see this as a good computer option for college students, were space is at a premium! tablets are the thing all students are using, but finishing reports requires the horsepower of a PC. Also, it can be used to stream Netflix between classes on the dorm room TV... LOL!

That would be a Thin Mini-ITX form factor motherboard. It's the same size as Mini-ITX, but it has a lower profile and internal connectors, as you mentioned, for an LCD display. Several vendors offered All-in-One cases with Thin Mini-ITX boards, but the trend never really caught on.

13:00 - I pass through Killybegs on my way to work and indeed I often get stuck behind a tractor along that stretch of road to Donegal. I also didn't realise there were any PCs built into the keyboard until I saw this. I think this makes more sense over an "all in one" monitor as this lets one choose their own monitor.

I have never really seen the appeal of these, especially considering the cooling aspects, though if no high-performance activities are necessary, they should be usable. I much prefer the form factor of a laptop or desktop, as well. But I prefer laptops over desktops (primarily taking into account the occasional power outages), so I really have no privilege to say this. Anyway, I have found your channel very entertaining and informative since I first found it (you?). OOh I love that this sort of thing is making a comeback. I hope they become more prevalent, and will be easy to buy in the store. Not only can you use any monitor you want, but you can also plug it into the TV and browse the internet from the couch. The built-in trackpad is a problem though, if you're left-handed like me. I'd just use a mouse anyway.

Ahoy, 5 years later I found this video. Nice summary. I made the mistake of buying the Cybernet ZPC-D5. It has the Intel Atom D525 with Intel Pineview-D GMA3150 GPU, 8G RAM and 320GB HDD. It came with Win7 but had been upgraded to Win10 Home. It has a great keyboard, good trackpad, 1G ETH and 5ghz WiFi. However, the only thing it is good for is things like Libre Office and other lighter work Even at 480P RU-vid videos drop about 22% frames. It won't run Retroarch so retrogaming is out. Even the TI99/4a emulator runs at 70% speed so its slower than the real computer. It does seem to do a little better with Debian Linux with the LXDE desktop. Maybe with an SSD...Thanks for the review, daveyb

When on Ubuntu hold Ctrl+Alt+T and the terminal window will appear (even if you dont see it on your screen because of your issue) now try to blindly type this: xrandr --output LVDS --off --output VGA-0 --auto And then press enter. Your LCD monitor should be now set as the main screen of your computer. The beautiful thing about linux is that you can control the OS and not the other way around as it happens with locked proprietary OSes such as windows and Mac
@vwestlife
@vwestlife 7 лет назад
And how is it acceptable to have to do that in 2017? If Linux is about "freedom" then I'd rather have the freedom to use an operating system that works correctly without having to blindly type cryptic commands first.
@billkillernic
@billkillernic 7 лет назад
Its not a cryptic command if you look at it.. you call xrandr (which is the thingy in charge for displaying your stuff on the monitor) to switch off the default source (LVDS) and enable the primary VGA (the zero denotes that its the primary output) source using an automatic resolution (you can define it manually if you like by replacing the --auto part with --mode 1920x1080 or whatever you like (as long as your monitor supports it) if you would like to display from the HDMI simply replace "VGA" with "HDMI" Obviously after that you can reconfigure your screen or screens and the video outs using the graphical environment if typing commands on the console is something completely strange to you. Your issue is irrelevant to linux itself it has to do with the particular motherboard vendor. Last but not least linux is about configurability if you dont like to tweak and configure your system then linux flavors may not be the thing for you even the more user friendly ones such as ubuntu. Anyway I hope that you resolved your issue with that command.
@vwestlife
@vwestlife 7 лет назад
The issue *is* relevant to Linux if every other operating system works fine without needing to blindly type commands to get it to work first. Even obscure operating systems like Haiku and Visopsys work perfectly on this machine! (The developer of Visopsys takes a dig at Linux on his web site by saying "no need to edit mysterious configuration files by hand.")
@billkillernic
@billkillernic 7 лет назад
listen there is simply no way to control every obscure little aspect of small production hardware such as in your case especially if we are talking about free software development. Also Ubuntu works fine its just that you can not see the primary display because its displayed on the laptop default monitor which should be the case in every other rational instance of a laptop motherboard being used. My guess is that Windows Visopsys etc just display the same thing by default in all the screens connected thats why you saw the main screen on the secondary monitor (the lcd screen connected via VGA) because both monitor 1 and monitor 2 where displaying the same thing as where in ubuntu it just saw that you have two monitors (the laptop default one and the LCD connected via VGA) and extended automatically the workspace for you.. its not ubuntus fault that the chineseum manufacturer tried to make an all in one keyboard PC by using a generic laptop motherboard and forgetting to deactivating the main display and setting the VGA/HDMI source as the main video out... And I am also quite confident that you could configure this thing while installing ubuntu so yea..
@billkillernic
@billkillernic 7 лет назад
And thinking more about it what you also could do is right click on the screen and click on "open terminal" then the terminal should appear in the screen you right clicked (the one you can see) from which you could type this unity-control-center which would open the graphical window for various settings such as the display settings and from there you could click your way to set up the VGA lcd as the primary screen

