Fun fact: when I was looking for a relicanth to do the regi quest in my emerald save as a kid, it took me forever to find one. First one I came across had a blue body, which I thought was weird so I caught it, and it became my first shiny ever.

I remember the first time I caught the Regi trio; I traded them to a friend, who then reset their game with my Regis still in there. Needless to say I did not talk to that friend again.

Deciphering Braille and trying to find out where they spawned was amazing for my 7 year old self, i hope they make it harder in sword and shield.

Dude when I was a kid I remember having to go to my local library and pick up a book on braille just to figure out this puzzle. It felt like an absolute epic adventure

I love the Regi trio. They’re so beautifully weird and out of place. Like you have you typical animal-style Pokémon…and then you have these completely weird, almost otherworldly creatures. The references you made to Indiana Jones were accurate, because it really did feel like you were hunting these elusive creatures. And it felt so cool.

The Regis are my favorite legendary trio due to finding the cave after reading a book that talk a bit about Braille from the library. I remember being like,” I’ve seen this before” and then going to my library to rent out the book. It was the most badass experience I ever had in Pokémon, as I was researching and deciphering to obtain the Regis all across the region. Some good time 😌

I figured this out in the 4th grade on accident cause my sister had this dictionary with braile in it. I remember first seeing the braile in the dictionary was like a revelation.. I immediately knew that had to be what it was. And the moment when that 1st cave opened felt so scary and insane. I was like NO WAY. Games today don't have the same mystery to them. Internet just makes everything so boring now lol

I had the Pokemon Emerald guidebook to show me how to get these guys when I was a kid, but even so the process of getting them was still so cool and unique. To this day they're still my favourite legendary trio.

I remember a friend and I figured this all out bit by bit, translating the braille and contacting each other whenever we made a breakthrough. Probably the best experiance in pokemon I have had.

The regis are by far my favourite legendaries in the entire franchise. They have an air of mystery about them that exemplifies what pokemon is supposed to be for me.

I always ran my hands against walls and doors as a kid and discovered Braille a while before I played this game. When I first found out about the puzzles requiring Braille I felt like I was digging into a secret vault. Especially with the cave song that plays while you translate and the regi song being completely original in the game and completely optional. I just love stuff like that

In elementary school we had a special day where a couple of blind people visited our class and showed and taught us how they did everyday things. We also got a small paper on which the braille was translated into the alphabet which I took home and saved for a long time. Fast forward a couple years, me and my friends are aged about 7 years or so and we are playing Pokémon at my house, we did not have internet at my house but we did figure out it was braille. So my mom grabbed the little piece of paper we had still saved and translated every letter of every puzzle for us and then also translate it from English to Dutch. It was one of the coolest things ever to solve these puzzles and my mom was such a sweetheart for doing all that translating for us.

I still remember exactly where I was when I learned about the Regis' existence. I've forgotten so many things about my childhood, but for some reason that specific memory stuck with me.

I remember vividly back in the days where I stumbled upon the underwater cave by pure happenstance. I got the pleasure of solving the puzzle back then, feel so lucky to have had that experience

The reason regice is the best regi there is because you will enter the room, then stop to look up braille or just the solution and come back to find it opened itself

I went to the library and looked up how to read braille when I found the regis. I didn't have internet access back then. I loved it.

I cannot tell you how exciting it was to learn about the regis. To find them and find the pokemon to get them. It was like hearing about a legendary treasure and setting out to do some insane quest that doesn't make sense to find them

this made me feel like a real treasure hunter as a kid, I explored the entire game head to toe and found that place, and was like Holy FUCK what did I find??? I tore my house apart looking for a children's encyclopedia that my mom had because I remembered seeing a braille translation in it. me and my sister spend days translating all the rocks. We had a bit of trouble with what pokemon we were supposed to have, I figured out one, but the wailord was a hard one to pin down, so I think we had to look that up. Then when it came to finding where the actual pokemon were, I remembered the strange rock formations that I had come across through the game, and it all clicked at once where they were. It was set up so well, and felt so rewarding to have captured them. I really wish pokemon would do some more things like this, because it was this type of feeling, the feeling of discovering more then you ever expected, that made the post game of older pokemon games so good. I miss it.

I had the strategy guide and there was this braille chart right at the end of the book. Using that to figure out the steps was such a challenge! I remember decoding it and had it on little scraps of paper. I really wish they'd do more crazy quests like this in game!

No wonder my brother spent more than 500 hours on this game back then trying to figure out how to get them. I remember him explaining to me the full steps and i was like "bruhhh, this shit is serious"

I was lucky enough to have the Ruby and Sapphire guidebook when I was younger, and they actually had braille translations once they got around to the Regis. Piecing everything together to get them was so much fun

This puzzle is one of the highlights in the Pokemon series for me - it felt like an actual mystery and quest, my young self was so obsessed with solving it. Too bad nowadays, even if something similar does happen, the advent of the Internet usually sucks out and mystique..

I remember playing emerald when I was seven and getting to the cave where Registeel was and being VERY confused. Luckily I had some older cousins who explained what was going on to me but didn't give me the exact answers. Instead they printed out a brail to English chart and had me figure it out, giving me help if I got particularly stuck. Looking back on it, I'm glad that's how they did it instead of just giving me the answers.

I figured out the entire Regi puzzle in gen 3 without access to the internet as a 13-year old. It really wasn't that hard to do because I had the habit of reading game manuals whenever I used the bathroom so I stumbled upon the braille by accident 😄 I also played through Morrowind at the time, which was more complex than everything Pokemon could ever throw at you. Back then games were just built different. Catching the Regis was one of the most rewarding achievements of my early years as a gamer.

Funnily enough, I managed to solve the braille puzzle... because the instruction manual that came with the game had a braille alphabet at the end, which I found extremely odd and what made me keep it instead of throwing it away as usual...

It's so cool that this puzzle was in the game. It's really interesting to have a kid learn or be exposed to brail, use moves in quirky ways, and have these areas locked behind postgame. Pacifilog town isn't even required and many may go through their entire playthough and never see it.

I swear if they actually make us learn or use Wingdings for Regieleki and Regidrago.😅

I had one of those massive strategy guides for Emerald and it didn't even have a guide for them. I spent half of my childhood thinking that those caves and braille puzzles must've just been things they didn't finish in development. I was so fascinated by all the stuff I missed and Japan-only things when I got my own internet for the first time.

As a kid the braille puzzles were fun the figure out, it was getting the Wailord that stopped me lol

It damn sure made you feel like you earned the right to fight them if you found them. Now there are so many that they can't design new regions with the intent of placing one of them at the end of an area save for a few. Then we get Ramanas park or Ultra Space to handle them all through 1 mechanic. It saps some of the excitement and adventure of their appearance. Or worse, they are giveaways.

These were always my favorite legendaries. Not a long dungeon with lots of random high level spawns. Not an exclusive promo. They were a puzzle that didnt care what level you were. They werent a distribution that was so limited that you statistically used a glitxh or a gameshark. It was the perfect way of making you feel like you EARNED these pokemon.
