You need to do the Golden Fox Work Boots 6" Men's Moc Toe Wedge Comfortable Boot for Construction it claims to have real leather welt “rust-6301” this one has 2 piece Moc toe
They are actually really good I used them for years. But the one thing that shows the price is the outsole. it starts to rub away slowly. If used 55 hours a week. The heel is at least 50% gone after 8 to 9 months.
That's honestly not too uncommon for a cheap polyurethane outsole. Even Carolina boots (2x the price) will lose the outsole at about that rate.@@LordMesa
@@LordMesa , Sureway boots are a lot better. Leather is very nice on the Sureway, but they dont cut the corners on construction. Sureway is like a Rockrooster without the weather welt. Rockroost is probably the best budge Moc Toe boot that can actually be best used as a work boot. Otherwise, Thorogood or Carolina is your next best bet in terms of quality, but I bet the Sureways will last just as long as the Thorogoods for less than half the price and will be just as comfortable. You can buy two Sureways for the price of a Thorogood, and you won't have to bother with resoling the first pair after it wears out.
I bought these 10 years ago. I even resoled them. The welt cracked in several spots, the fabric liner rubbed through, and two speed hooks broke off. But still they’re my beaters. Good for farm work, mowing grass, and roof repair. For the money it is a decent boot.
Thank you for mentioning Amazons effect on goods quality, I feel like people aren't talking enough about it. Amazon could be a great site to find whatever without digging through the trash modern search sites are, but instead it's just flooded with actual junk. Also, rock roosters are pretty solid to wear. I've worn two different pairs over the last few years, and I think they earn their most comfortable boot brag. First few days are terrible on the back of the heel, then they feel like slippers.
Sounds like this boot is a good way to Shane companies without the real Goodyear Welt construction. Like everything more expensive than this but still made in cheap labor countries should have equal or better construction techniques, and real leather if the $96 boot can do it.
The problem is that these crappy cheaper products LOOK just as good as more expensive, higher quality products...and when you're buying on Amazon, you cant feel the difference. So people think ''Hey, this looks just as good and is half the price of the other one!'', also people are not informed about quality and craftsmanship, most people dont know that leather exists on a quality spectrum. They just read: ''Genuine, best quality, oil tanned' and they're thinking its a catch. P.S. could you do the Mephisto Cruiser?
I am the guy that emailed you almost a year ago about how I got these boots for $30 on an auction site... They are a little worn for me but I am happy to find out that the construction is not too bad. Thanks for showing these. Matt
I'll keep these in mind. My apprentice went thru several pairs of crappy boots in a few months I got so tired of his boots falling part. I took him to boot barn and bought him a pair of thorogoods
@calebbaker9067 respect get respect. I expect a lot and demand a lot but demanding respect doesn't really get you anywhere I happened to know a little bit about what this guy was going thru so a decent pair of boots was a pretty small thing... and it made my life easier not to deal with his boot issues
Good on ya, ericlee. Did something similar for two of my son;s buddies I hored to do som work. Took a long lunch form the 109degF heat to buy some used army surplus boots to replace their worn out sneakers.
WARNING: they run very large. I’m an 11 and can get comfortable 10.5 for those brands that run large but even the 10 is a little loose. Definitely size down 1. They’re great beaters, I don’t mind getting wet and dirty. At their website Outlet, they are $40-60 but NOT returnable so size correctly. At those prices they’re very good.
Most of their work boots are made in china. But their american heritage boots are made here in ontario, california. You should feature those to compare to the american brands. For 199.99
I love this series. I’m all about bang for the buck. I don’t mind spending the money if it’s worth it. You honestly are saving me so much money by doing this series. I really appreciate it and the dedication and honesty you provide. Thank you!
I’m on my 2nd pair of Golden Fox Enzo’s. And I love them! They are not a moc toe. But, they’re the only boot I own, that gets a compliment EVERYTIME I wear them. Not to mention, the Enzo and the moc toe, in this review, are their entry level boots. They have a heritage line also, that is supposedly better made. You need to check those out!
Hello @roseanvil! Have you ever heard about Bonanza boot company from Mexico? They seem to be pretty decent moctoes for their price. It's only 120$ and this is even cheaper than Rockroosters from mexican amazon. Most importantly, they're made in Mexico, not Asia.
