Yorubas don't hate the Benins, and are happily moving on to ward the future. I suggest the Benins should do the same. Well you ARE fighting and you did fight in the past. This is the story according to the ESAN who are brothers of the igbo. The migrations of igbo people away from Idu(what you call edo) tells us that it is true. Oranmiyan was a warrior who impregnated an igodomigodo woman. That is where Eweka the first came from and hence the reign of the obas. Oranmiyan had been trying to capture the actual city for years but couldn’t but slowly through impregnation yoruba-Idu children kept being born, this was due to many yoruba warriors whom married the women of Idu. Hence igbo, ijaw etc, families escaped hence the creation of the anioma igbo. They soon when they were older created internal pressure. In order to relieve this, the land was split into two and the real royal family, the ogiamen had the Utantan whilst Eweka got the other half. There are two Oduduwas in Yoruba history but people refer to the one that migrated as both according to what I have gathered. One thing is certain, the title of Oba now used in Benin is from Yoruba language. The meaning of Oba in Yoruba language is like supreme head/leader or an emperor.

Oduduwa a foreigner united the yoruba tribes and created a kingdom. He had one son who had several children. One of the grandsons obalufon became ooni of ife after him, his last grandson oranmiyan became oba of benin and left his son eweka there, oranmiyan also became first alaafin of oyo and left his son ajaka there. He then proceeded to be ooni of ife and when he died obalufon son ascended the throne and his descendants are still ruling there so the oba of benin and alaafin of oyo are in a sense junior brothers/kinsmen to ooni of ife. Published 1832, Pages 180-181. Furthermore, Ade Obayemi also recalls this indigenous classical tradition in Ajayi’s & Crowder’s “History of West Africa”. He notes to the tiniest details as follows: “Oodua had his first home (“at least his first earthly one”) on the Oke Ora (Ora Hill) between Ile-Ife [the Ife bowl] and Ilesa.” A. Obayemi, “The Yoruba-Speaking Peoples to 1600” IN A. Ajayi & M. Crowder (Ed’s.) “History in West Africa, Vol. 1, London 1976, p. 210. It is very obvious that because of politics of superiority and uniqueness, what all have always known to be that Oranmiyan, a Prince from ILE-IFE founded benin which egharevba had earlier penned down and which a lot of europeans collected from benin itself was subverted and changed in the 1970s. Moreover you need to explain why in Ile-Ubinu, Ugie Oduduwa is celebrated and known not ugie Izoduwa or ugie Ekaladerhan. To Conclude, Traditions state his human existence (oduduwa) began at oke ora hill settlement in Iloromu quarters east of the main Ile-Ife settlements and part of the larger Ife. and then to ife where he wrestled power and united ife from a confederacy to one of the first kingdoms in the area and this system was later exported via many prince's and hunters when ife started expanding this includes the Oranmiyan who was sent to restore order and found the new Benin kingdom with the same monarchial system from ife into the area... The rest of the story is well known ile ubinu, eweka(owomika, yoruba words which Prince Eweka first spoke when he regained his speech) The many Yoruba words and influence in Benin traditons meanwhile we see nothing of such vice versa in Ile-ife.

So many legends, histories and stories. Anyway all I know, the Yorubas did not come from Benin. But Oranmiyan was a junior brother to the Oba of Benin. The Oba of Benin actually saved his life when Oranmiyan suppose to be sacrifice at Ile-ife. He ran to Benin to his senior brother who protected him. He grew up in Benin and later left Benin to found Oyo. If anyone really want to know where the yorubas came from, then go Knossos in Greece. I hope it will be on our screen one day the whole History of the Yorubas.
Patrissia Odimba you are very wrong. Oranyan was a king in Benin. He is the father of Eweka Oba of Benin in 1400AD. Oranyan was the first Yoruba man to rule Benin and Benin Royal family is from his lineage till date.
