That LAX/Metro Transit Center station is huge. I like Skylink as the official name for the APM. Good choice LAWA. Thanks for another good update, and weathering the weather. 😀
The Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility is Facinating Their site says a rental car will be leaving the facility approximately every two seconds during peak activities, that is crazy good!
The K line station and the bus transit center will be open in late 2024. It'll just be the connection to the LAX APM that will be delayed to 2025. The new C/K operations should begin later this year where C line goes Norwalk to LAX and K line goes Expo/Crenshaw to Redondo Beach.
It's still not clear to me how the C and K line will connect. Will they both share the LAX/Metro Transit Center station along with the Skylink? Kind of like the A and E line share the 5 stations in DTLA? Or, will you need to transfer from the C line to the K line somewhere?
@@mrxman581 Apparently the C line will end at the LAX/Metro TC station. It will share the station with the K line. They'll also share the Century station. I presume you'll be able to transfer at either station. I thought they were going to share the Aviation station, but apparently they won't. My husband currently uses the C line to get from Crenshaw Station to El Segundo station. When the K line fully opens, he will have to go slightly out of his way to transfer to the K line, instead of being able to go all the way to El Segundo on the C line. I'm disappointed in that. It won't add a lot of extra time to his commute, but this is the kind of thing that makes people not want to use public transit. It goes where the system designers think it should go-- not where a person necessarily wants to go. Looks like that's what will happen with the "C line" extension to Torrance. It will actually be the K line, and it will have a station that's not near anything except a Target store. To get to other stores, people will have a hike across expansive parking lots. I still think it would make more sense to route it down Hawthorne Blvd., but of course that would cost a lot more and take a lot longer to build.
@@mrxman581 Yes, the C line will be rerouted upwards via a new wye constructed near the current Aviation/LAX station. From there it will share the two new stations with the K line, the LAX metro transit center and Aviation/Century. It'll be similar to the way the A and E lines share the DTLA stations.
I LOVE the name SkyLink for this. I'm proud of LAWA/LAX on getting this whole project together. It's a massive amount of work for any organization. Onwards to late 2024/early 2025!
Skylink? I like Peoplemover, but maybe that's too Disneyland-ish. It's so disappointing that the APM is being delayed for ?stupid? reasons. I hope the K line gets to fully open this year. Hurry up and wait.
Covid slowed down many construction projects due to supply constraint issues. Other projects that were to have started were put on hold for 3 years. Only now are they beginning to get back on track.
Horrible, but it's the rare exception and not the rule. There were 285 million boardings on the LA Metro in 2023 and a handful of serious crimes. That's almost as low as winning the lottery. However, very late at night (10pm+) or very early (4-6am) could be more dangerous. The security officers need to better patrol at these off peak hours even though there are less people. The poor woman who was killed was at the station around 5am. The killer was well known to other riders, and they knew he was mentally ill.