Finally, now I can comfortably work at my home office with a Flexispot desk while telecommuting to my construction job in my Golden Fox boots. The perfect combo.
I have a pair of the golden fox boondockers and they basically skipped the foam liner and used a very thick crêpe rubber outsole. It’s nice to know the GY welt claim is true and for 120 bucks that I got them for I’m pleasantly surprised that I got something good for my money. They’ve been one of my #1 boots since I got them last October. So minus the crumbly foam and the moc toe they are very similar and for 120 bucks it was a hard deal to beat
If the foam wasn't crumbling, it would actually be really nice for the price. Especially if you compare them to most sneakers (with fake leather or canvas for 100/150 dollars or more).
The foam is pretty difficult to access and doesn't really affect the experience of wearing the boot. It's buried within the leather of the boot. It definitely cheapens the feel of the boot to the touch, but the boot is constructed quite well for under $100.
Amazon may sell these but you can't wear them while working most jobs for the company, as composite toe safety shoes are required. Fortunately all employees get a $100 shoe credit from Zappos each year.
I have a pair of these and they're great for a quick put on boot for things like getting the mail, mowing the lawn, etc. I think I got mine for $70 bucks and they're as comfortable as a sneaker. Are they gonna last? Of course not. But for the price I can't actually complain
This series is so good you guys. I’m sold on supporting your business and I think I’m gonna grab one of your wallets or leather belts. Keep being awesome, good/honest Americans!!
I bought these boots as a beginner boot to test the waters and see if I wanted to move into higher quality boots. I bought the same golden fox boot but found one with no liner on the inside. I love it. I've been patiently waiting to see if you would get to this boot for moctober. The liner less version is the superior choice for this boot. Quick side note, golden fox offers a heritage moctoe boot and I believe they claim to be American made with better materials, like a leather welt. Keep up the great work, love what you do. Came for the cut up Converse years later and I'm still here for the boots. 🔥👍
Some of the features of this put larger brands that produce boots at a similar or slightly higher price range to shame. For that to have a goodyear welt, you begin to ask why other brands can't
I was curious about golden fox. I was looking at their boondocker because the spec sheet looked good and they're the same price as these. Interesting to see that they're actually worth the $100 and not crap like I was expecting for the price
I have a pair of these. Honestly, I've been really pleased with them. Comfort and looks at a budget friendly price. I don't wear them every day or use them for work but have used them often enough, wear is quite acceptable IMO.
I have a pair of Boondockers, they are comfortable and have been great for me, but haven't had them long enough to comment on longevity. Would love to see a Boondocker video here.
Splitting hairs perhaps, but I don’t believe they are saying their Moc toe design is two pieces, they are saying the design is derived from the Native American two piece design.
These Golden Fox Boots don't last more than a year. But I loved them. Super Comfortable. I get a $200 voucher a year for work and I just buy 2 pairs every year.
A great point made is that for people interested in this sort of boot that this is a cheap way to get into it to see if its something that makes sense. Too often people dive head first and buy something expensive/great then the boot just sits in the closet instead of doing what it does best. For $100 if you decide you aren't into it then it isn't like your throwing away much value if it sits in a closet not getting worn much at all.
I'm sure this has been said plenty before but get at them duraderos edit: mine are already en route🤞 🤞 double edit: actually please don't cause I'm going they are good and stay cheap and as soon as you put it in blast they will take off
I have these and I wear them as a casual boot for work around my house and just out. I really like them, they are not high end, but they are comfortable and have been reliable for me.
I m in painting/drywall and i like these because I want a boot i can take a firm brush to get paint and mud off,and knowing I m not destroying a pricey work boot. I have a different model that has none of that cheap lining inside. All in all a good cheap boot that serves its purpose.
40+ years ago I was hired by a Federal Government engineering agency, on day one they provided me safety equipment including a set of boots made by prison labor. Was a little uncomfortable with that but frankly they were the best boots I've ever had. Lasted for decades; only got rid of them because the damage to the thread due to construction site material and just needed the space (ie didn't want to move them again).
