Eskor Toyo, Nigerian Labor Organizer and a Professor of Economics at the University of Calabar, was also an Ekpe initiate who loved the wisdom embedded in the songs. In January 2011 Miller joined Toyo when he visited his community, Oron, to inform them of the impact of Ékpè in Cuba through the Abakuá society. At Oron Beach on the Cross River, the local Clan head invited them for an impromptu Ékpè meeting. The Clan Head instructs his assistant to pour libation, evoking the ancestors and the spirits of the river, asking for good fortune and blessings. The Clan Head mentions his desire to travel to Cuba to learn about the Ékpè there. The others start to sing songs for the Nyamkpe grade.
