UK is like lucky to have you. If you are in SF bay area in California you will have a waiting list of clients miles long. Hard to find a good and honest tech.
@dboatrig All German car manufacturers signed an agreement, that they build stocks up to 12 years, if I recall that correctly. Means, that you can roughly get parts till 20 years after the car was build. And that's from Audi, the non OEM producers will provide them even longer.
@dboatrig I sold my Audi TT Quattro last year, which was then 21 years old. My most expensive bill was about 300,00 €. No rust at all and was sitting most of the time outside. That thing was bulletproof.
Love your content! Your level of knowledge and professionalism is second to none. Having a garage as knowledgeable as yours is a life saver for us petrol heads as main dealerships are zero use at all
He is a great man, I called him from United Arab Emirates to ask him about my AUDi A7 and he guided me through and gave me very good advices… he is the best!!
I don't own an Audi, but I have watched a few of your great videos with you and your friend and have a serious man crush. Joking aside, your professionalism, skill, and knowledge are superb. I think a lot of folk are beginning to realise that locating a specialist is far better than trusting a main dealership a lot of the time
In AU/NZ, the V6s in the B9 has proven reliable so far with my local garage saying they haven't seen as many issues compared to the other engines. The B9 platform in general is plagued by thermostat, waterpump, and sensor issues though (typical Audi). I've subscribed and very eager to see more B9 content.
Waiting for the next video. Very interesting situation. You guys are the real mechanics who really do diagnostics rather than Part Replacers. Audi Heros!!!!
When I heard you saying the car apparently is going to need a new engine I was like hell no, I don’t believe that. Not long after, the car starts even tho there is some knocking. Thank you for these videos because I’m learning a thing or two. Waiting for the next video
Great work! I own a 2018 Audi S5 B9 petrol (45k km/28k miles), so I am hyped for all your S/RS content on the B9 platform.👏 But hopefully not too much, as it will mean they break down a lot. 😄
Situation 2,000,875! You verify that dealerships are at often times looking for massive profits over customer service/truth. You're a great mechanic with honor and integrity.
@@uncleTedLol Well compared to the Audi engineers 😀 whose option was to replace the whole engine - I bet VAG are the hard-core engineers.. The rest is just the rest 😴
Hello Gents, top content like always! I'm glad that my car coming to VAG Technic professionals very soon! Hope the cost wouldn't be massive 😉 Waiting for second part 👍
Really interesting issue with this engine. Not an old car or a high mileage either. I look forward to you discovering the cause. BTW the wiring harness and coil packs on these 2.9s is a right mess. I had a bad spark plug on my V8 S5 and thought it was a bit of a job to work the packs and plugs out, but this engine is way worse! Thank god for VCDS as it saved me a crap ton of work figuring out which cylinder was affected.
I had an Audi s3, bought with low ks and full history and it was a beautiful car but had gremlin after gremlin. Was great when it was going well but it seemed nobody knew enough about it to keep it that way.
I'm wondering if the dealer found it jumped timing and then immediately wrote "new engine" because they don't deal with internal repairs unless certain conditions apply (ie: oil consumption fixes, no piston to valve contact, etc.). I would check the physical timing of the engine, especially ince the cam sensors were pulled. It's probably electronic or electrical, but this way one can rule out a timing jump. We also need to see all the error codes.
Great work guys! Today mechanic are not mechanic anymore, they can only replace parts instead of diagnosing a car. They only want to do brake jobs nowadays. Shame on Audi
I think that the dealership drain the oil, and seeing the bearings from that lifter rocker. And the metal from those rollers. You did not see them because if they change the oil. So I wonder if any of the material from those roller rocker or in bearings are in anything that is destined to destroy the engine later.