Not bad, I would try a pair out if it had no lining and just rough out, 30 years of wearing legit leather boots I can’t stand any lining other than leather
I personally own two pairs of golden fox boots , I have these in black , there actually pretty decent boots , I wanted black redwing moctoes but didn’t want to spend 3-4 hundred on them LoL, so I went with these , there good casual boots but wouldn’t use them for work , I do own several pairs of redwing heritage boots and PNW boots , so from a guy that owns real boots , these aren’t too bad for $100 bucks , I would recommend them
I did the same. I have about 30 pairs of boots and am lucky to wear each pair once a month. I love the look of the black Red Wing moc toe but couldn't justify paying that price for a boot that I'm going to wear 12 times per year. I had a hole in my collection of a black toe moc, so went with a black pair of Golden Fox's. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these and get the look that I want at decent quality and a low price.
I live in Taiwan. There is a local company, here in Taichung, that hand-makes boots that are meant to be nearly identical to more expensive boots from around the world. I have two pairs of boots from them, one is essentially the Red Wing Iron Ranger, the other is the Red Wing 875 Moc Toe. Both seem to be very good quality. I've worn the Iron Ranger clones for nearly two years in serious work environments (construction, demolition, metal fabrication, etc) and had zero issues. The crazy thing is that they cost about $100 to $120 (depending on the current exchange rates). I wish there was a way for you to cut one of those in half.
If they still made the regular AP611, the Rock Rooster from a couple years back would certainly be a better choice. As is, the VAP611, which is the same boot with a vibram outsole instead of their multi-layer one, is up to $130.
I have these Golden Fox boots. I also have Red Wing, Thorogood, Carolina's, etc... I am placing an order for the White's soon. I will say that I prefer and mostly wear the Golden Fox vs. the more premium brands! Here is what I like about the GF: Much lighter in weight than the other more premium brands (I was surprised you didn't mention this?); I don't like speed laces on shorter boots, I prefer eye-lets (the only other boot with eye-lets is the Redwing); Very comfortable; I like a liner in the boot. I live in Western Oregon and it would cost over $100 to have someone reputable (40 miles away) re-sole these boots with a Vibram sole. I suspect GF made a similar boot years ago that was branded by Cabelas. I wore the Cabelas daily on a 1 year house remodel project. The uppers wore great. The sole was different than the current GF and wore-out (became dangerously smooth and slick). I think the GF soles are wearing much better. It didn't seem like a good value to resole a boot this inexpensive. So, I bought the GF and all the other more premium boots to do my own compare. You need to remember that the GF boot is less expensive than a tennis shoe and more comfortable! .
If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life.
The stock market rally run is gone, but I'm not sure if equities will swiftly recover, keep falling, or fluctuate in a narrow range for a few weeks, or if things will quickly get worse. I'm under pressure to increase my $85k reserve.
I have made 45k, 72k and got my eyes on 120k profit , Champagne stays popping,Mrs Maria is too awesome people prefer to spend money on liabilities rather than investing in assets and be very profitable
No doubt mrs maria williams trading Services is very good, I invested $5,000 and cashed out $25,700 after 3 weeks. I still wonder how she got her analysis
I have the Rockrooster blundstone chelsea workboot (reinforced rubber toe cap) copies and they are better than blundstones! Way more comfy and at least as durable. I have had both and when I wore my blundstones out I went with Rockrooster and have been exceptionally surprised. I am stoked to see their moc toe breakdown.
Thank you for video, I wear the boon dockers for work around the house . Yes the leather is thinner and I replaced insoles. I wear them in oil surfaces , good. The price you can also get on golden fox web site. Thank you, again; and after working in stiff leather boots all day , the soft boon dockers are ok with me. I do have Wolverine 1000 mile boots for dress, but for around 100 dollars or so I like the Golden fox…
Can you check out the "Stacy Adams Madison" please!? It's an iconic low budget dress boot in 1920s-Style... known from Movies & TV like Peaky Blinders, The Knick, Ryan Gosling in Drive & Only God Forgives... but there is little information on RU-vid about them
Excelente review, as always. I'd love to see the cut and your comments for DURADERO boots and BONANZA boots. Both made in México for the US market. ¡¡PLEASE!! those are next.
I have a 6 year old pair of Wolverine cemented steel toes that were about this same price. The leather has held up well, the fabric lining has held up well and they have been on my feet through many miles of woods, asphalt and gravel. This pricepoint of boot holds up well and is comfy for working. The downside is the outsoles are worn out, but after 6 years I'm not mad about it. Still work fine as garage boots.
