I'm going to say that the negative comments for the most part are from people who have never either A. Owned a cat or B. Trained a cat. Unlike many animals you cannot get them to put on a performance and do tricks by any sort of abuse. The only way to do it is through positive reinforcement (treats). You can't punish them in any way. I had a cat trained many years ago to do all sorts of tricks and he was a great leash walker too. These animals' body language says excited and alert and TREAT.

Impressive! Cats are very hard to train and these felines were obviously given extensive training that probably took many years. You can see how receptive they are to their trainers. They know what to do and are aware of the rewards they'll get for a job well done. Hats off to these two! They care deeply for their cats. :)

I think I saw this at the circus in Moscow about 10 years ago. It was fantastic! It made up for a lot of things I didn't care for. I'm sure these cat were trained with lots of food and other positive reinforcement.

For anyone saying this is animal cruelty, from what im seeing, they are being threated with respect and cats look like theyre enjoying the show too! their body language looked to me, excited to do some action! They also look healthy! I say, instead of them to be at home just getting fat and not doing a thing, being part of this show can be beneficial for them! =D

I'm sorry, all the people saying they're "mistreated" either know nothing about cats, or have never had to deal with one that's pissed off. You can't beat/neglect a cat into obedience. These kitties live for delicious noms and attention.

It's very hard to train cats. If you look closely you can see the cats eating during several parts of the show.

Well, internet. This is it. We've seen it all. We can finally all go outside, start living our lives like we promised ourselves we would!

It just dawned on me why most of the cats are white...all white cats are often profoundly deaf from birth. The trainers are using visual and touch cues, and the cats probably can't hear all the music and crowd noise, which is why they are so calm and focused. Cat trainers will usually watch the cat to see what it does naturally, and then give it treats to do it again...and again. I did this with my cat...she decided to sit up and beg, like a dog, once, and I started giving her a command and a treat to do it again. Now she does "pretty please" with all enthusiasm, because she knows she'll get a treat for it. It was *her* idea at first. No mistreatment there. (The ones that run off stage at the end are probably "in training". They are being accustomed to the ring and audience, and allowed to "run away" to safety, which would be their natural first instinct. Once one gets used to it well enough to stop for a minute, out of curiosity, the trainers will know it is ready for further training.)

If you pay attention, you can see that the girl actually gives the cats back to the person behind stage, which implies that they keep swapping out different cats.

Abuse? The body language of these cats sure doesn't show that. Tails up, ears pointed forward, excited and attentive. They also look very well fed. Cats like different things. They may even have try outs for cats that seem more into it. One of my cats loves to be chased down hallways. It's her favorite game. My other cat, not so much. These cats seem pretty happy. I wouldn't call it abuse.

i agree with you, but considering the homeless and suffering cats around the world, if they can be adopted and trained humanely to do stuff like this and raise appreciation, maybe it can be a good thing.

To train a cat to do tricks takes a lot of time to build trust between the person and animal, cats by nature can be very skittish. any form of abuse wouldn't work on a house cat since there natural reaction is to run or flee form abuse. many times animals have shown with the right amount of love and trust animals can perform a lot of interesting tricks but its getting past the trust level and a lot of positive reinforcement to do a trick.

Jeez, even the cats in Russia are gymnasts.

BS I've had cats most of my life, and I can tell you that even if you leave food out for them all the time, giving them no reason to be hungry, it's not hard at all to get them interested in treats. Even if you just fed your cat you'll find that they become -incredibly- motivated if, say, a can of tuna comes out.

cats do not respond to punishment based training. they only respond to positive reinforcement its the only way you can teach them. not to mention their tales looked like they were pretty happy.

he said injured. Cats often survive very high drops because they get themselves in to a good position in the air, and have a non-fatal terminal velocity, they are often injured though. Most suffer much more severe injury's from lower heights, 30ft and bellow generally because they don't have time to get in a safe position.

Yes and No. My suspicion is is that those cats were severely starved before the show in order to coax them out of such a performance. Then again I am incredibly stoned and these cats are amazing.

I wasnt talking about the beam, i was talking about that pole in the end that is lifted up around 15 ft in the air or more. Also, ive never heard of a cat falling 30 feet without being at least injured.
