i can dice a tomato in about 30 seconds with the technique shown in the video. I can probably do it quicker if i got a sharp knife and cut the tomato in half before fully dicing it
I have a Santoku knife that's sharp enough to shave with. I keep all my knives sharp using a honing steel each time after washing, but that one is by far the sharpest...
You can still do the same basic motions; you've just gotta hold the thing together more & maybe do more of a slicing motion with the knife instead of pushing it straight down as much.

Good instruction. I am making Julia Child's Tomato Sauce from scratch with organic tomatos (expensive) and I was turning them into mush. I'm glad I bothered to look this up. My second set of tomato dicing turned out much better!

Couldn't agree more! Was just corrected by a "chef" that I work with that I wasn't doing it right..I had a sharp knife, and a firm tomato, and they were small diced. It works, and I'm tired of people trying to put down other people in the kitchen! If it works, don't fix it!

Thank you for the video! You forgot to instruct people to leave the stem side on to help keep the tomato together as you're cutting and dicing, and then cut a thin slice off the other side before starting the procedure you showed.

Why-why-why does he scrape the knive's edge 15 (fifteen!) times against the cutting board during just this one single tomato? That is a very efficient way to get a dull knife in short time. Instead, twist the knife upside-down and scrape the cuttings with the back of the blade.

Since I saw this video i've been trying cut tomatoes exactly the same way but every time i try to do so it goes all wrong when i try to cut it all into little squared cubes

my good friend loved tomatoes, ate them like an apple, this is a pretty good looking uniformly red tomato (some slightly light places, but not like I've seen
