Four forts were built in Świnoujście, three of them have survived to this day. What is their history, what did they look like, what can you see today?
Świnoujście Fortress (Festung Swinemunde) is a Prussian complex of fortifications defending the port of Świnoujście and access to the Szczecin Lagoon, which was erected in the mid-19th century. The fortress consisted of four forts, of which three have survived to our times. These are: Angel's Fort, Gerhard's Fort and Western Fort.
In our story, we look into all the existing forts of the Świnoujście Fortress. We show posterns (underground corridors), look into casemates and present many historical photos. Attention! We also talk about a non-existent fort, the so-called "Harbour Fortress" and we show it in historical photos.
Topics:
00:00 Introduction and introduction
02:41 Werk 1 - Harbour Fort
05:00 Werk 3 - Angel's Fort
07:08 Werk 4 - West Fort
11:00 Werk 2 - Gerhard's Fort
The film: "ŚWINOUJSCIE - ANGEL'S FORT, GERHARD'S FORT AND WESTERN FORT" does not exhaust the whole topic. We were lucky to visit them all. Today, Fort Gerharda is inaccessible due to land access blockade, which is associated with an attempt to protect the gas terminal built nearby. It can be visited only occasionally, reaching the fort by water.
We keep our fingers crossed that unlimited access to this fort and the lighthouse in Świnoujście will be possible as soon as possible!