Amazon isn't really responsible for the quality of their merchant's merchandise, not directly anyway....think of Amazon as more like Facebook Marketplace..
As with all the things you do, an EXCELLENT video. HOWEVER for these boots, I feel that you should have taken more time to see that the removable insoles must be THE MOST COMFORTABLE on the market - unless someone can advise me otherwise. About twice a month, I need to spend 10 hours continuously on my feet all day while I give presentations and I take the insoles and use them in other boots or shoes. Golden Fox does sell these separately but unfortunately Amazon does not and Golden Fox will not send them to me here in Brasil.
Made in China, No Thank you. I’ll spend my hard earned American Money on American made boots. I usually buy Thorogoods, but just picked up a pair of red wing 877’s. I’ll gladly spend a little more to support Americans, I usually spend $100 and re sole every 18 months, so I get my money’s worth out of every pair.
Before i watch the whole thing..... PLEASE slam this boot and say it's junk! Cuz if not these will be $150 tm! I have a pair of these as my casual winter boots. And even if i only get 2 winters out od them, about 8 months total...... then it's a win! Heck 1 summer is a win cuz you would still save money over $350 boots that you get redone every 3 years for $100.
I have over 40 pairs of boots and felt like I needed a pair of black moc toes to add to the mix. Since I have a large rotation going, I decided to go with a less expensive pair that I knew wouldn’t get a lot of use. I found a pair of these same Golden Fox’s in black on sale for $70 last year. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Are they the best constructed boots I have? No, but don’t need them to be. For a fashion, knock around boot that I wear 1-2 times a month, they serve their purpose well. I just picked up their Boondocker and Overland boot on sale as I’ve heard they are decent, budget service boot. For someone looking to get into boots, Golden Fox is a great place to start out as you can’t beat the value.
You should check out the 8" King Rocks boot. King Rocks is another brand by Golden Fox. Their 8" moc toe is unlined, but otherwise very similar. IMO they are far superior to Thorogood's in the comfort department. Thorogood's are too heavy and too expensive. Also Thorogood soles start out thinner, and thin out faster. I am on my 4th pair of King Rocks 8" Moc Toes, and have the 6" moc toe pair from this video which I wear casually, and a 6" plain toe boot they make which has a waterproof lining. They are all great. I do construction (polished concrete and industrial floor coatings).
Amazon has a $120 steel toe logger by Sureway. They look identical to Carolina Spruce loggers. Reviews seem to be good, but not by boot people. I'm genuinely curious how they're built.
Sears $86 DieHard Moc Toe is/was the GOAT of bargain Mocs. I think they go by the brand "Handpoint" on their site now? Goodyear welted, pig skin lining, dual density outsole so it doesn't wear fast etc...
Thanks for another great review. I know that we're already halfway through Moctober, but can we squeeze in one more review? The Russell Moccasin Company makes a boot called the Backcountry I'd love to see reviewed. Thanks much!
I’m a thorogood boot guy ,but I bought the round toe golden fox 8” and I really like them..I kinda think the sole is tougher then thorogoods..and the leather is pretty good! Thorogoods are up to almost 300 bucks ..And those Thorogood soles wear out very quick..I’m kinda liking my 100$ boots ..
When discounted, Sureway Moc Toe Boot is even cheaper than these....whats ur take on those?? Duradero is 90$ more, but you get your first resole and recondition free...thats 90$ savings for sure....
Can you do more pull on work boots like the Men's Timberland PRO® True Grit Waterproof Comp-Toe Pull-On Boot compared to the Redwing Rio flex 11-inch pull on boot. I said these two specifically because they are some of the ones that my work allows me to have. Love the show just want to see a few more pull on boots rather than lace up.
From Amazon is not really a good description. I get it is sold on Amazon but it is not a Amazon product. It gets the views. I understand. But this is a little misleading. Would you call a White's boot sold at Baker's, a Baker's boot? Edit: Jim Green also sells on Amazon....
Conversion wise these should be 192ish aud delivered, however when you go through to the Amazon Australia site for some reason it's jumps to 335ish aud. Fkin disgusting.
