Škoda Fabia Mk2 5J Electric Window Switch Teardown and Repair 

Well done mate, worked a treat. I used an old toothbrush and some vodka. Cleaned up the silicone area, dried it off quickly. Remember not to rehouse everything straight away. Just get the switch assembled, reconnect it to the electrical system and just check the windows will go up and down.

Many thanks for putting this video up. I found that it is not strictly necessary to remove the door trim parts; by using a flat rounded lever I was able to lever the switch out using that alone (and it didn't mark the surrounding trim). I used a tool that I originally bought for removing watch casings, it is perfect for this too. Switch took less than 5 minutes to change - a real result!

Nice one. Cheers for taking the time to make this tutorial clip. My wife had the same problem with the front windows on her fabia. I watched your video, scribbled down some notes,...and followed exactly what you did. Guess what....?? It worked..!! The twin master switch was faulty, and so was the single switch on the passenger door. I used nail varnish remover to clean the contacts cos its May bank holiday and that's all I had available to me. I really appreciate your time and effort in sharing this excellent quick fix.

Just want to say I had the same problem because I left the drivers side window open last week. Thanks to your tutorial I bought a new switch on EBay for £14.50 and fitted it in ten minutes this morning. Thanks again.

thanks for this. i replaced mine in a fabia mk1 but the cheap new one doesn't operate in two-way switch mode, even though it has a two-way switch feel to it. it also seems like it is the masterswitch to the pax side switch, as that one isn't replaced but now also not two-way anymore. might be the cheap (€15) replacement doesn't have the logic. So i'll try and follow your instrcutions to clean/repair the original one.

I found it wasn't necessary to remove the door handle part as I just levered up the switch & it popped out nicely. This was on a Roomster, but I'm sure they're the same.

I have the same issue with a 2010 Fabia. I can hear a metallic rattle in the door but that must be something else. Will have to give it a go, thanks.

I just tried this myself but could not stand the idea of jamming a screwdriver to remove the actuator from the plastic part and potentially damaging the plastic, which I am not really able to find easily in my area. Thus, I tried to slide 4 toothpicks in between the two plastic knobs on each corner of the actuator, distancing the actuator from the plastic housing. After that, I firmly pressed down on the window open/close buttons, until the actuator was ejected out of the housing, admittedly with high velocity. The plastic housing had 0 damage on it. I did do this on a warm day, so the plastic was kind of soft, so it had a little give. Put in a new switch, works like new.

Did my 2004 Polo 9n switch. Different internals but used toothpaste to clean off the burning damage and polish the contact surface as contact cleaner was no very effective. Now works fine. :)

Hi, i also have a fabia (2011) qnd now the window has his own life (goes up and down) if i do the window all the way down it comes right up, you think this is the same problem?
