Dans le cadre du 3ème Festival jazz d' Antibes Juan-les-Pins en 1962, au Palais des Sports, les CLARA WARD SINGERS chantent "Come in the Room". Elles sont accompagnées d'un organiste.
Now is the time to bring the story of Clara Ward and The Ward Singers to the Big Screen. When you enjoy The Supremes, Destiny ‘s Child, Martha and The Vandellas, The Clark Sisters, Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, MARY MARY, FANTASIA etc - WE are witnessing Clara Ward’s footprints of influence on all the female and male singing groups - ecumenical and secular. NO OTHER PERFORMING FEMALE GROUP HAS EVER ACHIEVED THEIR UNPARALLELED SUCCESS AND STARDOM. THEIR VOICES-THEIR PHYSICAL BEAUTY-THEIR INTELLIGENCE- THEIR POISE-THEIR SHOWMANSHIP-THEIR POWERFUL DEVOTION TO WORSHIP. DEMAND THEIR STORY BE TOLD -A STORY BEGINNING IN PHILADELPHIA, PA IN THE 1930’s.
She had a beautiful voice I love these videos I wish she could have lived as long Shirley Ceasar and the ones that are living now she would've been Queen Clara!!! 💘❤❤❤
Very unusual to see all these white people sitting like they want to hear these "colored people" (as we were called then) sing. I am greatly surprised, assuming this is the real audience for the Ward singers as this video would have us believe. If this is real, it is very surprising to me considering the racial climate of 1950 and 1960.
you bring up a great point. But remember this is taking place in Europe, where a lot of black, especially gospel artists could have an easier time performing in shows and festivals. And even back in the States, the Wards and others were performing for all-white audiences at Copacabana and the MET and the like...while having to use the back entrance to move in and out. A strange, strange time
They have always studied what ever Black people create. Than they introduce people like Elvis appropriating Black people music and laughingly refer to him as a king . We all should know by now that Sister Rosetta Tharpe created Rock and Roll. Playing that guitar like no man or woman could before her time or even after she passed. imitate her. But Black men and white men tried to copy her alike. Chuck Berry imitated her style by duck walking across the stage. But poor Elvis studied and tried to copy Black people style but he failed miserably.