Love this series of bargain mocs! I have a pair of Ever Boots, that have been pretty darn good. Would love to see you test/cut apart a pair of those. They’e unlined and none of that pitiful foam that we saw on these.
Half that price at about $50. How about cutting the Rhino Moc Toe boots. I wore them in the 90’s and I know roofers wear them now because they are cheap. Rhino 62M28 6 inch Moc Toe Leather Work Boot
On the topic of cheaper boots, I've been wearing the wolverine moctoe ultraspring something something for a year and they've held up great so far. I'd love to see them cut in half
I'm 6'9 - I don't think there's a standing desk made that'd work for me - even if there were, by the time it was high enough, my monitor would have been crushed by the ceiling as my house is Victorian, made for people under 6' tall. Shame, because I prefer to stand if possible. As for the boots, I was expecting a dud to be honest.
Cheapest boot that has a real goodyear welt? Definitely would purchase a better boot for like $150-$200. At least depending on the use case. My work boots are in the are of $170 these days.
are there any safety toe boots that look good for under 200-300$ *cheaper the better* that you'd recommend or any one would recommend. i been wearing the 40$ walmart boot "Brahma Men's Alpha Waterproof 6" Steel Toe Work Boots" for about 3 years. each set lasts about 8 months to a year for me. I just really wanna take the plunge into a nice boot but there are so many choices and every time im like "but if i go with this i get this" i'd prefer something with a heal or "shovel" heal type thing
I disagree with a valuation. I understand that you are comparing products to others of similar cost, and that is fair, but it misses a broader point. $100 boots are worth $100, in my opinion. There are weak links in boots made cheaply, like that lining foam that has dried and crumbled in the time it took to get from factory to consumer. These failures will cause the boot to need replacement sooner that boots made with better products. Yes, there are people who would rather just buy a new pair every year rather than repairing an existing pair, but the cost per wear goes sideways and then backwards. A $100 pair every year is $500 in five years, versus, what, $350 with one resole over that same stretch for boots with better parts. There well may be people that will destroy a boot in a year regardless of parts, so I get that there's a market. But it doesn't really make it better. You can get single-year work boots for half that price all over. No, they aren't Goodyear welted, but again, that doesn't matter if you're only getting them for a year. And here you've got a Goodyear welted boot that won't really compete with the round up of good boots, so what's the point? I guess the point is to mislead people into buying a short-life disposable boot thinking their getting a really good one. An example outside of work boots. I bought a pair of Keene hiking boots. These are highly regarded within the hiking community. They are cemented, but I doubt that glue will fail. And the soles were very rugged. I wore them a lot for hiking over a couple years, and could hardly notice the wear on the soles. But the lining wore through in places. This happened in spite of my standard care when taken them on and off, and the practice of rotating boots so they got rest. The lining wore through, which would be an expensive fix, exceeding the cost of replacement. All it takes is one cheap part failing to do this.
Review the Sureway Moc Toes or any of the other Sureway boots. They sell like crazy on Amazon and I think they are closer to the Rockrooster Moc Toe boot your reviewed a few years ago. I would also like to see a review of my Georgia boots... like their Dominican made wedge sole and their American made wedge sole to see if there is any differences in construction. I would also like to see reviews on a Chippewa boots... they have plenty of products and are built as well as Carolina and Thorogood boots. I think Chippewa is owned by the same company as Carolina, but I could be wrong.
@RoseAnvil I would love it if you tested some Durango cowboy boots! They were fairly popular at my school in Alaska and seemed to last alright. Most folks wore the rebels which was their more budget brand I believe.
I would like you to do a video on Bonanza, QLTY , Durodero which offers a free resole? All these moc toes are under $200. It would be great for mOctober
I keep trying to see if you reviewed any sureway boots designed in the United States made in China. Amazon has been pushing them pretty hard the last few months and I was curious cuz the majority of the reviews in decent but you know how reviews can go with Amazon. Really wanted to break down of these boots because they're on sale for about $60 and have less complaints than the wolverine mock toes that look a lot like them I really like it. Wolverine dura shocks and have a very nice moc toe put the reviews and pictures of damage after only about 6 weeks of light. Use look pretty bad with leather ripping at stitching lines, toe separation other stuff