No wonder I won't go near a main dealer! And also people have little trust in them.....so called experts my arse 😭 that customer should go right back to them and threaten them with court for outright theft! Well done again lads 🔥🔥🔥
Fascinating video...what us old school mechanics would call a head scratcher....needs a new engine because it won't start...???....no wonder they call them main stealers...they are complete rip offs....can't wait to see the next video to see what the mechanical issue(s) are..👍👍
I've had my audi A5 b8,5 3.0 tdi 245 quattro from brand new, and now after 270.000km I started looking at replacing the chain (preventatively) and audi quoted me 10.000 euros, where Darkside quoted me half that. Prolly about time to sell it to some young lad and buy a 2018-2019 S7 (the last years where they put in 4.0 tfsi, which not only sounds amazing, but also easily goes to 550-570bhp 800-830nm within stage 1, which is the safezone limit for the s-tronic of 1000nm)
Looks like there was some damage on the end if the cam sensor you replaced, has the tone ring on the cam shifted so it's giving the wrong cam/crank correlation?
I have a rs4 avant with 40.000 miles still has original front rotors, runs sweet perfect very fast beast, cat s from co part, I have sorted minor front splitter damage could have repaired but replaced with Audi new parts, pics to prove, have run it for last 5 years awesome fun with it, it’s a must drive it to take it in, guaranteed drive and buy, it’s due engine service and trans oil change, OZ 20 inch wheels on it and the original set in near knew condition, will come with it , £18000 will buy it, I picked it up at 20k and never once launched it it a hate of mine, if you respect it it will look after you 👍
scope bank 2 and 1 and crank save fitting parts be a lot quicker also it will check your wiring and at the same time make sure the reference voltage is correct
My Audi A5 (B8, 2011) had a Banner battery from the factory. I think the Banner battery is a valid alternative for this car if it has the proper specs and has been coded properly. Banner also has an official BEM manufactory code from VAG.
@@ACERASPIRE1 Experience has taught me otherwise. ECU replaced when it was actually a contaminated MAF. Gas tank taken out and fuel pump replaced for a vacuum leak. Solenoid replaced for a fuel tank pressure leak when it's actually a gas cap. These shops got to meet the bottom line. That's the whole reason most ASE certified literature will warn techs not to hand the vehicles back to customers without the monitors run as it's basically dishonest and gives the customer the impression that the vehicles are fixed when they aren't; It's either greed, incompetence or just not reading their shop guides.
@@mightymulatto3000 I was pointing your comment about ethics and swapping parts. In this case, those part swaps were unneccessary. I guess they did what they did with good intentions, but still waste of customers money.
Classic fucking Audi workshops. Sorry for the cursing. But come to Denmark and pretty much every god damn VW/AUDI/SEAT workshop is full of people with zero knowledge of wtf they are doing. Cant belive Audi told him it needs a new engine. Talk about a mechanic who needs to get fired on the spot. Headless chickens. GG you guys. Great video 🙏🏻❤️
Something tells me, that the Audi main dealership technicians couldn't be bothered running through all the diagnostic tests that you're doing, and the easiest option for them, was fitting a new engine, at the customers expense of course.
I bet audi saw the car had a tune on it and washed there hands of it.Dealerships can really be funny about ecu mods, possibly putting them off properly investigating the problem.
Hi. You’ve a great platform here. I watch all your videos and you and your friend in the workshop are unique and rare to find as genuine , fantastic mechanics. What happened about the defective engine from this Audi ? Are you following it up ? Thanks for sharing all your videos. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
Really loved this Porsche developed engine and sad to hear this car’s situation. Can’t wait to see next video. Probably, a valve spring might be broke n
Diag work?? Throwing parts at it? 🤣 Crank sensor needed? Nope. Cam sensor needed? Nope. Set of plugs? Nope… As a main dealer tech of 19 years this shit depresses me.
Funny the guy has this issue, I had a similar issue with my B9 2018 Audi S4 it was infact the relay under the passenger door sil - it was fully burnt out was sort of an "ECU" problem. Check there it maybe that sounds very very similar to the issue I had.