You should consider yourself amazingly fortunate to have found one offered for sale in working condition. As you have realized, finding these machines and similar on the used markets are nearly impossible, not helped of course by the corporate recycling policies mandated by many organizations. It's a pity machines like these don't enjoy greater popularity; they seem like an excellent alternative to those U.S.F.F. desktop machines that are mountable to the rear of an LCD monitor. I take it this will now serve as your primary machine, replacing the previous keyboard PC commonly seen in your videos?

Just install some light-weight Linux distro, put Steam and emulators and you got some cool PC and gaming system that resembles classic home computers. The only thing I don't like about this is that flat/chicklet keyboard. Mechanical, full size keyboard would be much better and more reliable.

Are there any alternatives to this pc in keyboard formfactor that are still for sale? Tried to find a K3 Wintel for instance, but sold out everywhere

I'd be interested to know if the keyboard itself has a standard connector that connects to the motherboard -- like an internal USB header-style, a standard USB, or a 4-wire tiny connector. I would like to know so I can think about replacing the keyboard for a nicer one, or in case it breaks. Also -- the Power adapter is 35 Watts from what I have read. The fastest processor that fits into an LGA 1155 socket is an i7 3770. But that takes 45 Watts. Do you think replacing the Power Adapter with a similar one that does 45 Watts will work, or is it more complicated than that?

You can use any standard laptop power supply with it, regardless of wattage.

I think you can choose the display for Ubuntu by going into those settings by pressing F4

I have an idea for that 'internal' USB port. Put in a nano-receiver for a wireless mouse in there, and there you have a completely seamless non-Bluetooth wireless mouse!!!

u can still get ubuntu to make it use the secondary display as a primary display via display settings

Have you thought about using this on battery power? Looks like a great 2nd computer in limited space where you can connect the 2 to a single monitor. Was checking out your AM Stereo videos the other night. Still enjoying the sound. Great video!

i think you miss said port at 6:25, if you look at 3G_CON it has white arrow bellow it pointing downards so then it is trying to tell you 3G Connector is futher down. while OS27 29 or w.e it says to right has white arrow pointing to left so i guess that one is from white port. But i could be wrong since i never seen this kind of pc before in a keyboard like that. at 6:57 SIM card reader is missing so mostlikely this version does not include a 3G Module/Adapter or so at all

you're actually smart for covering the COA on that one keyboard PC. Theres a lot of people on RU-vid that dont cover it. I actually got use of a Win 7 ultimate coa i found on YT. I just had to call MS and tell them I just reinstalled and it worked for a long time then MS said its blacklisted. I then went to modding bios's for OEM activation for 7.
