I had this same thought to just build a surround to cover a cheap sauna and I knew someone had to have already tried it on the RU-vids. Looks great!

Nice size, really small size - exactly what I am considering... Fits in my shower-room.

My man. Good job, ditch the frame and fabric enclosure and hang the heaters on your wall. That plastic inside smelled god awful when I tested it.

Hey Matt! I watched many of your videos on sauna before embarking on this project. Thank you for all of that knowledge! I was debating keeping the original tent or just removing the heating panels and putting them in my box. Sounds like I should get rid of it... I was a bit suspicious of it already - definitely noticed the off-gassing too. I'll appreciate the little extra space, that's for sure.

MDF if full of nasty chemicals like you say dude . It's your health at risk . You did an amazing job with the build though.

Hey thanks for posting this video! Curious on what you used for flooring when you removed the tent? I have the same sauna and when I first got it I was concerned about the off gassing but thought maybe the hormetic stress of the heat would counteract any damage. XD Anyway, I'm 5'7" and even for me that space was *tight* so this looks like a good solution to get a little more space AND get rid of the plastic. Incidentally, another search I did on DIY saunas turned up a great vid on using a 6x6 grow tent with panels and heat lamps aaand that's when I realized I was basically sitting in a grow tent every day! So I'd love to get rid of the tent. I searched for an update on your new setup, apologies if I missed it, but this looks like a budget friendly way to do exactly what I want. You've got a new subscriber and I'll keep a lookout on an update if you post one!

Hey thanks for the comment! Because I had built my sauna to the same dimensions as the tent, I just cut the floor off of the tent and left a couple inches of the walls on it so that it won''t spill any sweat. I do wish I had made the sauna slightly bigger, but I'm not too bothered by the space. I might do an update soon to show the changes I've made and the bench I built for it.

Dude way to go T Po! I've got my eye on one eventually as well. I love them. When you referenced the MDF, it looked really thin then I saw the flexibility and cutting it.... Isn't that Masonite/HDF? Because Masonite/Hardboard/High Density Fiberboard (as opposed to MDF) Doesn't use any formaldehyde-based resins for the binding!! I think you should be all good!! 😁
@taylorpoe
@taylorpoe Год назад
Thanks! And yeah, I totally spaced that this is hardboard not MDF, so I was looking up the wrong material’s health concerns. Thanks for catching that!

Nice video and great work! I was thinking of doing nearly the same thing with the exact sauna from Amazon. I had the thought of getting rid of the tent completely and lining the inside of home built sauna with reflective insulation wrap over the foam board instead of the board you used and mounting the infrared heaters from the tent inside. Do you think this would be possible? - as far as removing the hardware from the tent and installing inside the home built sauna? Thank you for any reply! Also if you have any interest in a DIY cold plunge head over to my channel! I just post a DIY IBC tote plunge!

Very possible - I actually completely removed the tent after this video. realized it was better without it. I'm actually gonna remove the hardboard from the interiors and add these cedar strips to the inside in a Part II video soon. www.homedepot.com/p/American-Pacific-3-3-4-in-x-Random-Length-Aromatic-Red-Cedar-Shiplap-Planking-15-sq-ft-pkg-HD60-15S/319614105

@@highcountryoutdoor Yeah I just mounted the electrical unit on the back of m box and passed the wires in, then connected them to the panels which I just added some strips to hold them in place.

@@taylorpoe That's the temperature they advertise. When you said you added temp I was hoping it was more. I can't find any like this that get to 190-200 which is the range I'm looking for.
@taylorpoe
@taylorpoe 7 месяцев назад
@@Fynmarr look into infrared saunas versus normal dry saunas. Infrared doesn’t need to get as hot because it’s penetrating your body. Dry saunas need to be hotter because they just heat the outside of your skin.

Nicely done. Is it possible to take Matt's advice below and remove the fabric? If you wrap the HDF with some reflecting product that could help with longevity?
@taylorpoe
@taylorpoe Год назад
I tested out removing the tent and I lost 7-8° F of heat. Decided to put it back in. Refletix is a good idea. But I’d also need to work on sealing the door better. Tent doesn’t bother me too much, so I’m going to keep it for now. It’s biggest benefit is that it has a floor that is easily cleanable.
@taylorpoe
@taylorpoe Год назад
Update: I realized the temp loss was due to a plug not fully connected. Ended up removing the tent. Very happy I did - the extra space is appreciable.

@@FuryDoesIt I did get rid of the tent. Glad I did. Yeah you're not likely to get it up to 180º outside with this kit's heating panels. These are infrared panels that penetrate at lower temperatures versus traditional dry saunas that heat from the outside of the skin and need higher temps - ideally ~200º. Even at 140º with this kit i'm sweating pools.

I guess I need to look into it more I'm curently just going to the nasty 24 hour fitness sauna it's dry heat 180 and my heart rate hits 150 ish in like 10 min are u monitoring heart rate with a fitbit or anything I wonder if it's the same with your set up