Super videa, jste moc šikovní, Anglánům závidím, že vás tam mají. Mechaniku jako vy je nedostatek. Jinak mám RS5 4.2 55k km a předešlé video s výměnou rozvodu na staré rs5 mě celkem postrašilo😄👍🏻
@@VAGTechnic it should be possible to scope all signals and diagnose within the hour, no parts required. You even have two banks to work with, simplifying the diagnosis. Look forward to the next video
@@sdgelectronics if the engine is not running I can’t check it , if the engine was running the sensor was unplugged so can’t check it , but it was reading correctly on the end but incorrect position 😂 and the timing was out physically 😏 so very interesting fault
@@VAGTechnic No need for engine running, so long as the ignition is on they have the 12 or 5V reference so the output would be valid. If the sensors are dynamic, you can check either while cranking or by turning over by hand. This would show timing correlation.
Could I ask why aren't you using an oscilloscope and scoping the cam and crank signals and taking a look at the comparisons between left and right banks?
I bet it's an exhaust cam rocker that has packed up and fallen off the lobe/valve ...kj, I watched the next video before this one. If only life worked this way where someone can tell you exactly where the fault is. btw, would the coolant 'injection' into the engine have anything to do with the failed rocker arm? causing the engine to hydraulic excessively? Great content btw!
“I don’t know how they’ve tried to diagnose the car”. I think you’ve hit on something there. I’m guessing the conversation went something like this: “Boss, we don’t know what’s wrong with the car, its cranking, but it won’t start” “Well, have you changed the oil and filters and given it a clean and vacuumed out the trunk? “ “Yes?” “And it’s still not working?” “No boss” “Is it under warranty” “No boss” “Just tell the customer we need to replace the engine!” Most people who work in these main dealers have little beyond basic service knowledge.
Hi sir. I have audi q7 3.0tfsi. 2012 I have problem with black smok exit from exhust.when i use my car inside city only .. or when make engine high tempretur. Just inside city. I replace plug and injacter and supercharge and mabsensor and oxjen sensor .... And when i read it by computer no code recorde .. but stay same problem .. do you have any idea about it. Thank you sir.
@@VAGTechnic all of the things you didn't need to replace and a relative compression test. A scope would have saved you a lot in terms of time, guessing and unnecessary replacement parts
Ivan from Pine Hollow diagnostics would have had a scope on this in the first half hour, relative compression off the starter current and cam-crank correlation with a pressure transducer in cylinder 1
Výborne chalani zo záhoria,páči sa mi ako tym anglánom ukazujete ako sa operuju tie dojče vagen..(: Ibaže nie mate ten volant na druhej stranie? (: Zdravím z ostravska.
i put my car on ramp for 2 months to work on exhaust pipes, car was ok with no issue, after 2 months, on first drive it fall into limp mode in the middle of driving, tried to reset 1 million fail codes but nothing, then i disconnected battery cable and everything were good, no codes car drives, and that happened few times in other drives, i tried to disconnect all electrical plugs and clean with contact spray and problem was solved, no more limp mode, so car must not stay on place it must be used
Typical dealer diagnostics, 'needs the most expensive repair we can think of'. Even a trainee could see that didn't need a new engine just by looking at the oil and doing a compression test, also the fact it wasn't even trying to fire pointed to sensors or the ECU. Good methodical diagnostics here finding actual problem quickly and more importantly for the owner cheaply.
Funny thing that rocker arm wouldn’t prevent the non start it’s only the fact it damaged the camshaft pickup wheel that caused it not to start otherwise should of just had a misfire. Cause and effect what a nightmare
Was wondering why Audi weren’t offering some sort of good will gesture towards the repair as an engine shouldn’t require replacement at 47k, thrn you said he had a tuning box on it. Doh! !!!!!
Excellent contents my friend. i just ... am American muscle guy and i just wonder, if you removed some sensors and the engine finally started...why removing the whole engine?! i mean it run and i dont see any check engine on the dashboard!...but hey! this is Audi. fuck the sensors 😄😂
