That Christmas Dinner sounds disgraceful. I would certainly complain to the manager especially charging those prices. So sorry to hear you lost your mum.Lost my dad recently, his funeral was last Monday and lost mum last year so I know how you feel.Lets hope 2024 is a better year.
I couldn’t agree more and tbh looking at that table you wouldn’t think it was decorated for Christmas. The amount Simon paid they deserved better. Ik down south it’s much dearer but I bet next year they’ll be able to find a more nicer place for cheaper

It's generally the case the posher the place looks, they'll have your eyes out. Every 20 k wedding I've been to has been crap for service quality and beer price. All the best Simon keeps the vid's coming as they're most enjoyable.

That hotel was about as festive as a damp bonfire night in Merthyr Tydfil. I would have offered them what you thought the meals were worth (£5 a head max).
Had a similar experience at a well known Hotel in Bedford. We actually stayed Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. Christmas Dinner was appalling - turkey on a roll and the so called pavlova was a meringue nest with a bit of fruit. I did complain and even the staff were in tears as they couldn’t cope with the number of complaints and people leaving. I didn’t pay for either of the meals on Christmas Day or Boxing Day. You definitely should have complained there and then. I really hope you get some compensation.
Simon. So sorry to hear about your mum. My sincere condolences to you. I lost my mum in March 2021 but still expect to see her when i visit my dad. All the best for 2024 thought my friend.
My uncle once booked Holiday Inn for Xmas dinner and it was around same price and just as awful , never book hotels anymore for events , instead go to local pubs as they need the business and wont rip you off.
It’s nearly impossible to get your money’s worth out of anything these days! Even when you pay a arm and a leg for something you’d expect to get top notch treatment!
Well Simon, get all your family over to Whitby for excellent Christmas food. Our local Grosmont Ladies Club had a Christmas meal at Sneaton Castle and wow what a meal we had. Nothing was too much trouble, there was so much food and the choice of vegetables was outstanding. All the courses were imaginative and above all appetising. The surroundings are beautiful and magical, give it a try.

Thought we had a bad do at Papa's in Whitby this Xmas Eve. But ours was a banquet in comparison to that shite up at Woodlands. We too only live about 15 mins away from there. Never been but heard good reports of it in the past. We only drove past it on Saturday on the way into Leeds for a days drinking sesh. Hope all the family get better ASAP fella. Next door to the bank, or next door but one, there used to be a fish restaurant called Mills Café. I remember going there as a young man on holiday with mum and dad 50 years ago, it was quite superb

Really hope Mrs M ( and the rest of the party) feels better soon, Covid is a horrible thing. As for that venue they need to pull their socks up and offer you a refund or a do over. I know you have more important things to think about and I admire your sense of humor in the face of a pantsing but really, ninety quid covered three days meals for three in our house and that included three jars of home made cranberry jelly!

If you've had 2 previous xmas dinners / lunches at the same place and the first was just fine, the second was just ok but not great, why on earth would you book to go there a 3rd time????
TBH you got more then sense , there are pensioners life myself that couldn’t even afford a £4.99 cook from frozen dinner and you wasted nearly £2000 on a meal . Disgusting!!!

I went to the Freemasons (secret) Christmas meal last year, £30 per head we had one sprout each, and it was butterflied in half to make it look like more, 2 pieces of carrot one slice of turkey and a gravy boat between six people we were almost fighting over it 🤣. Mind it still makes good conversation and something to laugh about. You have to complain otherwise they'll continue to rip people off. Leave Google review. Never seen your vids before, firstly so sorry to hear you lost your Mum. A few years back we also had a bad experience eating out Christmas day, The Cauli was so hard, that Uncle John put his fork in and it shot up and hit the ceiling. The potatoes were cold and were deep fried but soggy. Those that had beef found sinew in the meat and it was so chewy it was inedible. My turkey was lovely and tender but was totally cold. Prawn cocktail for starters I had 6 prawns - uncle John had 20 (so that cheesed me off) Anyway, we complained and got vouchers for a free meal to go back there. (that time I had a steak that must have come from an oap cow lol) PLEASE COMPLAIN AND ASK FOR COMPENSATION. Brill vid tho, what a disgusting rip off.

So that works out at £80 a head if you said 22 people as I recall? Absolutely disgraceful if the food was as you described. I think in these situations it may be a case of the management offering more than the staff can provide....That or just pure and simple profiteering. OK I haven't watched the video, & in no way am I taking sides here, but I guess it depends on how many people were in your group & if you ordered expensive wine, secondly surely you saw the prices in the Menu?
19 were booked, but 2 were missing due to illness. As the video title states.. drinks were not included. Yes we saw the prices and the menu prior to booking and paying up front.

I am absolutely gob smacked over the years I have been to pub Christmas lunches and l have never been disappointed and the Christmas decorations were always fantastic if l had gone there well l think l might have had the screaming habdabs Happy New Year

I must say that booking a suitable venue for a Christmas day meal & receiving good food & service is a minefield. Thinking on, not to add salt to your wounds & looking at that food & service you received . I think you would've done much better booking a table at your local spoons. Me & Mrs k had a great Christmas dinner at home with our son & his girlfriend. Hey ,Hey Simon I do hope that hotel is watching this & that they're hanging their heads in shame after seeing this Review. Well I think it's a bad mistake going for nosebag on Christmas day your paying far too much money even if you get a good meal which you didn't. I think you would have been better off going out for a nice meal in January/February time when these places are a lot quieter it will cost you a lot less money and you will undoubtedly get a better meal and service then you could buy Mrs M an E scooter to get around on the money you have saved.
First off Simon, let me say how sad i felt about the death of your mother, always a blow😢That and getting "Mugged " Bloomin'eck did you kick a black cat.Were the staff all wearing masks, carrying bags marked " swag ??" Can't really put in to words,how bad that looked or sounded. As ex- job( retired chef) things can go belly up.😮But did you visit the stables? Cos dem der cowboys didn't ride into town. Hi Simon, sorry to hear that. I live in Australia. I think this is what people mean when they say the Brits make terrible , stodgy food. They go to a hotel like this one and hang on to that bad memory forever. I was in England in 2017 , stayed in Ongar , caught the bus to Epping , and the train to all parts of London , and found that the food was great , cheap eats included like the famous Bagel shop in Brick Lane.
