Selco Kitchen Renovation / Refurbishment / Remodel / UK Budget DIY Tiling Makeover Before and After.
Instagram for daily updates - / 1936_bungalow_renovation
If you like my content, I’d very much appreciate a donation of a coffee - www.buymeacoff...
This was a really exciting project for us, turning a bland cheap IKEA handleless kitchen into a beautiful Victorian style shaker kitchen from Selco. The tiling, herringbone flooring, range cooker in the old fireplace and bespoke shelving truly make this one of the nicest kitchens we have renovated!
This project took around a month and cost in and around £14,000 to the customer. Below are the main costs -
Selco Units - Cornwall Shaker Onyx Grey - £3000
Selco Worktop - Minerva - £1700
Metro Tiles - Topps Tiles - £225
Thornbury Tiles - Topps Tiles - £240
Brick Slip Tiles - Brickslips.co.uk - £368
Herringbone Flooring - luxuryflooringandfurnishings.co.uk - £500
Underlay - £30
Microwave - CDA Selco - £200
Dishwasher - CDA Selco - £240
Rangemaster Cooker - Selco - £1800
Sink and Tap - Selco - £325
Handles - Selco - £90
Plumbing - £500
Electrical - £500
Tiler & Carpentry - £3000
Miscellaneous - Shelving/Artwork etc - £500
LED Under Counter Lighting - Toolstation - £60
Pendants - Industville - Brooklyn Dome Pendant and Lamps - £218

I like your videos and content I've watched a few now, you need to step up your camera quality + lighting + add an external mic, add some music to your time lapses, it wouldn't cost much and would have a massive impact on your channel, keep it up!

Looks Great, but when that boiler goes wrong how can the Gas Engineer fix it as there is no access to repair
@effervescence5664
@effervescence5664 4 года назад
Probably find it doesn't comply with the boiler manufacturers instructions. Most want 600mm infront of the boiler casing to be able to work on it, have seen a manufacturers engineer refuse to work on one under guarantee before because of it until it was rectified.
@john_smith1471
@john_smith1471 3 года назад
And i'm sure the boiler should be kept in its metal casing, this has been removed and is now surrounded in a wood chipboard carcass.

no wonder they wanted it changed , those cheap nasty ikea special kitchens , not even the nice ones , the cheapest most basic kitchen , not even as good quality as a housing authority would put in , got to wonder about people , some things you do once and do well , its like coffee you never buy the cheapest coffee , its so disapointing , worse with a very cheap nasty kitchen is the fact it will not last , honestly you would be better buying a secondhand good quality kitchen on line than wasting money on basically cardboard , i know a couple that where doing a total rebuild of a delapidated house and got a kitchen free of freecycle and it was all real wood and would cost a fortune , it was not the colour they wanted so they sanded it and painted it , i admit i would not paint a real wood kitchen but its no longer fashionable i guess , they have an amazing kitchen and no one would guess it was not put in brand new , honestly if cost is an issue then think outside the box and do not buy cheap crap that will last a couple of years if your lucky before the handles start working loose and the formica starts to seperate , its a pointless waste of cash , look on places that sell secondhand stuff and also look at the tip , you will be shocked at what is dumped at english tips, and it can be steam cleaned

I would have moved the radiator next to the refrigerator cabinet, and then did a corner unit by the sink, along with a pantry cabinet on that big wall. Another thing, is up to the ceiling cabinetry only a thing here in the US? I just haven't seen it a lot on the UK kitchen videos.

Personally I think the fridge and surrounding units would have looked much better remaining on the right hand wall.. it sticks out and really distracts the eye from the range.. but as long as the clients love it that is all that matters.

Why do the radiator pipes (in the kitchen) go into the floor? Better if they go into the wall no? Also, why not go for tall wall units- 900mm?
@mickbitchum4664
@mickbitchum4664 4 года назад
Looks fantastic but it's really not a good idea fitting cupboards like that around the boiler. If that boiler packs up half the units will have to be removed to get it out and the client will be extremely unhappy... I'm only speaking as an electrician, but i know how awkward it is when consumer units get boxed in.

So will that huge fridge always stand 4” proud of the shelving or can it be pushed back flush? That would irritate me no end.

The fridge existed and owner wanted to retain it so they worked with it, but an integrated fridge freezer would have looked seamless and gone better.

Fabulous reno!!! That's what I love about the kitchens across the pond....you can sell them and get new ones. Here is America, we rip them out and send them to the landfill....or, if they can be salvaged, we donate them to The Habitat Store or put them in our workshops. I lived in Germany many years ago and they delivered a kitchen! Loved it!

A huge improvement to the layout and I like the shaker style look but I don’t like the dark coloured shelving/units etc as the room doesn’t get enough natural light. But if you like it that’s all that matters 👍🏻😊

Apart from the inaccessible boiler and maybe a little too much tiling I think this looks great. It’s in keeping with the age of the property but modern too. I think I would have gone for some taller wall cupboards seeing as there’s the ceiling height. The units seem a good price.

Great design and build - well done! My only question is about the extraction to the chimney. Doesn't a liner need to be fitted??? Also even with a liner I have heard theere can be bad problems with condensation, it is a long way for the hot moist air to go before it gets to the top.
@effervescence5664
@effervescence5664 4 года назад
Yeah, as a gas engineer I picked up on this, all I can think of is the cooker/hob is using a re-circulation hood, the more worrying part is a hood is supposed to be 760mm above the hob unless the manufacturer states otherwise. But yeah normally it would be a insulated chimney liner.

LED warm white GU10 lights and fittings are best. Can get them from Screwfix or Toolstation for around £6 to £10 per downlight. They also do under counter “cabinet lights” that are around £30 for 4 at Toolstation.
