In your discussion around the 9 mins 30 secs point of your really interesting video you make a really valuable point that took me back to many years ago when I was working in the Accident and Emergency Department in our local hospital. The ambulance service had just started advanced life support which included electrical heart monitoring. One new Paramedic came into the Resuscitation Room with a cardiac patient and enthusiastically showed the Consultant 'reams' of paper recordings of the heart activity from the patient en-route to hospital. The Consultant, having endured the Paramedics 'excitement' about what he had gleaned from the paper trail, turned to the Paramedic and said, 'but have you looked at the patient?' So you are absolutely correct, all the gizmo's in the world can 'advise' you, but you need to balance that with what you see and hear, and what you would expect, or prefer to observe. A little 'off track' with my story but thought that parallels are often all around us.
Can I sk where you got the scraper tool? Also are you scraping across the whole width of the reed or just the middle and hpw far from the tip? These videos are excellent. I'm inspired to try repairing an impulse buy which turned out to be very out of tune and with dodgy valves. Hopefully I'll not make it worse!😮
Thanks Rich - I am currently trying to tune the tremolo reeds on my accordion - the reeds have been much tuned before and the tremolo is very sharp like your carmen I am scared to take too much off the reeds to flatten them - is that a legitimate concern?
Hello Yes - if you need to flatten a reed a lot then you will end up removing a significant amount of metal from it - this could affect how the reed sounds
