Take a walkthrough of our latest project, a million-pound house in Nottingham, where we've implemented strategies to enhance efficiency and maximize profits. We've focused on techniques that save time without compromising quality, ultimately boosting turnover.
One of our key strategies involves upgrading basic painting methods by utilizing spray techniques, which deliver a superior finish. This not only elevates the property's financial value but also enhances its overall aesthetic appeal with a more professional touch. Our choice of Tikkurila products has been instrumental in achieving our desired results.
Embracing the philosophy of working smarter, not harder, has been central to our approach. By streamlining processes and adopting innovative solutions, we've optimized our workflow to achieve optimal results in less time.
For those looking to replicate our success, consider exploring the tools and paints available in our Amazon store, accessible via the link below. These resources can help streamline your next project and maximize your returns.
I now have a Amazon StoreFront*, please have a look.

Great video. You're doing exactly what I'm doing now - working smarter, not harder! Hopefully more videos like yours will get decs thinking about pricing and valuing themselves better so they're not undercutting others massively.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Can you recommend a good solvent based exterior and interior paint?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@@rachelbailey52 hhhmmmm not really. lol why do you want an oil based paint?
@rachelbailey52
@rachelbailey52 Год назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator Because exterior water based paint isn't as hard-wearing as oil based.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@@rachelbailey52 do you think? Currently on an outside, now our 4 time here . Always been done in F&B exterior eggshell. Stands up very well. Some paint comes away from the wood in areas you'd expect to cause issues.. even if it's oil paint. Same with a. Job last week... Done the out side over the years in OIL.. guess what... Still comes off. So this time we've done it in Isomat Aqua.. and you wouldn't know if it was oil or water once wed finished. It'll stand up no worse that the oil .... Plus quicker to dry and apply. So don't dismiss waterbased paints. We use them a lot.

Thanks. It's all meant to be light hearted, with me trying to get painters and decorators like us, thinking on the same lines. If I can help one person this year to work better and improve their work life balance.... I'd be pleased.

I have a three bedroom house, the whole house is been redecorated, all the woodwork gloss needs to be keyed up, skirting, door casing, doors, I'm using 120 gritt by hand at the moment, feels like hard work, going to use scuff x satin brushed on as the finishing coat , but is there a better or quicker method, maybe using a detail sander or a sheet sander, or is that going to over key it?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
Prep is the key... it's a pain... But give it all a good sand down by hand and dust off, it'll be worth it. ScuffX is a two coat finish

Great video, lovely job. How much more paint are you using by spraying?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 3 года назад
I can't say I'm using any more than I allow when pricing the job. A 10ltr tub if tikkurila AR2 has 9ltrs in it to allow for water top up. Then using the right spray tip.. it's bit using anything excessive. A larger orifice would use more paint as it delivers more out of it.

Hi Phil Great video like usual. Quick question. I have water damage ceiling. I have painted with Zinsser Bin 5 coats 30min between and on next day the stains back. Do you think because the plaster/plasterboard have to replace or maybe I have to try oil based primer or paint over the stans Thanks
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
Good question to ask. I take it the leak has been fixed and the area is dry? A coat of oil undercoat will work Or get a rattle can of PolyCell Stain block... Give it two nice even coats I've never had that fail. I'm surprised 5x coats of BIN hasn't held it off. Have you seen my video on Zinnser 123+ which is a water stain blocker? May need three coats and to the eye it looks like it's not covering the stain. But once you paint over it all with two coats of you emulsion paint, the stain has been held back by the 123+.
@war3405
@war3405 Год назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator maybe this is the reason. It's still wet deep inside or is not been fixed properly from outside.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
Yep. That's more the problem if it's not been fixed. Then needs to dry out.
@Chudz_1
@Chudz_1 Год назад
If the customer wants the ceilings doing would you always go with a sprayer? Great content btw!
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
That depends on how big the job is and if it's worth getting the sprayer out. If a number of ceilings. Or a ceiling with ornate cove, it's worth it.
@guyrosin19
@guyrosin19 3 месяца назад
Let’s say for instance, (and this is just a price I plucked from thin air) you are charging £6m2 for prep and apply two coats of emulsion to a ceiling (brush and roller price standard) how would approach it? Remember you are procuring for the job not the time taken 😉

Do you prefer the tikk everal over the helmi top coats,
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 3 года назад
NO real preference, the Everal Aqua 40 does have a nice satin sheen to it though.
@war3405
@war3405 Год назад
Also Optiva 5 is that can cover over white walls with dark blue in two coats without primer ?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
I'd say it may need a 3rd coat. if you have vast contrast in colour change in many paints you may look and see some grinning or a bit see through mottled effect from a roller. When pricing.. I also say, an extra coat my be needed and charged for if it doesn't go for two coats when a big colour change is taking place.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
You do find Matt paints cover better than soft sheen or silk paints. Bare that in mind too.
@war3405
@war3405 Год назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator thanks Phil ! One coat Matt in same or similar colour and two coats Optiva 5
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@@war3405 I don't like mixing and matching paints. If it's needs a primer coat.. keep with Tikkurila. I've no problems allowing Optiva5 to have a third coat if needed. Lease it's nice to work back over lol Don't try using a cheap contact emulsion mixed to a bit darker to save a few quid. Keep with a more compatible Tikkurila paint.

Hi phill what do I need to clean the solvent based kolorbond from my gun?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 года назад
Solvent... You mean the one that dries in minutes?... Which is like a spirit/cellulose based. So clean out with the cellulose gun cleaner. It's cheap enough.
@Shortboxing47
@Shortboxing47 2 года назад
Would turps clean it then?
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 года назад
@@Shortboxing47 no, cus turps is like white spirit and that's the thinner for oil based paints.

you get a lot of than on domestic work water finishing coats being put over old oil and woodstains varnishes people think you can stick any paint on any surface they dont realise theres quite a bit to it. give people a specification customers say found someone cheaper i ask did they give you a specification they say no. all they care about is the cheapest price makes my blood boil sometimes.
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 года назад
you've hit the nail on the head. Times many you hear this, then say.. is it the same spec as ours..... they go quite. But they only look at the price.

Good tradespeople value what they do by investing in tools, training and time on the tools. If you are a good tradesperson your work will speak for itself. As a guide if you value your time at a third more than what people would like to pay it shows the world what you value - which is being properly paid to be able to deliver that quality of work. Some people will respect that and understand (you want them as your customers), some people won’t and they will just want the cheapest rate (as long as you stick to your guns you can afford to not have them as your customers). Good luck 👍

If your the cheapest quote diffrent customers kept telling you , then your too cheap!! Shouldnt be winning every quote theres something wrong with pricing if you are.
